Bartleby

This story seems altogether dull, and quite frankly, boring. I read through clear to the end of the story, and found out that in the end Bartleby dies. Why? What purpose does this serve the author. What point does he make in having him die? Well any way he is dead. We also come to find out that in the end he had lost his job at some other place, when the party that he was working for was ousted from office. This intern seems to send him into a deep despair. Not knowing what to do with himself other than work he finds a place of employment, and works till he finds that it is not fulfilling. With this not fulfilling his loss he knows not what else to do so merely stands about pondering his circumstance. He is oblivious to the narrator’s concern, and in the end kills himself by preferring not to eat. What kind of a story is this? 1
