MMP WRESTLEFEST 2000 Tuesday, May 30
2000 Safeco Field -- Seattle, WA
Wednesday, May 31 2000 Baltimore
Arena -- Baltimore, MD
Thursday, June 1 2000 Madison Square Garden -- New York,
NY
MMP WrestleFest 2000 is on the air!!! More than 50, 000 fans have
filled Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington for tonight's event. Commentators Jerry Wood
and Ray Brewer are at ringside.
Wood: Welcome, everyone, to MMP WrestleFest!! I'm Jerry Wood
alongside Ray Brewer here in Seattle as we kick off celebrations of the two year
anniversary of the Midwestern Mayhem Promotion! Six championship series will get
underway tonight and will carry through tomorrow's card in Baltimore, Maryland and then
Thursday's event at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Four singles champions
as well as the world tag team champions will attempt to run the gauntlet of three top
challengers over the next three days in defense of their titles starting here at Safeco Field,
and two men, Benjamin Childs and Crimson, will begin the four man series to crown a
new MMP extreme champion, a championship that was officialy vacated at 9:00 AM
eastern time today by Virus Richards, who gave up the title in order to secure a world
championship match tomorrow night in Baltimore.
Brewer: Also getting underway tonight is the second annual Survivor's Cup Challenge.
Two twenty-man rumbles have been scheduled, one tonight and one tomorrow night, and
the winners will go on to a Hell in a Cell match on the final night of this event, the winner
of which will be crowned the Survivor's Cup Challenge Champion and will face the MMP
world champion at MMP Chaos on the Coast on June 28. Some late breaking news we
have on the Survivor's Cup Challenge is that, in celebration of the two year anniversary of
the MMP and in acknowledgement of some of the accomplishments of names from the
past, commissioner Grant Lindsay has extended invitations to several former MMP
competitors who have accepted and will take part in the Survivor's Cup Challenge. We
haven't been given confirmation on which former stars have been invited here and who will
compete in the event, but my sources say that several former titleholders, including two
former MMP world champions not currently under contract with this company, will take
part in the Survivor's Cup.
Wood: With so much happening here at Safeco Field we take you now to our
opening....hang on...folks I have just received word that something has taken place
backstage...can we get a camera back there...
The camera cuts back to the dressing room area where Super Cupid,
wearing a Cincinnati Reds #30 Ken Griffey, Jr. jersey, is seen coming out of Masochrist's
room carrying a baseball bat. Inside the room the camera picks up a shot of Masochrist
lying face down on the dressing room floor in a puddle of blood. A voice can be heard off
camera calling for assistance as the shot goes back to Brewer and Wood.
Wood: Super Cupid getting an early shot in on his former tag team
partner Masochrist, who is scheduled not only to compete in the Survivor's Cup Ray
spoke about but also in the tag team and television championship series'. This attack
could have huge implications on all three of those events, and we will attempt to get an
update on Masochrist's condition as soon as one becomes available. As I was trying to
say, with so much going on here at WrestleFest 2000 we will wait no longer to send you
to the ring for our opening bout, the first match in the tag team championship series as the
Hall of Fame inductees Harbinger & The Destroyer get set to face the new duo of The
Soldiers of Misfortune. Let's go to the ring here at WrestleFest!
MMP Tag Team Championship Match HARBINGER &
THE DESTROYER (C) vs. THE SOLDIERS OF MISFORTUNE
With the challengers already waiting in the ring, Harbinger and
Destroyer came down the aisle with their tag team championship belts displayed proudly
around their waists. Harbinger opened the match for the champions and he went right
after Soul Crusher, nailing the challenger with a running kneelift as the German looked for
a lockup. With the man winded Harbinger went to work with a series of hard kicks to the
legs before bringing Crusher over to the corner and tagging in his gigantic partner, The
Destroyer. Harbinger swept Crusher's legs out from under him before stepping out to the
apron, allowing Destroyer to drop a big elbow across Crusher's left knee. The TV
champion then climbed out to the floor where he grabbed the former TV titleholder's legs
and pulled them around the ringpost, slamming both legs hard against the steel before
getting back into the ring and tagging Harbinger back into the match. Harbinger made his
entry by way of the top rope, climbing to the upper strand and jumping off with a big
elbow, driving it down hard into Soul Crusher's sternum. He didn't stay in the match for
long, though, quickly making yet another tag with Destroyer, who came in and pulled Soul
Crusher to his feet, lifting him up in a powerbomb. Just as Destroyer drove him down
Harbinger came off the top with a kneedrop across the throat, driving Soul Crusher's head
and neck hard into the canvas. Harbinger then made the cover while Destroyer kept an
eye on Teufel, scoring the 1...2...3 to move the Cult duo on into the second day as tag
team champions.
Wood: Harbinger and The Destroyer victorious here in the opening
bout at WrestleFest, much as they were last year in capturing the tag team championship
from No Remorse. Tonight they entered the tag title series in the role of champions, but
the result was the same - The Cult coming out on top.
Brewer: Remember last year, Wood. The Destroyer was absolutely dominant at
WrestleFest one year ago, and it looks like he's getting on track in the early going here
tonight. A short contest early on the card will allow the big man to keep in shape for his
TV title defense later on, something that can't make "Atomic Thunder" Wade Grayson too
happy.
Wood: No, I'm sure Grayson would have preferred to see a long, drawn out encounter
between these two teams here to possibly wear Destroyer down before their match later
tonight, but that was not to be. Grayson will have to defeat a Destroyer that's on the top
of his game if he's to walk away with the title later on. The midwestern championship
series gets underway next as the self proclaimed greatest midwestern champion of all time,
"Amazing" Andrew Peters looks to overcome his greatest test to date, three challengers in
three days, the first of which is the bizarre individual known as Controversy.
MMP Midwestern Championship Match "AMAZING"
ANDREW PETERS (C) vs. CONTROVERSY
Controversy came to the ring first, accompanied by his large entourage
of The Beautiful Ones. Lolli Pop, Angel Dust, Auntie Helen, The Raggedy Annes, and of
course the hand puppet of Reverend Bob were all out with the bizarre painted man, and
the group stood together in a huddle in the middle of the ring as Andrew Peters made his
way down with Amanda. Once in the ring Peters stood perfectly still, proudly displaying
the midwestern title belt around his waist as Amanda removed his robe. The midwestern
champ then turned to face his opponent and the two men locked up, jockeying for position
in the middle of the ring. Peters took the early advantage by taking Controversy down
with an armdrag, but the painted man quickly shot back to his feet. Peters was there
waiting for him, though, catching him with a series of hard right hands to the face, backing
the challenger into the corner. The champion then laid into him with some solid chops to
the chest before bringing Controversy out of the corner with a snapmare and applying a
rear chinlock to wear the man down. After a few moments trapped in the hold
Controversy fought his way back to his feet, driving the point of his elbow repeatedly into
the midsection of Peters to break the chinlock. A hiptoss from the challenger sent Peters
over the top rope and out to the floor, finally giving Controversy a chance to regroup. As
Peters hit the floor the referee stepped in and instructed Controversy to keep the fight in
the ring, but the challenger simply responded with some incoherent double-talk, leaving
the ref somewhat perplexed as he tried to figure out what the man was saying. With the
official's back turned The Raggedy Annes sprung into action, stomping viciously on the
downed champion on the outside of the ring. The Annes then moved back as the ref
started to turn around and their boss, Controversy, climbed to the top rope. Peters lay
prone on the floor as Controversy jumped off with the Cherry Popper, but the champ
rolled out of the way at the last minute, causing Controversy to land flat on his face on the
ground. From there Peters took over once again, grabbing Controversy and rolling him
into the ring where he dropped an elbow across the knee. Peters then applied a standing
figure four and dropped down, driving his knee hard into the challenger's. With
Controversy grabbing his leg in obvious pain Peters slid back out to the floor and grabbed
the challenger's legs, pulling them over around the ringpost and slamming them against the
steel. He then got back in the ring and pulled Controversy out towards the center where
he tried to apply a sharpshooter. Controversy, though, still had some fight in him. He
shot his leg up and connected with a low blow before Peters could get the hold applied,
and then rolled the champ into a small package for the 1...2...Peters kicked out at the last
minute. Both men shot up to their feet, but it was Peters getting the blow in, connecting
with a dropkick right to Controversy's injured knee. Again he tried to apply the
sharpshooter, but this time he managed to turn Controversy over and get the hold fully
hooked on. The painted man couldn't hang on for long and quickly tapped out, giving the
win to Peters.
Wood: Andrew Peters is still the midwestern champion, defeating
Controversy with a sharpshooter here at WrestleFest. Controversy came close to
capturing the title but it was not to be, as Peters furthers his claim that he is the greatest
midwestern champion of all time.
Brewer: Yes, Peters pulls it out despite the antics of that painted buffoon and his mental
patient buddies. These guys are no better than The Family if you ask me. The whole lot
of them should be thrown in a giant dumpster and left on the porch of an institution out in
the sticks somewhere. The MMP would be better off.
Wood: It's a wonder you lived through the seventies with that kind of attitude, Ray. It
seems like anything even slightly off from the norm gets under your skin. Something else I
know you're a big fan of Ray is the hardcore stuff, and we're about to take our first step
towards crowning a new MMP extreme champion. The weapon of choice match is up
next with Benjamin Childs taking on Cult member Crimson.
Weapon of Choice Match BENJAMIN CHILDS vs.
CRIMSON
Crimson came to the ring first, carrying in his hand a bent steel pipe
which was to be his one selected weapon that would hang high above the ring in his
corner. As the referee climbed the turnbuckle to attach the pipe to the pole Childs' music
played over the loudspeaker and the former universal champion made his way to the ring
carrying a steel chair wrapped in barbed wire. The ref set Childs' chair on the pole in the
opposite corner and Childs set up his customary table on the outside of the ring before
stepping through the ropes. The big man went right after Crimson as soon as the bell
sounded, backing him into the corner with a series of hard right hands to the side of the
head. A left finally dropped Crimson to the canvas, leaving him slouched against the
middle and bottom turnbuckles. With his opponent down Childs jumped through the
ropes out to the floor and grabbed a trash can, which he brought into the ring and
slammed over Crimson's head. As he hit Crimson a small sack flew out of the trash can, a
sack which Childs opened and dumped out on the canvas, spreading hundreds of
thumbtacks all over the mat. He reached down, pulled Crimson up, and delivered a
chokeslam onto the tacks, but since the only way to win this match was to hit your
opponent with your specifically chosen weapon, Childs didn't go for a cover. Instead he
pulled Crimson to his feet once more, this time setting him up for the Childs Play. With
Crimson up in the air Childs ran across the ring and threw him down with the powerbomb,
dropping him over the top rope and down through the table on the outside! Crimson was
left laying in amongst the busted table as Childs climbed the turnbuckles in his corner and
grabbed the barbed wire chair off the pole. He tossed the chair down to the floor, and
then jumped down from the top turnbuckle onto the apron. Crimson slowly started
getting to his feet, but as he did so Childs jumped off while the man was bent over and
delivered a Rocker Dropper, driving Crimson face first into the chair. The referee saw it
and called for the bell, declaring Chlids the winner.
Wood: Benjamin Childs wins the weapon of choice match, and will
now go on to face The Ryno tomorrow in Baltimore. The winner of that match will have
a shot at the extreme championship a little over 48 hours from now.
Brewer: Was that supposed to be a wrestling match? If I'm not mistaken, Ben Childs won
that match because Crimson fell face first onto a steel chair. THAT ISN'T WRESTLING!
Wrestling has pinfalls. Wrestling has submissions. Wrestling isn't supposed to be a
modern day three stooges routine. Barbed wire, thumbtacks...this isn't about athletic
competition, it's about acting like barbarians.
Wood: And there are some that say that if a man can succeed in the extreme division he
can succeed in anything this business has to offer. These men take a great deal of
punishment in these extreme matches, and amazingly they are still able to walk away from
the ring. All three men still in the extreme title series are former extreme champions, and
another man who has held that title on numerous occasions is the reigning MMP television
champion, The Destroyer. The Destroyer, who has already succeeded in his first tag title
defense of WrestleFest earlier tonight, will now begin defense of his singles championship
as he takes on the fast rising newcomer "Atomic Thunder" Wade Grayson.
MMP Television Championship Match THE DESTROYER
(C) vs. "ATOMIC THUNDER" WADE GRAYSON
Destroyer came to the ring proudly carrying his MMP TV title belt
over his shoulder, slowly stalking the ring as his inexperienced opponent waited inside the
squared circle. The giant man stepped over the top rope and started towards Grayson, but
"Atomic Thunder" quickly slid out under the bottom rope, avoiding a confrontation with
his much larger opponent. Destroyer didn't want to play any games, though, and quickly
followed the man out to the floor. This was playing right into Grayson's hands, though,
and as soon as the big man hit the floor Grayson charged in and nailed Destroyer with a
spear, dropping Destroyer flat on his back. The challenger quickly rolled the champion
back into the ring to capitalize on the upper hand, nailing Destroyer with a pair of
forearms to the side of the head once inside. He then whipped the large champion off the
ropes and went for a spinebuster, but Destroyer's gigantic frame was too much for
Grayson to take over this early in the match, and the champion countered by slamming a
forearm down across the back of the challenger's head. Grayson staggered back and
Destroyer was on him right away, hammering the man with punches that backed Grayson
into the corner. Destroyer then whipped him across the ring into the far corner, following
up with an avalanche that crushed "Atomic Thunder" against the buckle. Grayson
stumbled out, walking right into a kick to the midsection from Destroyer, who then
hooked the man's arms and slammed him down with a double-underhook powerbomb!
Destroyer then went to work on Grayson's legs, delivering a kneedrop to the inner thigh
and locking the challenger in a figure four leglock. The massive size of Destroyer's legs
nearly crushed Grayson in the hold, but somehow Grayson managed to hang on, refusing
to give it up and eventually reaching out to grab the ropes, forcing Destroyer to relinquish
the hold. With the aid of the ropes Grayson was able to pull himself to his feet, but
Destroyer didn't allow that for long. He kicked Grayson in the back of the leg, taking
"Atomic Thunder" off his feet once more. The TV champ then backed off and waited for
Grayson to get up again, and when he did he kicked Grayson's leg again, but this time the
challenger caught Destroyer's foot and countered with a kick to the midsection and a
DDT! Grayson was slow to follow up, though, as his leg was making it very difficult for
him to move around. By the time he was able to move in on Destroyer again the giant
champion was back to his feet and charging Grayson with a clothesline. Grayson,
however, ducked out of the way and countered with a clothesline of his own, sending
Destroyer over the top rope and all the way out to the floor. The challenger followed
Destroyer out, pulling the big man up and whipping him towards the ring steps but
Destroyer reversed it, sending Grayson into the steps instead. Grayson's knee struck the
steel hard, sending the challenger collapsing to the floor clutching his already injured leg in
agony. Destroyer didn't notice Grayson's injury and rolled back into the ring while the ref
continued to count. Grayson struggled to pull himself to his feet, but it was no use. He
couldn't put any weight on his bad leg, and the ref's count reached ten. Destroyer was
declared the winner by countout.
Wood: The Destroyer retains the TV title, but I would guess that
comes as a somewhat unsatisfactory win. He didn't get a pin, he didn't get a submission,
he only got a countout. I'm sure the big man was looking for more here tonight.
Brewer: He might say that, but given that he may have to go through two more tag team
title matches, two more TV title matches, a rumble, and a hell in a cell match over the next
two days, I'm sure Destroyer will take the win any way he can get it.
Wood: That could well be true. Destroyer does have quite a path ahead of him if he is to
duplicate his successes from a year ago at this event. During that last match, though, I did
receive an update on the condition of Masochrist after that savage attack by Super Cupid.
I understand Masochrist has been taken to a local hospital, and doctors have told him that,
due to the extent of his injuries, he will not be able to compete here at WrestleFest this
week. That leaves Ryno alone for his tag title shot tomorrow night, and leaves no
challenger for the TV title on the final day of this event, good news for The Cult on both
ends. For now, though, we continue on with the festivities here in Seattle with the first
match of the universal championship series. Former tag team partners do battle as Death
puts his gold up for grabs against Wolverine.
MMP Universal Championship Match DEATH (C) vs.
WOLVERINE
As soon as Death stepped through the ropes the challenger was all
over his former tag team championship partner but Death was ready for him, ducking
Wolverine's clothesline and catching the man on the rebound with a boot to the face.
Wolverine went down hard, and Death never let up from that point on. After dropping a
big leg across Wolverine's chest Death pulled the man up and delivered a backbreaker,
which he followed up with a kneedrop. Wolverine crawled away from Death, laying in the
corner to try and catch his breath, but Death closed in and pressed his boot against
Wolverine's throat, choking the challenger for all he was worth. The referee began to
administer his count, and Death broke right before the disqualification could be called. As
Wolverine crawled out of the corner Death quickly hopped up to the second rope and
dove off with a flying elbow, driving the point of the elbow down across the sternum. He
then pulled Wolverine up to his feet and delivered an atomic drop, which led right into the
Death Drop! Death floated over and covered Wolverine for the 1...2...3.
Wood: Death retains the universal championship, defeating his former
tag team championship partner yet again, gaining a measure of revenge for having to be
Wolverine's lackey for a week a couple of weeks ago.
Brewer: It almost looked like Wolverine forgot that he was supposed to try and win the
match tonight. He understandably lost on purpose a couple of weeks ago, and he fought
like he was doing the same thing tonight. Dominating performance for Death, who will
now meet The Joker's Child tomorrow night.
Wood: It's now time for the first of our two survivor's cup rumbles. Twenty men will go
into this match at timed intervals, with elimination occuring only when a wrestler is
thrown over the top rope to the floor. We're about ready to introduce the first man, so
let's go back to the ring.
SURVIVOR'S CUP RUMBLE #1
Just as the ring announcer finished going over the rules for the fans in
the arena, "Rhythmeen" by ZZ Top played over the loudspeaker and the first man to enter,
Ace Manley, made his way down the ring. Ace received a loud ovation as he returned to
the MMP, slapping hands with the fans as he came down the aisle. Those cheers quickly
turned to boos, though, as "Shout at the Devil '97" played, indicating the arrival of Super
Cupid. Cupid slid into the ring and the two men locked up right away, with Ace gaining
the upper hand early as he hiptossed Cupid over. Cupid shot back to his feet but Ace
caught him with a clothesline, putting him down once again. Ace then went to pull Cupid
up but Cupid caught him with a hard low blow followed by a DDT, driving Ace into the
canvas as the buzzer sounded to introduce the next man, one half of The Soldiers of
Misfortune, Teufel. The giant German came running down to the ring and went right after
Cupid, nailing him with a forearm to the back of the head. Teufel then hoisted Cupid up in
the air, but before he could deliver a move Ace Manley caught the big man with a
dropkick, causing him to drop Cupid before collapsing to the canvas. Ace began driving a
series of knees into the ribcage of the fallen giant, and moments later Super Cupid joined
in the attack, showing a brief moment of teamwork between Cupid and Ace. The next
entrant was one half of The Raggedy Annes tag team, Annie Christ. The newcomer came
to the aid of Teufel, nailing both Ace and Cupid with a running double clothesline. He
then started to pull Teufel to his feet, but Annie was interrupted by the arrival of
Controversy and his tag team partner, Annie Christian. Controversy told the Annes that
the wrong Anne had come out to the ring, ordering Christian and Christ to switch. With
confused expressions on their faces they complied, and Annie Christian climbed into the
ring. Controversy and Annie Christ then left the ring, but Annie Christian seemed intent to
stay with his fellow Beautiful Ones, eliminating himself in order to follow them back to the
dressing room. Controversy hung his head in shame as he led the team to the back while,
in the ring, Ace and Cupid teamed up to send Teufel over the top to the floor. The first
two entrants then went back at one another, but were interrupted almost immediately by
the buzzer signifying the next entrant. The identity of the next man didn't stay a mystery
for long as The Ryno burst through the curtain and came sprinting down the aisle to attack
Super Cupid. A clothesline knocked Cupid to the canvas and Ryno turned to face
Manley, slapping hands with his former HWA tag team partner before joining him in a
double team effort on Cupid. The Cult Master then came out from the dressing room,
walking slowly down towards the ring as the sixth entrant. Upon arriving at the ring Cult
Master stayed out on the apron, watching as Ryno delivered a forearm smash to Cupid,
sending the Quincy native right into Ace, who locked on a sleeper hold. The buzzer
sounded again, but this time no one showed up to join in the match. The seventh entrant
failed to appear, and later in the match it was announced that the seventh entrant was to
have been Masochrist, who was unable to show due to the injuries he had suffered as a
result of Super Cupid's pre-show attack. Finally The Cult Master stepped into the ring,
going right after Ace Manley and nailing him with a European uppercut as Ryno, on the
other side of the ring, sent Cupid over the top rope to the floor with a clothesline. The
crowd cheered loudly as Cupid was sent back to the dressing room, while on the other
side of the ring Cult Master had backed Ace into the corner and was laying into the man
with hard kicks to the body. Ryno went over to help his buddy, but he stopped in the
middle of the ring when he heard the buzzer sound, indicating the arrival of the next
participant, Baital. Baital slid into the ring and Ryno was all over him, pummeling Baital
into the canvas as Ace began to mount a comeback against Cult Master, using an amateur
style takedown to wrestle the bigger man to the canvas. Baital began to mount a
comeback against Ryno, raking the man's eyes in order to get back to his feet, but Baital's
advantage was short lived. A running clothesline from Ryno sent Baital over the top and
out, just prior to the arrival of Mr. Beumont, entrant number nine. Beumont came to the
ring in his Regulator attire and went right after Ryno, who had his back turned. He
approached Ryno from behind and whacked him across the back with Loui Slugger, but it
had very little effect on the former world champion. Ryno turned and immediately
grabbed Beumont, tossing him over the top to the floor. Beumont was quickly up to his
feet and complaining to the referee that "that no good schmuck Ryno was copying him".
Ryno then turned his attention to The Cult Master, joining Ace in another double team
effort, this time against the June 1 world title contender. The next entrant was the first of
the former MMP superstars to enter the event as one time Syndicate member "Stunning"
Steve Simon came running down the aisle. He slid into the ring and went right after Ryno,
pulling Ryno up off of Cult Master and whipping him hard into the turnbuckle. A thumb
to the eyes from The Cult Master slowed Ace Manley down, enabling the leader of The
Cult to get back to his feet. He delivered a boot to the midsection and then nailed Ace
with a brainbuster, taking all the wind out of Ace's sails. From there he was easy pickings
for Cult Master, who pulled Ace off the canvas and tossed him over the top rope to the
floor. Cult Master then turned to Ryno and Simon, nailing both men with a running
double clothesline. Again the buzzer sounded and out to the ring came Psychotic Sam,
accompanied by not only the Family but also Virus Richards. As the group arrived at the
ring Virus leaned over and told Sam that he had caught Ryno beating up Spanish
schoolchildren outside the arena earlier in the day. Sam started throwing a fit and quickly
slid into the ring, jumping on Ryno's back and raking his eyes from behind. He got off and
nailed Ryno with a running jumpkick while on the other side of the ring The Cult Master
nailed Steve Simon with a piledriver. The buzzer sounded for entrant number twelve, and
out from the dressing room came Adam Kogler, carrying a microphone. He began
berating the wrestlers in the ring as well as the fans in attendance, eventually climbing up
on the apron and getting right in the face of Ryno. Ryno didn't put up with it for long,
quickly nailing Kogler with a hard right hand, dropping the obnoxious journalist to the
floor, much to the delight of the sold out crowd. As Psychotic Sam turned his attention
away from Ryno to go after Steve Simon, Kogler got back up on the apron, yelling at
Ryno once again. While Ryno's back was turned, though, newcomer Twisted Steel came
in from the crowd and nailed Ryno from behind with a metal crowbar, sending Ryno over
the top rope out to the floor. Steel then stepped over the top, eliminating himself, and
followed Kogler to the back, leaving Ryno laying on the floor. Sam tossed Steve Simon
over the top on the other side of the ring, leaving only Sam and Cult Master in the ring.
The two weren't even able to lock up before the buzzer sounded again, this time
introducing Lexus, who was making his pay per view debut. Lexus slid in under the
bottom rope and ran right for The Cult Master, but Cult Master simply stepped out of the
way and used Lexus' own momentum to send the rookie over the top to the floor. While
Cult Master was distracted Sam attacked him from behind, knocking the man down with a
running clothesline. Upon instructions from Virus on the outside Sam waited for Cult
Master to get to his feet to take the man down again with a flying bodypress as another of
the MMP stars from the past, West Law, came running towards the ring. Law took full
advantage of being the fresh man in the ring, attacking both Sam and Cult Master. He
pulled Cult Master up and sent the man to the corner, kicking him repeatedly in the upper
body while Sam sat rocking back and forth in the corner on the other side of the ring.
Again the buzzer went, this time bringing out a former MMP world champion, Mr.
Marvellous. Marvellous came to the ring very slowly, and received a very loud chorus of
boos as he made his way down the aisle. When Marvellous finally got into the ring he
went right for his former rival West Law, a man he feuded with over the tag team
championship in the summer of 1998. He laid into Law with a series of right hands but
Law was there to meet the challenge, turning and nailing Marvellous with a clothesline.
Law pulled Marvellous up and the two went at it fast and furious, trading right hands back
and forth as yet another name from the past, Lenny Shaw, came running down to the ring
to get involved. He joined the other two former stars, Law and Marvellous, in their battle
while Sam and Cult Master continued to battle, with Sam on top choking his opponent
with his bare hands. He finally started to pull Cult Master up, only to nail the man with
the Psychotic Smash!! Sam then pulled Cult Master up again, this time tossing him by his
bright white hair over the top rope and out to the floor. Virus ran over and immediately
began berating The Cult Master as Wolverine came running out to join in the action,
nailing Sam from behind with a clothesline. Cult Master reached up and nailed Virus with
a hard right hand to the throat, staggering Virus back against the safety rail. Virus was
quick to regroup and hop over the rail into the crowd, with Cult Master giving chase all
the way to the back. Lenny Shaw was paired off with West Law while Mr. Marvellous,
Wolverine's first MMP rival, attacked the "Michigan Outlaw" from behind, sending him
right into Sam, who backdropped Wolverine over the top rope and out. Sam then turned
his attention to Marvellous, delivering a hard kick to the midsection. The buzzer sounded
once again and the second former world champion to enter the match, Blitzkrieg, came
running down to the ring. He slid in and went right after Marvellous, Aries' closest ally
when Blitz and Aries feuded over the world title two years earlier. On the other side of
the ring Shaw charged West Law with a clothesline, but Law ducked low and
backdropped Shaw sending him over the top to the floor. As Law turned to taunt Shaw
Sam nailed him with a clothesline, sending Law over the top right on top of Shaw. The
two men brawled all the way back to the dressing room as the buzzer sounded once more,
introducing the second last entrant, Masked Man X. MMX hurried down to the ring and
grabbed Blitz and Marvellous from behind, lifting both men up and dumping them over the
top rope simultaneously. The match was down to Psychotic Sam and Masked Man X,
with one man still to come. With MMX distracted while eliminating Blitz and Marvellous
Sam jumped on the former extreme champion's back, reaching around and raking the
man's eyes while wrestling him to the canvas. The buzzer then sounded for the final time
to announce the twentieth entrant...the gigantic MMP television champion, The Destroyer.
The big man slowly made his way down the aisle, finally stepping over the top rope as
Sam whipped MMX across the ring, sending him right into a big boot to the face from
Destroyer. As Sam caught his breath in the corner Destroyer pulled MMX to his feet and
lifted him up in a powerbomb. Instead of slamming him to the canvas, though, Destroyer
carried MMX over towards the ropes and dropped him with a powerbomb down onto the
steel safety rail, eliminating MMX from the match and bringing the rumble down to two
men...Sam and Destroyer. Once MMX was out Sam went right after Destroyer, bouncing
off the ropes with a flying tackle. Sam's small frame, less than half the size of Destroyer's,
was easily caught, though, and Destroyer simply tossed Sam over the top, down on top of
The Family, eliminating the last man to win the match.
Wood: The Destroyer wins the first survivor's cup rumble, earning a
birth in the competition final for the second year in a row. One day down, two to go, and
it's looking like the big man is on track for a repeat performance of 1999 already.
Brewer: Battle royals always favor the bigger wrestlers, and when a man with the size and
ability of Destroyer draws the last number it's almost impossible to beat him. There aren't
many men left in the ring, and those that are there are worn out. Now Destroyer is one
win away from a shot at the MMP world championship at Chaos on the Coast.
Wood: And he will have a chance to earn that match coming up in about forty eight hours
in Madison Square Garden against the winner of tomorrow night's rumble match. As you
mentioned Ray, the winner will face the MMP world champion at Chaos on the Coast, and
up next we bring you our main event here in Seattle, the first match in the MMP world
championship series. The Bootlegger, the reigning champion, defends the belt against one
of the men who lasted the longest in the rumble we just witnessed and a man who has been
demanding a title shot for almost a year now, Psychotic Sam. It's time for our feature
bout here in Seattle!
MMP World Championship Match THE BOOTLEGGER
(C) vs. PSYCHOTIC SAM
The Bootlegger came to the ring first, accompanied by ASSociate
Passion and The Black Cross, hearing a loud chorus of boos as he arrived at the ring. Sam
then came down the aisle, accompanied by The Family and Virus Richards. He was
carrying Marbels the Cat as the came to the ring, clutching the cat firmly against his chest.
Before Sam could slide into the ring Virus pulled him aside and told him that Bootlegger
had been importing polluted drinking water from Mexico into Spain to be served at Sam's
royal functions. Sam flew into a rage and nailed Bootlegger with a running jump kick,
knocking the heavy Italian to the canvas where the challenger began choking the world
champion with his bare hands. The referee began to administer his count, ordering Sam to
break the hold. Sam finally let up just before the disqualification and backed into the
corner, waiting for Bootlegger to get to his feet. Once Barlotta was up Sam nailed the
man with a spear, dropping him to the canvas near the corner. Sam then climbed to the
top rope and jumped off with a moonsault, landing flush across Bootlegger's chest. He
made the cover and hooked the leg, but Bootlegger managed to kick out after only two.
Sam was undaunted, though, and pulled Bootlegger up to his feet to deliver the Psychotic
Smash. Again Sam made the cover, but this time Bootlegger didn't kick out. The ref
made the three count, awarding the world title to Psychotic Sam. The Family celebrated
in the ring as Bootlegger slowly rolled out under the bottom rope and headed back to the
dressing room. Virus cracked a smile and slowly nodded his head in approval as the scene
fades to black.
MMP WrestleFest 2000 is on the air! More than 20, 000 fans are
packed into the Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, Maryland for tonight's huge event.
Commentators Jerry Wood and Ray Brewer are at ringside.
Wood: Welcome, everyone, to day two of MMP WrestleFest 2000!
I'm Jerry Wood alongside Ray Brewer here in Baltimore for the second day of competition
celebrating the two year anniversary of the MMP. It also marks the first day of the reign
of the new MMP world champion, Psychotic Sam, who dominated and defeated The
Bootlegger to win the championship last night in Seattle. Sam's first title defense goes
down tonight against Virus Richards, a former champion in his own right, but also a man
who has forged a very strange affiliation with the new champ over the past few weeks.
Will we actually see a match in our main event tonight, or will we have another one of
those popular laydowns that has become so common over the past couple of
years?
Brewer: The potential for a great match is there, I have to admit. Frankly I think it's a
disgrace that someone like Psychotic Sam is tarnishing the prestigious championship that
many great men have held over the years. I seriously hope that Richards is able to snatch
that belt away from that little moron, hopefully bringing some dignity back to the strap
that is already suffering after only twenty four hours with The Family.
Wood: Our other championship series' continue tonight as well. The Destroyer, Andrew
Peters, Death, and The Cult remain champions after successful defenses last night in
Seattle and will attempt to move on to New York City tomorrow to the final day of the
event. We will also have the second of our two survivor's cup rumbles scheduled to take
place tonight to determine the opponent for The Destroyer in tomorrow night's final
round. We kick things off tonight, though, with the first ever barbed wire table match,
continuing the series to crown a new extreme champion. Benjamin Childs defeated
Crimson last night in the weapon of choice match, and for his effort he earns a match with
The Ryno here tonight.
Barbed Wire Table Match BENJAMIN CHILDS vs. THE
RYNO
Childs came to the ring first, carrying with him the barbed wire chair
that had been his "weapon of choice" the previous night when he defeated Crimson in
Seattle. There was no need for Childs to set up a table on the outside since the official
table, wrapped in barbed wire, had already been put in place for this special match. Before
Childs could make it to the ring, though, Ryno hopped over the safety rail along the
runway, landing behind Childs with a fire extinguisher in his hands. As Childs started
climbing into the ring Ryno ran up on him from behind and nailed him across the back with
the metal cannister, dropping Childs to the floor. Ryno then grabbed a chair and slid into
the ring, setting the chair up center ring. Once Childs began pulling himself up on the
outside Ryno bounced off the far side ropes and executed a triple jump plancha over the
top rope, but Childs saw him coming at the last minute and, out of desperation, swung
wildly with his barbed wire chair, nailing Ryno square in the midsection and causing him to
land awkwardly on the concrete. Childs began stomping his opponent, who had collapsed
against the steel ring steps, before pulling him to his feet and delivering a devastating DDT
out on the concrete floor. He then rolled Ryno into the ring, following closely behind and
waiting for Ryno to get back to his feet. Once Ryno was up Childs moved in and
delivered a superkick, sending Ryno falling back into the corner. It was clear that Childs
was playing with his opponent, believing he had the match well in hand, as he again waited
for Ryno to get up before moving in. Ryno pulled himself up and stumbled out towards
the middle of the ring when Childs charged in, but Ryno was able to pull off a desperation
move, taking Childs down with a drop toehold that dropped the big man from New
Orleans face first down onto the steel chair that Ryno had set up earlier in the match.
Purely by chance did Childs hit the chair, as it hardly seemed as if Ryno could tell where
he was at that point. Ryno, however, was quick to follow up on his good fortune,
dragging Childs over to the corner and tying him upside down in a tree of woe position.
He then set the steel chair in front of Childs' face before backing into the far corner and
running in with a baseball slide, jamming the chair right into his opponent. The force of
the blow caused Childs to fall from the corner, leaving him collapsed in the corner as Ryno
continued his attack. Ryno then pulled Childs up and delivered the Ryno Charge in the
center of the ring. Pinfalls, however, did not count in the match, so he slid out to the floor
and grabbed the barbed wire table, shoving it into the ring under the bottom rope. Once
the table was set up in the ring Ryno pulled Childs, who was still feeling the effects of the
Ryno Charge, back to his feet and brought him over to the corner. He set the man on the
top turnbuckle and prepared to deliver another Ryno Charge but Childs countered,
holding onto the turnbuckle to maintain his position. Childs then shoved Ryno off the top
rope, dropping him to the canvas just to the left of the barbed wire table, enabling the
match to continue. The New Orleans native quickly jumped down from the turnbuckle
and ran at Ryno, hoping to catch the man off guard, but Ryno saw him coming and
countered with another drop toehold onto the table. This time, though, Childs was able to
catch himself, grabbing the outside edge of the table to hold himself up and keep himself
from going through the table. He quickly turned back towards Ryno and once Ryno was
up Childs caught the man with a hard kick to the midsection before lifting him in position
for a crucifix bomb. Childs quickly turned to face the barbed wire table and slammed
Ryno down, sending him crashing through the table to the canvas to win the
match.
Wood: Benjamin Childs wins once again, and against all odds he has
advanced to the final round of the extreme championship series. Tomorrow night he will
face Masked Man X in the house of glass match for the vacant title, and I must say that
with these two very impressive wins against Crimson and Ryno, Childs may have
insurmountable momentum on his side tomorrow night as he looks to regain the title he
held briefly a little over a year ago.
Brewer: I remember when the lineup for this event was announced most people felt that it
would be next to impossible for either of the men forced to compete on the first day of this
series to get through and capture the title, but now Childs is only one win away from
doing just that. I have to give him credit, he certainly seems to have that determination in
his eyes that it will take for him to survive such a gruelling ordeal.
Wood: Ryno has to be preoccupied as well by the news we received late last night that
Masochrist will not be able to compete here tonight as a result of injuries sustained during
a pre-show attack by Super Cupid yesterday. As if losing tonight against Childs wasn't
bad enough Ryno is going to have to come back out later on and face Harbinger and The
Destroyer in a handicap match for the tag team championship. Before we get there,
though, the two members of the tag team championship duo must go at it one on one in
singles competition for the television title. We fully expect Harbinger to simply lie down
and allow himself to be pinned at the request of The Cult Master, although you never
really know what's going to happen with an unpredictable man like Harbinger. Let's go
back to the ring.
MMP Televison Championship Match THE DESTROYER
(C) vs. HARBINGER
The MMP tag team champions, Harbinger and The Destroyer, came to
the ring side by side during the introductions, Harbinger still sporting a somewhat dejected
expression on his face. The two men slowly stepped through the ropes, at which point
Destroyer reminded Harbinger of The Cult Master's instructions. Harbinger reluctantly
complied and laid down in the center of the ring, allowing Destroyer to pin him for the
three count. The big man then walked back to the dressing room, leaving Harbinger in the
ring.
Wood: Well, as I said earlier, we fully expected that this is what
would happen here tonight. The Cult Master ordered Harbinger to lie down in this match
a couple of weeks ago, and his follower did as he was told, albeit somewhat reluctantly.
This might be, however, very sound strategy on the part of The Cult, given that Harbinger
and The Destroyer could still have two tag team title matches to go during this event, we
know that Destroyer still has the survivor's cup final still to come, and Harbinger has yet
to compete in his rumble. By doing this it allowed both men to conserve their energy,
although I'm sure Harbinger would have loved a chance to test himself against his
longtime partner. The action continues non-stop here in Baltimore as the midwestern title
is about to be defended once again. The champion, "Amazing" Andrew Peters, looks to
build on his win last night over Controversy as he defends against The Cloaked Shroud in
a rematch of last month's Homicidal Tendencies contest, a match which was won by
Andrew Peters. The masked man goes for his first taste of gold here tonight at
WrestleFest.
MMP Midwestern Championship Match "AMAZING"
ANDREW PETERS (C) vs. THE CLOAKED SHROUD
The Cloaked Shroud was already waiting in the ring as Peters made his
way down, accompanied as always by the lovely Amanda. Amanda casually disrobed her
man in the center of the ring just before the bell sounded, and once the match was on
Peters charged right after Shroud, nailing him with a series of hard right hands that backed
Shroud into the ropes. A kick to the midsection doubled Shroud over, allowing Peters to
take him down with a vertical suplex. Peters then dropped an elbow across his opponent's
chest before pulling him up and sending the man over the top rope with another vertical
suplex. The champion followed Shroud out, slamming the man into the steel safety rail
before delivering a DDT on the concrete floor. He then rolled back into the ring where he
stood waiting for Shroud to recover. Once the challenger was back into it and able to roll
in under the bottom rope Peters was all over him, stomping violently across the man's
back as he entered. Peters then made an attempt at Shroud's mask, tearing desperately at
the hood, trying to reveal the true identity of the mysterious man. Shroud managed to
fight him off, swinging a wild clothesline towards Peters to back the man away. Peters
moved out of the way of the clothesline, though, and while Shroud was off balance he
applied the Antagonizer!! He wrestled the challenger to the canvas, and once there it
wasn't long before Shroud had to tap out. Peters survived another day with his title reign
intact.
Wood: Andrew Peters retains the midwestern championship yet
again, this time in very short order as he disposes of The Cloaked Shroud. Both men will
now have to put this match behind them and get ready for later tonight when both will
participate in the survivor's cup rumble later on tonight.
Brewer: They've both got big title matches coming up tomorrow night as well. Peters still
has to go through Aries if he is to survive WrestleFest as the midwestern champion.
Shroud, on the other hand, will team up with Masked Man X to challenge for the tag team
titles. That's one of the great things about WrestleFest, it puts the guys to a real test and
see not only how they compete physically in the ring but it also tests their ability to
prepare mentally and go night after night against top competition. Only the strong survive
here, and WrestleFest proves it.
Wood: I couldn't have said it better myself, Ray. The best make their name here, and
there's a reason for that. Not everyone can succeed in an event of this design, and it really
does separate the men from the boys, so to speak. Our next matchup is a very interesting
situation in that it is a return match from last year's WrestleFest and the first day of the
midwestern championship series. Back then it was The Joker's Child in the role of
champion against the challenger Death but tonight the roles are reversed, and it will be
Death defending the universal title against Joker. Let's go back to the ring!
MMP Universal Championship Match DEATH (C) vs.
THE JOKER'S CHILD
The Joker's Child came to the ring first, accompanied as always by
Ponch. Joker was smoking a cigar as he made his way out, but he didn't get very far
before Death came running out from the dressing room and attacked the challenger from
behind. He dragged Joker down to the steps and slammed the man hard into the steel
before sending him into the ring, where Joker quickly scampered over to the corner. He
shot up to his feet and leaned through the ropes in the corner, forcing the referee to step in
and hold Death back, keeping him from getting at Joker in the early going. As the ref
backed Death away Joker reached over top of the official and gave Death a shove, but
when Death ran in with a clothesline Joker pulled the official in the way, forcing him to
take the brunt of the blow, knocking the ref down early. Joker took advantage right away,
nailing Death with a hard kick below the belt while Death was caught off guard by the
distraction of the referee. A clothesline from Joker put Death to the canvas, and Joker
paraded around the ring early on, celebrating his early advantage. He pulled Death to his
feet and took him right back down with a suplex, which was followed up right away by a
big legdrop. Joker then slid out to the floor and grabbed Death's feet, pulling the
champion's legs over around the ringpost. Before Joker could slam Death's legs against
the steel, though, the champion kicked Joker off, sending him hard back into the safety
rail. Death slid out of the ring to join his opponent on the outside where he slammed
Joker head first into the ring post before sending him back into the ring. Death followed
closely behind, whipping Joker off the ropes and catching him with a drop toehold that
dropped the challenger throat-first across the middle rope. With Joker's neck draped
across the metal cable Death slingshot himself over the top rope and drove an elbow down
across the back of Joker's head and neck, sending the clown back into the ring. By this
point the referee was back on his feet and starting to count Death on the outside. The
champion quickly rolled back in and went right back after Joker, picking him up on his
shoulders and preparing him for a Samoan drop, but Joker managed to rake the eyes of his
opponent, allowing him to drop down on his feet and catch the blinded Death with a DDT.
With the champion down on the canvas Joker went to work on Death's legs, delivering a
pair of kneedrops down across the champion's left knee joint. Joker then hooked Death's
legs and prepared to turn him over in a sharpshooter, but Death kicked him off, sending
Joker across the ring into the turnbuckle. Death was slow to pull himself up, using the
ropes to help support himself on his one bad leg. The referee checked in on Death to see
if he was able to continue, but while the ref's back was turned Ponch climbed up on the
ring apron and passed Joker a set of brass knuckles. Joker stayed draped in the corner,
playing possum for his opponent, who slowly made his way over and started to pull Joker
out from buckle. Once Death grabbed Joker the challenge swung around with a loaded
right hand aimed right for the side of the champion's head, but Death ducked out of the
way. The momentum spun Joker all the way around, enabling Death to connect with the
Death Drop out of nowhere!! Death quickly made the cover and scored a surprising three
count.
Wood: Death retains the universal championship, pulling a victory
from the jaws of defeat here against The Joker's Child. Joker can't be happy with this, as
his plan seemingly blew up right in his face. He was in control of the match, but when he
stopped to get the knucks from Ponch he gave up that advantage, and Death capitalized to
score the win.
Brewer: Yeah, who would have ever thought a plan concocted by that Mensa prospect
The Joker's Child would have backfired? It's to the point now where I just assume things
are going to backfire on him. I'm surprised that guy can even dress himself in the morning,
although by looking at his ring attire I guess even that is somewhat in question.
Wood: Up next is the tag team championship match, a match with a lot of questions
surrounding exactly what we will see in this encounter between The Cult and The
Congregation. We know that Masochrist is out of action and will not compete here
tonight, and we also know that there is tension between The Cult as a result of the TV
title match earlier tonight. Even though the odds are two against one, we could well see a
title change in this next match if the champions can not get along. Let's go back to the
ring.
MMP Tag Team Championship Match HARBINGER &
THE DESTROYER (C) vs. THE CONGREGATION
Harbinger and The Destroyer came to the ring first, with some friction
obviously existing between the two holders of the belts. Harbinger seemed a little
agitated, as if he was starting to lose some of the mental stability that he had gained over
the past few weeks, showing some of his old primative characteristics. As the champs
came down the aisle, both Ryno and Masochrist came through the curtain and dropkicked
the Cult members from behind. The crowd was somewhat surprised at the unexpected
appearance of Masochrist, who was not expected to appear due to injury. The challengers
capitalized quickly on their sneak attack, with Ryno diving off the ring steps with a flying
clothesline on Harbinger as Masochrist sent Destroyer into the ring. Once inside, though,
it was Destroyer that quickly took over the match, nailing Maso with a hard elbowsmash
and driving him into the canvas with a facebuster. He then began using his weight to his
advantage to wear down Masochrist, locking the former world champion in a camel
clutch, putting the full pressure down on the Congregation member's back. After a few
moments with the hold applied Destroyer released the hold, stomping Maso's back and
allowing him to slowly make his way to the corner and tag in Ryno. In the meantime
Destroyer also made an exchange, bringing Harbinger into the match for the first time.
Harbinger charged Ryno immediately but it was Ryno taking the advantage just as he had
done on the outside before the bell, catching Harbinger's charge and lifting him high in the
air in a gorilla press slam. Ryno dumped Harbinger over the top rope and out to the floor,
following the man out and slamming him into the rail before rolling Harbinger back in.
Ryno stayed on his man, pulling Harbinger up to his feet, but once Harbinger regained his
vertical base he was able to resort to some of his old tactics, raking viciously at Ryno's
eyes and digging his teeth deep into the man's forehead, dazing Ryno long enough for
Harbinger to make it to the corner and tag Destroyer. The big man came back into the
ring, stepping over the top rope and charging at Ryno as Super Cupid started making his
way towards the ring. Ryno ducked out of the way of a Destroyer clothesline attempt and
made the tag to Masochrist who ran quickly into the ring....and grabbed Ryno by the hair,
kicked him in the back, and delivered the inverted powerbomb!! Super Cupid looked on
approvingly from the outside, laughing as Maso stepped down from the apron and joined
him on the floor. The two original members of The Congregation then left the ring
together and headed back to the dressing room with Destroyer keeping a watchful eye on
both men as they left. Behind Destroyer's back Harbinger rushed into the ring and
covered Ryno for the 1...2...3 to win the match for his team. The rabid man then quickly
slid to the floor, grabbed his tag title belt, and ran back to the dressing room, leaving
Destroyer in the ring with an inquisitive look on his face.
Wood: Harbinger and The Destroyer retain the tag team titles, but the
bigger story here is the split of The Congregation. Masochrist turns his back on Ryno
here tonight and has apparently realligned himself with Super Cupid. Does this mean that
the attack last night was all a ruse? That certainly seems to be the case.
Brewer: It also seems like Masochrist is looking for almost anything to help jumpstart his
career. Since teaming up with Ryno he's gone nowhere, done nothing, but while he was
winning world championships and earning a spot in the Hall of Fame he was working with
Super Cupid. This might not be a bad idea.
Wood: I wonder now if Masochrist will be in New York City tomorrow night to challenge
Destroyer for the TV title. We had expected that match to be cancelled after Maso's
injuries, but now that we know the injuries were bogus...I guess we'll find out tomorrow
night whether or not Masochrist will be wrestling. We go now to the second match in the
survivor's cup competition, the second of two rumbles being held here over the first two
days of this event. The winner here will face The Destroyer tomorrow in the final
round.
SURVIVOR'S CUP RUMBLE
"Controversy" by Prince played over the loudspeaker as Controversy,
the leader of The Beautiful Ones, made his way down towards the ring as the first man to
enter the match. He was accompanied by Lolli Pop, and had the hand puppet of the late
Reverend Bob on his hand. As the group arrived at the ring one of the referees on hand
cut them off, ordering Lolli Pop to return to the dressing room, prompting an argument to
begin between the official and the Bob puppet. Eventually the ref got the last word in and
Lolli left the ring, but not before planting a big kiss right on the lips of the assertive
official. Controversy slid in under the bottom rope and awaited his first opponent, Jo
Roberts. Jo stepped through the ropes and went for Controversy, attacking the man with
a series of right hands. Controversy held his ground, though, firing back with punches of
his own before taking Roberts down with a clothesline. He then started stomping Roberts
in the ribcage as the buzzer sounded to introduce the next man, former MMP tag team
champion Whiplash. Whiplash came running down the aisle and slid into the ring, waiting
for Controversy to turn and face him before delivering his old finishing move, the
Mechanic's Thrust superkick. Controversy went down hard, but before Whiplash could
follow up Jo Roberts was back to his feet and was all over the former titleholder, hitting
him with a forearm to the back as Controversy slithered over the corner, where he sat
avoiding the action. With the strange painted man staying away Whiplash and Roberts
were able to focus their attention on one another, brawling all over the ring until they
came close to the ropes, at which point Controversy jumped to his feet and grabbed both
men by the legs, dumping them both over the top to the floor. The celebration was short
lived as "Atomic Thunder" Wade Grayson then came running towards the ring, sliding in
under the bottom rope and nailing Controversy with a lariat. Grayson pulled Controversy
up and dropped a big elbow across the chest, but he wasn't about to let Controversy have
even a second to regroup. He quickly pulled Controversy up and backed him into the
corner with a series of hard kicks to the body as the buzzer sounded again, bringing John
"The Focus" Ashley to the ring. Ashley hurried down to the ring and joined Grayson in
his attack, double teaming Controversy against the buckle before turning and attacking
Grayson, bringing their brief alliance to an abrupt end. Focus took Grayson to the canvas,
but while he was preoccupied with "Atomic Thunder" Controversy was able to regroup
and rake Ashley across the face, blinding the man long enough for Controversy to pick
him up and toss him over the top to the floor. He then turned back to face Grayson,
nailing the man with a dropkick just as he got back to his feet, putting Grayson right back
to the canvas. The next entrant was Virus Richards, who took his time coming to the
ring, standing on the outside and waiting for his best opportunity before entering the fray.
With Grayson down on the canvas, Virus waited until Controversy's back was turned
before sliding into the ring, nailing the painted man with a spinning heel kick to the back of
the head. He then began kicking Controversy in the ribs, sending him over towards the
ropes. Once by the ring apron Virus began choking Controversy with his boot, pressing
down on the man's throat while pulling down on the top rope for added leverage. The
choke didn't last for long as Grayson was soon back to his feet, interrupting Virus with a
forearm to the back of the head. Grayson whipped Virus across the ring into the
turnbuckle as Guru made his way down. The rapper went right for his longtime rival
Controversy, assaulting the man who had stuffed him into an oven during their last
encounter while Grayson continued to hammer Virus. Grayson then called over to Guru,
who nodded in agreement and pulled Controversy to his feet. Guru whipped Controversy
as Grayson whipped Virus, sending Virus and Controversy right into one another in the
middle of the ring. Both men staggered back and Grayson and Guru joined up to deliver a
double clothesline to Richards, sending him over the top rope to the floor, much to the
delight of the sold out crowd in Baltimore. As Virus hit the floor Controversy was back
into things, attacking Guru from behind and knocking him to the canvas. Hades, the next
entrant, then came running down the aisle and went right after Guru, stomping the man
while Grayson attacked Controversy again, sending the painted man to the corner.
Grayson then turned and attacked Hades while Controversy hid in the corner once again.
The buzzer sounded for the next man to come in and The Cloaked Shroud came running
down the aisle, grabbing Hades right away and tossing him over the top rope to the floor.
On the other side of the ring Grayson was locked up with Guru, slamming Guru to the
canvas but missing with an attempted legdrop. Guru shot up to his feet but was quickly
taken back down by a dropkick, courtesy of Shroud. Daark then came down as the next
entrant and went right after Shroud, nailing Shroud with a clothesline and viciously
stomping the masked man into the canvas while Guru went up to the top rope and drove
Grayson into the canvas with the Bow Down flying bulldog. Again the buzzer went, this
time introducing Aries as the next entrant. As soon as he got into the ring he went right
for Daark, nailing the Cult member with a big boot to the face that sent the man over the
top rope. Daark, though, managed to hang onto the top rope, struggling to keep his feet
from touching the floor. Across the ring The Cloaked Shroud was pulling Controversy
back into the match, dragging the man out from his hiding place in the corner.
Controversy quickly put a stop to that, though, nailing Shroud with a low blow while
Guru pulled Grayson up off the canvas after the Bow Down and tossed "Atomic Thunder"
over the top and out. Controversy followed up the low blow by whipping Shroud into the
ropes, sending him right into Daark, who was pulling himself back into the ring. Daark
was sent to the floor, finally finishing the job that Aries had started. Shroud was dazed,
allowing Controversy to execute a running clothesline that sent Shroud over the top, right
on top of Daark. On the other side of the ring Aries had used his size and strength
advantage to bring Guru down in the corner and was using his huge boot to choke Guru
out. The only other man in the match, Controversy, snuck up on the big man and nailed
him with a low blow, doubling Aries over and causing him to back out from the corner.
The painted man then tried to hoist Aries up and over the top, but Aries' near 400-pound
frame made it a task that proved too difficult for Controversy to do on his own. Guru
soon joined in, though, and together the two relative newcomers were able to eliminate
the Hall of Famer. The two rivals then hooked up once again, trading blows back and
forth as The Joker's Child made his way out, complaining to the referees about a supposed
injured ankle and refusing to get into the ring right away. He waited until both
Controversy and Guru had their back to him to slide into the ring, and when he did he ran
at both men with a double clothesline, sending them both over the top to the floor, leaving
Joker as the only man in the ring. He paraded around the ring gloating over his
accomplishment for the next few seconds as he waited for his next opponent, who turned
out to be the MMP universal champion, Death. Death ran to the ring immediately and slid
in after the man he had defeated earlier on the card, prompting Joker to roll out under the
bottom rope on the other side. Death soon followed, chasing Joker around the ring until
Joker grabbed a chair as he turned the corner and spun around quickly to slam the chair
over the universal champ's head. Death hit the floor hard and Joker pulled him up right
away, sending him back into the ring. Joker followed right away and began stomping
Death repeatedly as the former MMP world champion, The Bootlegger, made his way out.
The Italian was slow in coming to the ring, but once he made it through the ropes he went
right after Joker. He grabbed Joker by the back of the head, but Joker shot his leg back
and caught Bootlegger with a surprise low blow, enabling Joker to grab Bootlegger by the
hair and fling him over the top to the floor. The Bootlegger distraction allowed Death the
opportunity to get back to his feet, and once he was up he went right to work on Joker,
nailing Joker with a series of chops to the chest that backed the man into the corner.
"Amazing" Andrew Peters then came running out, joining Death in his attack on Joker
against the buckle. The midwestern champion pulled Joker out and took him over with a
double arm suplex as Soul Crusher, the next man in, came out to the ring. The former TV
and midwestern champion's entrance was cut off by Death, who stomped the man
repeatedly before he could even get up to his feet for the first time. Death then pulled
Soul Crusher to his feet and whipped him across the ring towards Peters, who
backdropped Soul Crusher over the top to the floor, making a short night's work for the
German. Death and Peters then turned back to Joker, again double teaming the clown in
the corner. Joker tried to escape under the bottom rope once again, but this time he
wasn't able to do it as Death and Peters both struggled to keep him in the ring and not let
him catch his breath. The next man to enter was Spade, a former MMP competitor
attempting to make a comeback into the federation. Spade came in and went right for
Peters, hitting the man with several forearm shots to the back. Death cut the attack short,
though, flooring Spade with a big clothesline. The distraction allowed Joker to roll out
under the bottom rope to the floor, where Ponch passed him a pair over oversized clown
shoes. Joker then slid back in where Death was eliminating Spade over the top and hit
Death in the back of the head with the heel of one of the shoes. He then turned and nailed
Peters with the other shoe as Benjamin Childs made his way to the ring. Childs kept his
eyes focused on Peters as Joker caught Death with a DDT, and once Peters was up Childs
nailed him with a superkick, sending the midwestern champion over the top rope. Peters
managed to hold onto the ropes, though, keeping himself from being eliminated. Joker
then turned away from Death and went after Childs, but the big man from New Orleans
caught Joker with a big boot to the face, sending the clown over the top to the floor.
Entrant #19 was then buzzed in and Annie Christ, one half of The Raggedy Annes, slowly
made his way down the aisle. Back in the ring Childs turned his attention to Death,
pulling the man up and lifting him in a gorilla press slam. Peters climbed back into the ring
as Annie Christ stepped through the ropes on the other side, and before Childs could slam
Death to the canvas Peters ran over and took him down with a chop block. The final
buzzer then sounded and the last entrant, Harbinger, came to the ring. Harbinger ran
down the aisle and immediately climbed to the top rope, diving off with a flying bodypress
that was caught by Annie Christ. Annie turned and prepared to powerslam Harbinger
right in the middle of the ring, but before he could slam him down Andrew Peters
delivered a dropkick to the back of Harbinger, sending both Annie and Harbinger over the
top, leaving Peters, Death, and Childs as the final three men in the ring. Childs, though,
was down on the canvas favoring his knee, which had been taken out by Peters moments
earlier. Peters went back to work on Childs, kicking him in the legs and back while Childs
was down on his side. Death soon joined in, creating a two on one situation against
Benjamin Childs. Peters then pulled Childs to his feet and whipped him towards the ropes,
with Peters and Death going for a double clothesline as Childs came back. Childs ducked
out of the way, though, and the momentum carried both Death and Peters towards the
ropes. Childs turned and went right for them, going for another superkick at Peters. This
time, though, the kick missed, and Childs straddled himself on the top rope. From there
he was easy pickings, and a short clothesline from Death sent Childs to the floor. Peters
stood back and waited for Death to turn around, and when he did he charged with a
clothesline. Death, though, saw him coming and countered Peters' charge with a
backdrop, sending him over the top rope to the floor to win the match.
Wood: Death has won the second survivor's cup rumble! Death will
now go on to the finals of the competition tomorrow night in New York City, where he
will face his former Cult ally, The Destroyer inside Hell in a Cell.
Brewer: It's going to be a battle of two big men tomorrow night, but they don't come any
bigger than Destroyer, a man who has been in this position before. He came close to
capturing the championship last year, but a controversial finish in St. Louis a year ago may
have cost him that opportunity. The advantage, though, may well lie with Death. As of
right now The Destroyer is scheduled for two championship matches tomorrow, while
Death is only set for one. Destroyer would have to win three matches tomorrow night to
win this competition, and I don't see any way that can be done. It's looking to me like
Death is going to be the mandatory challenger for the MMP world championship at Chaos
on the Coast.
Wood: That's right, as we have stated whoever wins the survivor's cup competition will
receive an MMP world title match at our next PPV event, and as we speak the man who
will be defending the title that night will be the new MMP world champion, Psychotic
Sam. Sam captured the title last night from The Bootlegger, but he's going to have to pull
off another top notch performance if he hopes to make it to New York City tomorrow
night against The Cult Master. Virus Richards wants the world title back, and many have
suggested that the only reason he has befriended Psychotic Sam lately was so that he
could create for himself, in his own mind, an easier path to getting the title back. Of
course, with the fragile mental state that Sam is in, who knows what kind of arrangement
these two might have worked out. One thing is for sure, though, and that is that it's time
for our main event here in Baltimore!!
MMP World Championship Match PSYCHOTIC SAM (C)
vs. VIRUS RICHARDS
With Virus already waiting in the ring, the new MMP world champion
made his way down the aisle accompanied by Havoc, Mr. Beumont, and Mike the Giant
Retard. Once the group was in the ring Havoc demanded the mic and thanked Virus not
only for getting Sam his title shot in the first place but also for warning them about the
impending invasion by Aries and the Greek forces. Virus nodded approvingly with a smug
look on his face, but that expression was quickly wiped off as Sam jumped him from
behind, nailing Virus with a bulldog headlock. The referee, caught off guard by Sam's
preemptive strike, quickly called for the bell as Sam began raking his long fingernails along
Virus' back. Virus stumbled up to his feet and Sam charged in with a clothesline, sending
both men over the top rope and out to the floor. Havoc and Beumont moved closer to get
a better view of the action but the referee was quick to jump to the outside, stepping in
front of the Family members and ordering them to stay back. The official also
inadvertently distracted Sam's attention, allowing Virus to grab Sam in a waistlock and
pull him forward into the steel ring post. Sam's head hit hard and he stayed draped against
the post as Virus pulled himself to his feet. Once Virus was up he wound up and aimed a
superkick right for the back of Sam's head, but the champion moved out of the way and
Virus' foot hit flush against the steel post. The challenger immediately collapsed to the
floor, clutching his ankle and foot in obvious agony, as if he had suffered a sprain or
possibly worse. Sam took full advantage, grabbing Harold the Fish away from Mike and
slamming it down into Virus' back while the referee was preoccupied with the other
Family members. The champion then slammed Virus into the steps before sending him in,
and after he had followed the ref got right in Sam's face, ordering him to keep the match in
the ring or risk being disqualified. Virus took advantage of the distraction once again,
picking Sam's leg up and taking him down with a dragon screw legwhip. He then drove
an elbow down across Sam's knee before bouncing off the ropes and delivering a
springboard legdrop. The legdrop, though, proved to be a mistake, as Virus landed flush
on his injured ankle. As a result Virus was slow getting up, and Sam was even able to
make it to his feet first. He pulled Virus up and nailed a piledriver, but was only able to
get a two count before the challenger kicked out. Again Sam pulled Virus up, but this
time Virus had a counter, kicking Sam hard in the shins to stagger him before delivering a
leaping DDT. With Sam laid out Virus slowly made his way towards the corner and
started to climb the turnbuckle, heading up to the top for the frog splash. Just then Mr.
Beumont slid into the ring, enthusiastically telling the referee that he had found some
quarters on the outside of the ring. While the ref had his back turned Havoc climbed up
on the apron with Marbels the Cat in hand and nailed Virus across the back, sending Virus
off the top rope right into Sam, who caught him coming down with an inverted atomic
drop. Virus was dazed, allowing Sam to connect with the Psychotic Smash! Sam then
made the cover and hooked the leg, and once Beumont left the ring the ref turned around
and counted the 1...2...3, enabling Sam to retain the title. Mike the Giant Retard reached
in and pulled Virus to the floor and Havoc presented Sam with his world title belt as the
scene fades to black.
MMP WrestleFest 2000 is on the air! More than 20, 000 fans are
jammed into Madison Square Garden in New York City for tonight's mega event.
Commentators Jerry Wood and Ray Brewer are at ringside.
Wood: Welcome, everyone, to day three of WrestleFest 2000! I'm
Jerry Wood alongside Ray Brewer here at Madison Square Garden for the final day of this
huge event. All six championship series will conclude here tonight, setting out the
landscape for what promises to be a huge summer of competition here in the
MMP.
Brewer: We've also got the final match in the survivor's cup competition set to go here
tonight. If you look above the ring you'll see two large structures. One is the gigantic
house of glass which will enclose Masked Man X and Benjamin Childs in their battle for
the extreme championship, and the other is the ominous Hell in a Cell in which The
Destroyer and Death will do battle for the number one contender's spot for the MMP
world championship.
Wood: The winner of The Destroyer vs. Death will go on to Chaos on the Coast where he
will face the winner of tonight's main event for the world heavyweight championship.
Psychotic Sam, who has been on a hell of a roll this week defeating The Bootlegger and
Virus Richards on back to back days, will attempt to do the unthinkable and run the entire
gauntlet of the world title contenders as he faces The Cult Master. Many people feel that
this is The Cult Master's time, but with the run that Sam has been on over the past couple
of days there may not be anyone in the MMP who can top him. We had been scheduled to
open tonight's event with the final round of the TV title series, but we have just received
word that Masochrist is not in the building and has officially forfeited his match with
Destroyer, so instead we kick things off with the final round of the midwestern
championship series as "Amazing" Andrew Peters looks to complete the sweep tonight
when he faces Aries. Let's go to the ring here at MSG!
MMP Midwestern Championship Match "AMAZING"
ANDREW PETERS (C) vs. ARIES
Peters and Amanda came out first, both with confident expressions on
their face. The champion stepped through the ropes where his valet removed his robe as
Aries came to the ring, accompanied by his brother Hades. As soon as Aries stepped
through the ropes Peters walked over and slapped him right across the face, prompting the
big man to chase Peters all the way to the outside. The champion ran as fast as he could
to get away from the mighty challenger, circling the ring twice before sliding back in under
the bottom rope. Aries followed quickly, but was met with a hard chop block to the back
of the knee as soon as he regained his vertical base. Peters focused much of his offense on
the leg of Aries, stomping ferociously down on the man's knee before dragging him over
to the corner and applying a figure four leglock. When the referee got over to ask Aries if
he wanted to give it up Peters reached back and grabbed the bottom rope, putting
additional pressure on the legs of his challenger. The official finally saw what was
happening and ordered Peters to break the hold, but the damage had apparently been
done. Aries was slow in getting to his feet, much to the delight of Peters, who laughed
just slightly as his adversary struggled. Once Aries was up Peters grabbed him in a
waistlock and attempted a belly to belly suplex, but Aries used a forearm shot to the head
to thwart Peters' attempt before taking the champion over with a suplex of his own.
Peters looked stunned as he stumbled back to his feet, retreating into the ropes where
Aries finally caught up to him again. The big man whipped Peters off the ropes, catching
him on the rebound with a big boot to the face that dropped the champion abruptly to the
canvas. Aries was starting to build some momentum, but Peters would have none of it.
After the boot dropped him he rolled out under the bottom rope to the floor and quickly
walked over to the timekeeper's table. He grabbed his championship belt and took off up
the aisle, leaving Aries in the ring standing beside the referee, who started to administer his
count. Ten seconds later Peters had been counted out, giving the win but not the title to
Aries.
Wood: Aries is your winner in the opening bout here at Madison
Square Garden, but Andrew Peters is still the midwestern champion as a result of the
count out. If I didn't know better, I'd say Peters was afraid to back up his words and stand
in there and duke it out with Aries here tonight. A little surprising if you consider all the
trash Peters has talked with Aries over the past few weeks.
Brewer: Is it, though? Think about it, Wood. Over the past two days Andrew Peters has
had to face both Controversy and The Cloaked Shroud and he's been in the rumbles,
compared to Aries who has only been through the survivor's cup so far. I'm sure Peters
will be looking for a chance to take Aries on, but only on an even playing field.
Wood: But if Peters were truly the greatest midwestern champion of all time like he
claims, wouldn't he be willing to stay in there and fight it out to the end? I don't think he
wants any part of Aries, and I think he proved that here tonight. The final match in the
universal championship series is up next as Death looks to become the third of three
champions to defend tonight to survive this event with their reigns intact. He'll have a
tough challenge in his path, in the form his former tag team partner, Daark from The
Cult.
MMP Universal Championship Match DEATH (C) vs.
DAARK
Death went right after Daark from the opening bell, driving a big knee
into his opponent's midsection as soon as the match started. A pair of European uppercuts
backed Daark into the corner and Death whipped him across the ring, slamming him hard
against the far buckle. Death followed him in, nailing Daark with a clothesline in the
corner. The former world champion stumbled out and walked right into Death, who
scooped the man up and delivered a powerslam followed by a legdrop. Death then pulled
Daark up and took him over with a belly to belly suplex, which was the lead in to the
Death Drop. After driving Daark down with his patented finisher Death floated over and
made the cover, scoring the 1...2...3 to take the match.
Wood: Death is your winner, making the champions 3 for 3 here
tonight at MSG in terms of retaining their belts. Daark didn't put up much of a fight
tonight. I can only assume he's still feeling the effects of that long layoff he went on after
losing the world title to Virus Richards back in February.
Brewer: And the good news for Death coming out of this match is that he was able to get
it over with shortly. This means he'll now be relatively fresh for his match with Destroyer
later tonight while Destroyer still has a tag team championship match to go through before
he gets to the survivor's cup final.
Wood: And that tag title match is coming up next. Harbinger and The Destroyer, who
seem to be hanging onto their cohesiveness by a threat after that TV title "match"
yesterday, will face the toughest challenge of their current reign as they prepare to do
battle with the new duo of Masked Man X and The Cloaked Shroud, known collectively
as The Front Line.
MMP Tag Team Championship Match HARBINGER &
THE DESTROYER (C) vs. THE FRONT LINE
The challengers made their way to the ring first, accompanied by both
Lady Enigma and Mighty Midget. They didn't have to wait long for their opponents to
appear...at least, for one of their opponents to appear. Even before The Cult's music
could play Harbinger came running out from the dressing room and slid into the ring, right
at the feet of his opponents. The Destroyer slowly stalked to the ring as Masked Man X
stomped Harbinger in the early moments of the match. MMX pulled Harbinger to his feet
and whipped him across the ring into the far corner where he began ramming shoulders
into the Cult member's midsection. MMX's assault was cut short though when Destroyer
arrived at the ring, as the big man went right for the man who ended his most recent
extreme title reign and tossed MMX clear across the ring. The official struggled to gain
control of the match, finally sending Harbinger to the outside and getting the action in the
ring down to one on one. Destroyer had been waiting for a long time to get his hands on
MMX and it showed as the big man pounded the masked man viciously with repeated
right hands, backing MMX into the turnbuckle. After slamming MMX's head into the
buckle a few times Destroyer whipped him across the ring into the far corner, but MMX
reversed the whip and caught Destroyer with a short clothesline. The big man went down
hard, allowing MMX the time he needed to make a tag. Shroud quickly stepped through
the ropes and joined MMX in a double team effort, but the referee was equally as fast in
stepping in to usher MMX to the outside, keeping it a one on one scenario. Shroud pulled
Destroyer up, a move which proved to be a mistake as the big man immediately smashed
the point of his elbow right into Shroud's masked face. The TV champ then dragged
Shroud over to his corner where he tagged in Harbinger, who started biting Shroud across
the bridge of the nose as Destroyer held his opponent's arms back. Seeing his partner
being double teamed MMX came running into the ring and jumped on Destroyer, pulling
him over to the other side of the ring and allowing Shroud to take over on Harbinger.
Shroud delivered a European uppercut that snapped Harbinger's head back against the
buckle, and then whipped him across the ring into the far corner. He followed in with an
avalanche but Harbinger moved out of the way, sending Shroud hard into the buckle as
Destroyer clotheslined MMX out of the ring. Shroud stumbled backwards and Destroyer
grabbed his tag team partner, sending Harbinger into Shroud with an inverted powerbomb
type manuever. Harbinger landed in a pinning position and hooked the leg for the 1...2...3
to retain the titles for his team as Destroyer stalked MMX on the outside. The two men
traded blows out on the floor but Harbinger was more concerned with his title belt,
snatching it from the timekeeper and running back to the dressing room, leaving his
partner brawling with MMX on the outside of the ring. Destroyer finally slammed MMX
into the rail before heading back to the dressing room himself. The Cloaked Shroud rolled
out of the ring to help his partner as the giant house of glass that was hanging from the
ceiling to the right of the ring began to move into position around the squared circle. A
new official came running out and instructed Shroud, Mighty Midget, and Lady Enigma to
move to the side. The glass cube hovered ten feet above the ring as Benjamin Childs made
his way out, carrying his barbed wire chair from the weapon of choice match on May 30.
Childs then reached under the ring and pulled out a table wrapped in barbed wire,
symbolic of the table he had used to defeat The Ryno on May 31 to make it to this final
match. He set the table up in the aisle and stepped into the ring. The house of glass
lowered all the way to the ground, trapping both MMX and Childs on the inside. The
extreme championship was set to be decided.
MMP Extreme Championship House of Glass
Match MASKED MAN X vs. BENJAMIN CHILDS
Once the house of glass was in place Childs went right for MMX, who
was clearly still feeling the effects of the tag title match. Childs wasn't about to give
MMX a chance to regroup, delivering a quick shot to the body and connecting with an
uppercut using the barbed wire chair. MMX went flying back, leaving him flat on the
canvas at the mercy of his opponent. Childs then jumped out to the floor and reached
under the ring where he pulled out a small blue sack. Rolling back into the ring Childs
opened the sack and dumped out it's contents...hundreds upon hundreds of thumbtacks.
MMX slowly pulled himself up with the aid of the ropes, but when he turned around he
walked right into Childs, who took MMX down with a full nelson face slam right down
onto the thumbtacks! Childs probably could have gone for a cover right there, but instead
he pulled MMX up and delivered the Childs Play running powerbomb right over the top
rope into the house of glass, shattering the glass and sending MMX all the way out into
the aisle!!! The crowd errupted at the sight of the shattering cube, and Childs climbed out
of the ring and down to the floor. With MMX lying on a pile of broken glass in the
runway Childs made the cover and the ref counted the 1...2...3, giving Childs the win and
the extreme title.
Wood: Benjamin Childs has done the impossible! He has come all the
way from day one in Seattle to here tonight, day three in Madison Square Garden, and
captured the MMP extreme championship for the second time in his career. To be able to
win three unique hardcore matches on consecutive days like Childs has done here at
WrestleFest is unprecedented. My hat is off to the new MMP extreme
champion.
Brewer: Well my hat is staying right where it is, Wood. The first two matches Childs won
simply by delivering regular wrestling moves at a time when a foreign object was in the
way, and tonight he wins a championship by beating a man who was just coming off
another title match without rest? One three count out of three matches makes a
champion? Not in my world, Wood.
Wood: Your disdain towards hardcore wrestling aside, you have to admit that it takes a
great deal of courage and a load of ability to be able to make it through any three matches
agaisnt opposition the calibre of Crimson, Ryno, and MMX. Benjamin Childs is indeed a
champion, and he deserves every bit of that prestige. We're moving right along here in
New York City, and the time has come for the final match in the survivor's cup
competition. This challenge started out with forty MMP superstars past and present
battling for a shot at the MMP world championship. That competition has boiled down to
two, and those two men will do battle inside the Hell in a Cell that is lowering around the
ring as we speak. The MMP universal champion, Death, will take on the man who is still
TV champion and who is still one half of the MMP tag team champions, The Destroyer.
The winner goes on to Chaos on the Coast for a shot at the big prize.
Survivor's Cup Final Hell in a Cell THE DESTROYER
vs. DEATH
Death stood patiently in the corner of the ring with his universal title
belt wrapped firmly around his waist as The Destroyer made his way down. Destroyer
was wearing both his tag team and TV title belts, and had two very dangerous weapons in
his hands. In one hand was a full length mirror, the type used in Destroyer's well known
vanity matches, and in the other was a simple cheese grater, an object Destroyer had been
known to use against his opponents on several occasions in the past. The big man set the
mirror in the corner as the cell door was locked behind him, but it was Death getting the
early upper hand, attacking Destroyer even before the bell. The universal champion laid
into Destroyer with a series of hard right hands and chops to the chest, even connecting
with a kick to the midsection, but it had little effect on the big man who responded simply
with a hard knee to the midsection that sent Death staggering back. Death moved in again
but was caught by a second kneelift, which Destroyer quickly followed up with a
facebuster, slamming Death down hard into the canvas. The big man then made his first
move for a weapon, grabbing his cheese grater and raking it down across the back of
Death, whose screams of agony could be heard throughout the arena. The official tried to
get Destroyer to lose the grater, but since this was a no disqualification match, the
referee's pleadings fell on deaf ears. The big man then pulled Death up to his feet and
whipped him across the ring towards the mirror, but Death was able to reverse the whip,
sending the big man into the mirror with such force that it shattered the glass, sending
pieces flying all over the ring. Destroyer stumbled back towards Death, who delivered a
standing dropkick that sent Destroyer through the ropes and out to the floor. Death was
starting to get his second wind, and the crowd was beginning to rally behind him, cheering
loudly as Death climbed to the top rope. With the aid of the cage Destroyer pulled himself
up on the outside, but when he turned to look for his opponent Death came flying off the
top with a missile dropkick, sending Destroyer falling back into the cage. After raking
Destroyer's face across the chain link wall of the cell Death rolled the man back into the
ring where he delivered a crushing piledriver. The universal champ made the cover, but
Destroyer kicked out after only a two count. Death didn't let up, though, bouncing off the
ropes and delivering a running elbowdrop before Destroyer could regain his vertical base.
He dropped a second such elbow and then went for another cover, but again Destroyer
was able to kick out. It was clear that Death was becoming frustrated, although he stayed
on the big man without giving him much chance to regroup. He pulled Destroyer to his
feet, but the big man fought Death off with a hard kick to the midsection, which
surprisingly dropped Death to the canvas clutching his body in pain. A close up on
Destroyer revealed the reason...he was wearing steel toed boots! Again the referee was
powerless to do anything about Destroyer's weapon use, and the big man took full
advantage of the situation. He pulled Death to his feet and lifted him in a gorilla press
slam, sending him over the top rope and out into the cage! The brutal style of Destroyer
seemed to be winning him some support from the New York crowd, as more and more
cheers started to come out as the big man rolled Death back into the ring. The TV champ
didn't pay any attention to the fans, though, as he dragged Death over towards the biggest
pile of broken glass that had clustered as a result of the shattered mirror. He lifted Death
up in position for a powerbomb, but the universal champion managed to roll through and
land on his feet. A quick shot to the midsection dazed Destroyer, allowing Death to
deliver the Death Drop right on the glass!! Both men were down, lying winded on the
glass as the referee began his ten count. After only a count of four Death managed to
lunge over and drape an arm across Destroyer, covering him for the 1...2...Destroyer got a
shoulder up! The crowd, which by this point was on it's feet, let out a loud exhale as
Destroyer broke up the pin. Death, however, was more angry than anything else.
Frustration finally got the better of him as he grabbed the referee by the shirt and screamed
about the speed of the count, inadvertently giving Destroyer a chance to get to his feet.
The big man slowly walked up on Death from behind and delivered a roundhouse kick to
the back with the steel toed boots, followed by a back suplex that dropped Death right on
the back of his head on the pile of glass. Without missing a beat Destroyer pulled Death in
and applied the Will Breaker, which caused the New York fans to errupt! It wasn't long
before Death tapped out, giving Destroyer the victory and the survivor's cup
championship.
Wood: Ladies and gentlemen this is unprecedented!! The Destroyer
has just captured the survivor's cup championship, capping off an unbelievable 8-0 run
here at WrestleFest 2000! TV champion, tag team champion, and now the number one
contender for the MMP world championship...I would say this man has proven that last
year was no fluke.
Brewer: I don't think anyone ever thought that last year was a fluke. When you're built
like Destroyer is you have a huge advantage over each and every opponent you go in the
ring with. Not only does his size give him a near insurmountable physical edge, but it goes
a great distance in psyching out your opponent. No one could bring him down here at
WrestleFest, and there may be no stopping him from capturing the MMP world
title.
Wood: Well we know that Destroyer will get a crack at the gold coming up next month at
Chaos on the Coast...the only question that remains is who he will face. As we speak the
champion is Psychotic Sam, a man who had been demanding a world title shot for well
over a year coming into this event. He finally got that opportunity on May 30, and he
walked away as champion, defeating The Bootlegger. Last night he made his first defense
and knocked off another former champion in Virus Richards. Tonight, thought, it's a
whole new story. For months The Cult Master has spoke of his ascention, and he has
claimed that it will come about here tonight at Madison Square Garden. The MMP world
championship is at stake here in the featured bout at WrestleFest 2000!!!!
MMP World Championship Match PSYCHOTIC SAM (C)
vs. THE CULT MASTER
The reigning world champion came to the ring first, accompanied by
Virus Richards and The Family. The Cult Master's music then began to play over the
loudspeaker and the leader of The Cult came down the aisle, surrounded by Harbinger,
The Destroyer, and a flock of hooded minions larger than had ever been seen before at an
MMP event. The entrance ceremony continued for quite some time, irritating Sam's entire
camp, especially Richards, prompting Virus to go up to Sam (who by this time was sitting
in the corner rocking back and forth uncontrollably) and tell him that Cult Master was
planning to assassinate Sam in order to ascend to the throne as the new king of Spain.
Sam immediately flew into a rage and interrupted Cult Master's entrance, jumping on the
challenger's back and digging his teeth deep into Cult Master's shoulder. Cult Master was
able to use his size to his advantage and easily overpower Sam, snapping him over his
shoulder and down to the canvas, but Sam was relentless. He came running back at Cult
Master again, this time jumping down hard on the challenger's foot. As Cult Master
hobbled around the ring Sam grabbed him and took him over with a vertical suplex. Sam
then ran off the ropes, and once Cult Master was to his feet Sam nailed him with a flying
bodypress. He hooked Cult Master's legs in an early pin attempt, but Sam only got a two
count before Cult Master tossed him aside. Sam stayed on the man, though, grabbing Cult
Master and whipping him across the ring toward the corner. Cult Master reversed the
whip and sent Sam to the buckle instead, following in immediately with a running
clothesline that crushed Sam against the corner. Sam fell face first to the canvas, allowing
Cult Master to remove the padding from the top turnbuckle, exposing the steel
underneath. He then turned back to Sam, pulling the man up and delivering a DDT before
going for his first attempted pinfall. Just as was the case with Sam earlier Cult Master
managed only a two count before his opponent kicked out, prompting Cult Master to grab
Sam by the hair and slam his head repeatedly off the canvas out of frustration. The
challenger was persistent, though, and kept focused on his attack. He rolled Sam over
onto his stomach and drove a series of knees hard into the small of Sam's back, and then
pulled Sam to his feet and whipped him off the far side ropes. Cult Master went for a
clothesline as Sam came back but the world champion ducked out of the way, turning on
the spot and nailing Cult Master with a clothesline of his own, sending the challenger over
the top rope to the floor. As Cult Master struggled to his feet on the outside Sam
slingshot himself over the top rope, nailing the challenger with another flying bodypress.
Sam made a cover on the floor and yelled at the referee to count, forcing Havoc to explain
to Sam that this was not a falls count anywhere match and that the pin had to happen in
the ring. This didn't sit well with the champion, who started mumbling to himself as he
rolled back into the ring. Again Virus got involved in the match, grabbing Sam by the
ankle and telling him that the only reason the ref didn't count the pin on the floor was
because he was one of Cult Master's workers helping him try to overthrow Sam's regime.
This sent Sam into a rage, and the champion ran right over to the referee demanding an
explanation while Cult Master was getting back into the ring. The challenger came up on
Sam from behind but Sam saw him in time. He turned and lunged at Cult Master with a
jump kick, which was ducked and countered by a Cult Master kick to the midsection.
With Sam doubled over Cult Master hooked the champion and delivered a fisherman
buster, driving Sam's head into the canvas while at the same time rolling him into a pinning
position. The referee got down and counted the 1...2...Sam kicked out at the last minute,
bringing a shocked expression to Cult Master's face. Cult Master knew Sam was ready to
be put away and he pulled the champion up one last time, but out of nowhere Sam reached
up and applied a mandible claw!! The challenger tried to fight Sam off, but it wasn't doing
him any good. Slowly but surely Sam drove Cult Master down to the canvas with the
mandible claw until finally the challenger was down flat on the mat. Sam then released
the hold, but rather than going for the cover right away he stopped to shout at both Cult
Master and the referee about having defeated the rebels, proclaiming that he was the one
true king. Once his tirade was over Sam pulled Cult Master up and set him up for the
Psychotic Smash, but the challenger fought back with one final charge, blocking the DDT
and pushing forward, driving Sam hard into the corner...the very turnbuckle that had been
exposed earlier when Cult Master removed the cornerpad! The steel bolt was driven right
into Sam's upper back, causing him to release his grip on Cult Master. The challenger
followed up quickly, driving his shoulder into Sam's midsection to take the wind out of
him before hoisting him up to the top rope. Cult Master climbed up after Sam and lifted
him high in the air, jumping off and driving Sam down hard with the Final Prayer!! He
floated over and hooked the leg for the 1...2...3 to capture the title. Once The Family left
the area the ring slowly began to fill with Cult minions, all elated to be present at their
leader's great moment. As the final minions entered the ring, though, the lights in the
arena went out. After a few moments a spotlight came down on a lone piper in the
walkway playing "Scotland the Brave". As the crowd began to stir in anticipation of what
would happen next, the light faded out and a second light appeared, this time shining
down on The Cult Master in the middle of the ring, holding his newly won MMP world
championship belt. Finally a third light came down, this time on the entrance way,
highlighting the returning former MMP world champion and MMP Hall of Famer Captain
Patrick O'Conner!!! A look of utter shock across the face of Cult Master was countered
with a stern glare from O'Conner, an image which the cameras focused on as the scene
fades to black.
