BEACH HOOP Recruiting News II

April 1998 Signing Period Commentary

The signing of Allan Gomez from East LA College does not exactly send chills down the spine of any BW opponents, this is for certain. The lack of recruiting news for the BEACH up to this point must mean that something big must be (better be?) on tap for the close of the Spring recruiting period which is May 15th.

The teams glaring needs are obvious, a back-up/starting point guard (someone to challenge Charles O'Neal, unless Ardis Curtis develops a J that's consistant from 18'+), depth in the paint, and a proven explosive go-to guy who can hit the outside shot.

We'd better hope that Gomez is that type of explosive scorer. The loss of JaQuay Wells (6'0" PG from Compton)to Colorado was a huge blow to the PG position. Caleb Gervin (6'0" PG Cathedral City, I believe he is the nephew of George Gervin)is still available and was even at Cal St. Fullerton over the past weekend. Why in the hell is he visiting Fullerton and not the Beach??? The Beach has everything that Fullerton has plus, plus, plus.

The addition of Gomez to the 98-99 roster completes Morgans list of 14 players, pending any transfers or academic casualties, which is likely to happen. I haven't heard what Coach Morgan is up to and there is virtually no news floating around the net or in any of the local fishwraps. Stay tuned.. 1
