This is my feelings on what's going down on both WCW and WWF. The opinions on this page do not represent the overall feelings here at The Downward Spiral page. And if your not down with that I got 2 words for ya get out!!!

- WCW -

I was extremely excited to see that the nWo had reformed when I was watching Nitro a few weeks back. And I was even happier to find out that they were gonna be full fledged heels. WCW needed a strong group of heels and they definetly have that in the new nWo. With Russo and Ferrera pulling off a major "swerve" on all of the internet "insiders" it was a pleasant surprise last week when Big Poppa Pump fooled lots of people when he joined the nWo. I think that this new nWo will be able to carry WCW while stars such as Sting and Goldberg nurse injuries and set up some great fueds for the future.

Here are some injury updates as they have become available: Goldberg - Torn tendons in his arm. Out up to 8 weeks.
Scott Hall - A knee injury that requires surgery. Is currently because of a suspension and it appears Hall is delaying surgery to see if his knee heels on its own.
Sting - Has a shoulder injury. Out for another 2-3 weeks.
Rey Mysterio Jr. - Had successful knee surgery about a month ago and is still expected to be rehabbing for another couple of months.
Shane Douglas - Rehabbing his injured elbow. Expected back as soon as January 17th Nitro.

I was a little miffed as to why WCW chose hardcore legend Terry Funk as the new comissioner. But the latest word is that at the next PPV there is going to be a hardcore match between Nash and Funk for the commish. position. I was glad to see Arn Anderson back on WCW tv this week. Hopefully Russo and Ferrara will bring back Flair asap too.

It appears that the reason that Savage has not been on WCW tv is because under his current contract he has maxed out his paid appearances so he won't be back until he signs a contract extension. And it appears he will because the WWF has expressed little to no interest in Savage, so I expect him and Gorgeous George to be back on WCW tv in the next month or so.

A Hogan update for all you Hogan fans out there. Initially he was supposed to make a return in Jan. or Feb. but now it appears as if it will be pushed back again until Russo can find an appropriate storyline for Hogan. There's a rumor that Bischoff has contacted Bill Busch with the proposal of him becoming Hogan's manager. Russo and Busch have both denied contact and stated that Bischoff is still on a permanent leave of absence from WCW.

Lastly it appears that WCW has signed Shawn Stasiak to a contract and he may make an appearance on WCW tv soon. It's rumored that he may have Spice become his valet to feud with Madusa.

- WWF -

I have to give the WWF credit, even with defections of their 2 main bookers, their top superstar on the shelf, another superstar "retiring" and their sponsors threatening to pull their sponsorship deals, they are still very popular and continue to dominate in the ratings war each and every week. The WWF has continued to put out high quality sports entertainment programs each and every week. I think that a lot of the credit goes to Vince McMahon and also to all the wrestlers who continue to put on some great shows.

Now on the other hand I do have a problem with the WWF's main storyline. Is this weekly saga that envolves the McMahon-Helmsley era really have that much to do with wrestling. Especially this week with their advent of "Have a Bad Day." I would still like to see the WWF get back to main story lines that actually focus on wrestling and not on soap opera like circumstances. I eventually forsee that Vince, Shane and Linda will step up and put an end to the McMahon-Helmsley era.

The latest word that I have heard concerning the Undertaker's return is that it will most likely occur after the Royal Rumble. He is completely healed from his groin injury and the bookers are waiting to put him into a big story line.
As for another injured WWF superstar it appears as if Ken Shamrock has medical clearance to return to the ring anytime now and the bookers are looking for an appropriate spot to put him in as well.
And as for the debut of Tazz. There have been differing reports I have heard that he may make his debut as soon at the Royal Rumble entered in the tournament where he will clear the ring before getting eliminated himself. Another scenario is that the WWF may wait till the next night or on Smackdown to debut Tazz. It's also not certain whether he'll come in as a heel or as a face but with DX getting good heel heat it may make sense to bring him in as a face to oppose DX. When and whatever he comes in as it is sure to be one of the greatest debuts ever.

The WWF is supposedly very happy with the Big Show and his recent title reign. Since he gained the title he was able to genreate great crowd response and worked especially hard in the ring. He was supposed to drop the title sooner but the bookers were so impressed that he kept it for a couple weeks longer than originally anticipated. He also is reportedly down to around 410 pounds and has much better mobility in the ring (something the WWF worried about when he first came to Titan Towers).

Lastly I just want to make a plea to the bookers at the WWF to give Kane another world title run. Right now he generates a great crowd pop and giving him a shot to run with the belt for awhile only makes sense. He has defeated all of the top superstars in the WWF and continues to do the job when asked i.e. Big Show two weeks ago, Kurt Angle this week. I think that he deserves atleast that much for being screwed out of it atleast 5 times in the past six months. Give the Big Red Machine a chance with a decent story line and I gurantee he won't disappoint.
