This past season (1996 / 1997) the Strokes were one of the fastest high
school level crews in the nation achieving the following success:
- The Varsity Men 's 8 were second at the San Diego Crew Classic, Won the Head of the Estuary, came in third at the Southwest Regional Championships and placed 5th in the National Championships in Cincinnati. They beat all the teams they raced against at least once during the season including the national champion St. Ignatius boat (2 times) , were victorious over previously unbeaten Cincinnati and only failed to better St. Paul's School of New Hampshire in miserable wind and rain.
- The Novice Women's 8 were undefeated and won the Southwest Regional Championships, the Novice Regatta, and several gold medals in the Long Beach Regatta.
- The Novice Men's 8 won the silver medal at the Southwest Regional Championships.
- The Junior Varsity Men's 8 were 1st at the San Diego Crew Classic and 4th at the Southwest Regionals.
- The Varsity Women's 8 came in 3rd at the Spring Oakland Estuary, 3rd at the Long Beach Invitational and were invited to the prestigious Head of the Charles but were rained out by a fierce "northeaster."
- The Junior Varisty Women's 8 came in 3rd at the San Diego Crew Classic and 2nd at the Southwest Regionals.
