RESULTS OF 1998 BATTLE OF THE BAY

 
                                         March 14, 1998

 
The Oakland Strokes took first in three of the seven events they entered and placed second in  four others at the 2nd annual Battle of the Bay varsity regatta held on the estuary on March 14, 1997.  The regatta featured St. Ignatius College Prep, Berkeley High School, Marin Rowing and the Oakland Strokes.  A crowd of about 500 observed the event in gorgeous 70 degree temperatures with flat water and minimal wind.   The women's varsity trophy went to Marin Rowing and the Oakland Strokes captured the men's varsity cup for the second consecutive year. The Strokes swept all three varsity men's events.

Immediately after the awards ceremony approximately 150 people listened to the inspiring comments of Jamie Koven, Sarah Garner and Steve Gladstone at Scott's Pavilion in Jack London Square.
