USATF Development Funding Policies for CanAm 98

I have confirmed the following policies for USATF Development Committee funding for athletes participating in the CanAm High Performance Circuit. Short version is if you plan to participate in the circuit, go ahead and make your plans now. Call the contact listed below for your event group to indicate your interest in being considered for funding. Most decisions will be made at the USATF Outdoor Champs:

WOMEN'S 800, 1500, 5000, & 10,000
Contact: Teri Jordan, 814-863-3146
Policy: Top three athletes per event (ie, 3 in 800, 3 in 1500, 3 in 5000, and 3 in 10,000 for 12 total) will be offerred opportunity to compete in Europe [ie, $1000 reimbursement towards ticket to Europe]. Next three athletes per event will be offered opportunity to participate in CanAm Circuit [ie,$300 towards expenses].
Criteria: Performance at USATF Outdoor Champs and '98 performance rank-order list. Terry Crawford, Tom Fleming, and Peter Tegan will make decisions at the USATF outdoor meet.

MEN'S 800 & 1500

Policy: 10 total athletes will be selected to receive $300 each.
Criteria: Performance at NCAA Champs, USATF Outdoor Champs, & performance rank-order list. Some decisions will be made immediately, others will be made at NCAA and USATF champs.

MEN'S 3000SC, 5000, & 10,000
Contact: Kelly Sullivan, 503-391-8922
Policy: Approximately 12 total athletes will be selected to receive $300 each.
Criteria: Performance at USATF Outdoor Champs and participation in the CanAm Circuit. Kelly Sullivan, Chick Hislop, and Ron Mann will make decisions at the USATF Champs. Additional athletes _may_ receive retroactive funding during or after the circuit based on performance during the circuit.
