Former prep and collegiate standout Tom Lewis just completed his second year as an assistant at Long Beach. Lewis began his coaching career two years ago, when he joined Morgans staff. His individual responsibilities include recruiting and individual player development. Lewis is best known for the outstanding career he enjoyed at Mater Dei HS in Santa Ana CA. As a senior in 1984-85, he led the Monarachs to a 29-0 record, averaging 32.0ppg and 11.6rpg. He was a three time all CIF selection, and two time prep all-America, as well as a two time Angelus league MVP. HE finished his career at Mater Dei with 2,456 points and 1,174 rebounds. After high school, Lewis moved on to a two stop collegiate career at USC and Pepperdine, where he earned his BS in organizational communication in 1990. As a Freshman at USC, he scored 475 points on the way to being named to the PAC-10 all Freshman team in 1986. His scoring average of 17.5ppg led all Freshman in the nation. Lewis transfered to Pepperdine for the remainder of his collegiate career, leading the Waves to two NIT appearances. As a sophomore he averaged 22.9ppg, as a Junior 16.2ppg, and as a senior was second in scoring behind current NBA player Doug Christie. He received numerous all-America honorable mention honors. After a year of pro ball in Portugal, Lewis returned to Mater Dei as an assistant coach, and the Monarchs compiled a 105-4 record during his tenure before he moved on to the Beach. |
