(Week 4) No Fehr Poll of the Week: Who will be the steal of the No Fehr reserve draft?
- Mark Leiter (Purple Starfish, 10th)
- Danny Darwin (Fighting Irish, 6th)
- Sean Bergman (Fighting Irish, 4th)
- Brian Boehringer (Big Johnsons, 7th)
- Other (name player)
(Week 3 results): Who will turn out to be the steal of the No Fehr auction?
- Jose Lima (Cactus League, 1A): Five votes
- Others receiving one vote: Dmitri Young (Winning O'Men, 3A), Greg Vaughn (Cactus League, 6A), Yoshii Masato (I'm Idaho, 2A)
Owners' comments:
From Barry (Master Batters): The steal of the pool is without a doubt: Jose Lima, 1a. Even if he only wins another six games the rest of the year he will be the steal of the pool.
From Jeff O. (I'm Idaho!): Other than getting shelled a couple weeks ago by the Colorado Rockies bombers, Masato Yoshii has been a solid performer all year so far. He has my vote.
From Greg (Winning O'Men): Though my heart is pulling me toward Dmitri Young, I have to choose Jose Lima as my steal of the draft. I don't know how he's doing it, but he is single-handedly keeping the Astros as well as the C.L. Peelers in
first place. Young seems to have finally reached his potential, and the fact that McKeon continues to let him play the outfield makes him even more valuable. Now all they have to do is dump Sanders so Young and Stynes will be playing everyday out there.
(Week 2 results): Who got the best of the Batbold/Splendid Splinters trade?
- Batbold (which received Veras and Jenkins): Four votes
- Splendid Splinters (which received Neagle): Three votes
Owners' comments:
From Greg (O'Men): My take on the trade is that Mike got the better of the deal, although Veras got hurt last week. I like Jenkins a lot, and for $10, I think he's more than worth the gamble and Veras, if healthy, will steal 40 bases. Both those guys are keepers for next year whereas Neagle will be gone...Even though Mike may be dumping his players, he's getting some pretty good players in return. Brantley ($17), Veras ($19), Jenkins ($10), Collier ($3), and Green ($6) are all potential keepers. Who's to say they don't go off the rest of the year?
From Jeff O. (I'm Idaho!): I like the Splinters pick-up of Neagle. In the short run, Bill's team gets my vote. We'll have to wait and see if Veras stays healthy through the rest of the season and if Jenkins can make a late season appearance.
From Barry (Master Batters): Splendid Splinters win the trade easily this year. Next year is when Batbold will get the best of the deal. Overall, though, Splendid Splinters still win the deal.
From Eric (Cactus League): I actually think that this was a good move by Mike Lloyd. His team has more holes than the Titanic. Now the Bonds trade was probably made out of haste but this (Neagle) one does have merit. Now if he's willing to trade me Ramon Martinez for Tom Prince... the Bonds trade, in my mind would be a steal for "Batbold".
(Week one results): Who is going to turn out to be the bust of the 1998 NF draft?
- Reggie Sanders (Batbold, 21A): Four votes
- Lance Johnson (Idaho, 20A): Two votes
- Barry Larkin (Harry Careys, 24A): Two votes
- Others receiving votes: Felix Heredia (Master Batters, 12A), Wille Blair (Stanwyk Shepherds, 10A), Paul Konerko (Batbold, 18A), Royce Clayton (I'm Idaho!, 24A)
