Saturday Night Slams '99 08/21

Outside the arena, the cameras spot The Joker's Child and Ponch arriving for tonight's show. They get out of the car and head towards the entrance, where tonight Joker will defend the tag team titles. As the duo gets to the door, Hyoga comes out from around the corner and shatters a plane of glass over Joker's head! He pulls Joker up and nails a DDT on the pavement, kicks the leader of The Family in the ribs, and walks into the building, leaving Ponch to help Joker up.

MMP Saturday Night Slams is on the air! The MMP Coliseum is sold out in anticipation of tonight's event. Commentators Jerry Wood and Ray Brewer are at ringside.

Wood: Welcome, everyone, to MMP Saturday Night Slams! I'm Jerry Wood alongside Ray Brewer where tonight we will see three big championship matches only days away from the Apocalypse PPV in Flushing, NY, but not to be outdone, we have a big main event pitting The Untouchables against The Cult when The Ryno, a man who will finally get another shot at The Bootlegger coming up this Wednesday, goes one on one against the enigmatic Daark.

Brewer: The feud between those two factions has grown considerably over the past couple of weeks. What used to be an issue between O'Conner and The Cult Master has escalated into a heated rivalry with other members of both stables getting involved verbally with one another over the past week or so. Both Ryno and Daark have huge matches coming up on the PPV. One man will go in with momentum in his favor, while the other will have to regroup in a very short time before we head to Shea Stadium for our next big event.

Wood: But that is only the tip of the iceberg of what's on tap here this evening. The much anticipated match between Steve Simon and the only man ever to defeat him in singles competition, Psychotic Sam, is also on the lineup tonight. This time, the TV title hangs in the balance. Many other top stars are in the building including Virus Richards, The Joker's Child, and The Regulator, so let's get right to the ring for our opening bout.

HOT CRIMSON vs. PERRY SANDERS

Hot Crimson came to the ring first, accompanied as always by his manager Cup. Sanders' music then hit and "The Avenger" came in through the crowd, sliding into the ring behind Crimson and tearing right into the man from the opening bell. A flurry of punches caught Crimson off guard and backed him into a corner where Perry pounded him repeatedly about the head. Backing off momentarily, Perry then nailed Crimson with a dropkick against the turnbuckle. Things were clearly going Perry's way in the early going, something that couldn't be said about the Oakland native very often over the past few months. As the match progressed, Dr. No Limit made his way to ringside, flanked by Zane and Charles. The three men stood quietly in the corner, not getting involved in the match. After picking Crimson up and delivering a bodyslam, Sanders ran the ropes, using the middle rope as a springboard into a moonsault, but Crimson got his knees up, catching Sanders squarely in the ribcage as he landed. This gave Crimson a chance to get his second wind and after using the ropes to pull himself back up, he delivered a pair of kneedrops to the injured midsection of his opponent. Crimson then took over the match, going to the top rope and hitting a frog splash before slapping on a dragon sleeper. With Crimson pulling back with extra pressure on the neck, Sanders squirmed towards the ropes, trying desperately to force the break. When the ropes were out of his reach, Sanders had to resort to desperate measures, reaching up and raking Crimson's eyes to get out of the painful hold. Pulling himself up quickly, Perry waited for Crimson to shake it off before taking him over with a huracanrana. Grabbing Crimson by the leg, Perry dragged him to the corner where he tied his opponent upside down against the buckle in a tree of woe. With Crimson subdued, Perry nailed a series of kicks to the ribcage that knocked the wind out of his opponent. Perry then hit a dropkick to the kneejoint of Crimson before releasing him from the corner and applying a stepover toehold, but when he reached down to apply more pressure, Crimson reached up and rolled Sanders into a small package to score the 1...2...Perry kicks out! Jumping to his feet after the near fall, Sanders quickly went for a clothesline, but Crimson ducked, catching Sanders with a swinging neckbreaker. With Perry down, Crimson didn't give him a chance to recover and quickly applied a sharpshooter. Things looked bleak for Perry, but moments after the hold was put on, Mute ran down to the ring. While DNL, Zane, and Charles looked on in confusion, Mute slid in under the bottom rope and nailed Crimson with a DDT, causing the referee to ring the bell, awarding the match to Hot Crimson via disqualification. Mute pulled Crimson up and slammed him into the turnbuckle, but Crimson soon regained his senses and started trading blows with the former Untouchable. The two men battled out of the ring, through the stands, all the way out to an alley in behind the MMP Coliseum while DNL helped Perry Sanders out of the ring and back to the locker room.

The cameras then cut to a shot outside the arena, where the braw between Mute and Hot Crimson continued, with the two men using everything from discarded broomsticks to trash can lids to battle one another. The next shot showed The Regulator arriving at the arena for his match tonight against Mute. After stopping for a moment to see what the disturbance was out back, he turned and started back towards the entrance when suddenly a familiar looking beaten up old Pinto came speeding up and rammed into Regulator from behind. As expected, the CWO poured out from the automobile and started assaulting the man they had pursued for the past week. Mr. Beumont ordered them to back off and pulled out a can of spray paint, painting the letters CMO on Cooper's back. While China Town Lee berated Beumont for writing the "W" upside down, Regulator started to pull himself up. Seeing that Cooper was moving, the CWO quickly got back into the car and drove away, leaving Welfare William behind. Reg grabbed William and slammed him into the arena wall before walking inside, clutching his back in pain.

Wood: It looks like the wrestlers aren't holding anything back here tonight. We've already seen an attack by Hyoga on The Joker's Child, and now an ambush of sorts on The Regulator by the CWO. Hot Crimson and Mute continue to fight it out on the outside we are told, and just moments ago we received word that The Cult is going to join us a little later on with some form of commemorative ceremony. What else could come here tonight?

Brewer: It really looked like Hot Crimson was about to finish off Perry Sanders when Mute made his appearance, bringing about the DQ on Perry. I'm a little surprised that DNL and the boys would let Mute get by. I'm guessing that it must tie into their former assocation in The Untouchables, or maybe DNL knew that Mute was coming for Crimson and not Sanders. Based on what happened last week, it would have been a fair assumption.

Wood: So Hot Crimson picks up the victory, not exactly how he would have liked but a win nonetheless as he heads into the Apocalypse to face Steve Simon for the TV title, which will be on the line later on this evening when Simon takes on Psychotic Sam. Up next is a return match from a contest that took place a little over a month ago. Masked Man X defeated Mack in his first defense of the TV belt back in July and now, just four days before his career will be on the line against Big Daddy Cash, Mack tries to avenge that defeat. Let's go to the ring.

MASKED MAN X vs. MACK

The former TV champ was introduced first, coming to the ring with Mighty Midget and The Fighting Heroes as red, white, and blue fireworks went off in the background. Mack then made his way out with Y2K and Starla, but Big Buddy and Billy Joseph were noticeably absent. This didn't seem to bother Mack, who got the upper hand right from the opening bell, ducking away from an MMX clothesline and taking him over with a huracanrana. MMX looked to be caught off guard by Mack's offensive flurry at the start of the match, and Mack capitalized by taking his opponent over with an armdrag and applying an armbar. MMX grabbed at his shoulder in pain as Mack pressed a knee into MMX's back, applying additional pressure on the upper arm joint. Mack pulled MMX back to his feet and tossed him off the ropes, but MMX reversed the whip, sending Mack to the far side. When Mack hit the ropes, Ying reached up and grabbed Mack's foot, tripping him up and causing him to fall face first to the canvas. After seeing what happened, Y2K came around the ring and confronted Ying, but the Japanese members of The Legion of Heroes didn't hesitate and immediately started double teaming Y2K on the floor, kicking and stomping the luchador into the concrete. While the referee was turned to the action outside MMX, who was waiting in the corner, reached into his tights and pulled out a can labelled "Anti-Criminal Spray". When Mack pulled himself up and moved in on MMX, the former TV champ shot the can up in front of Mack and sprayed it's contents right in Mack's eyes. With Mack blinded, MMX nailed a piledriver and a backbreaker before further working on his back with a Boston crab. The referee got right down in Mack's face to ask if he wanted to submit, but Mack refused and crawled desperately towards the ropes. With one final lunge, Mack reached out and clasped the bottom strand, forcing the referee to call for the break. MMX moved in on Mack again, but Mack grabbed him around the waist and pulled him forward, sending MMX through the ropes and out to the arena floor. By this time, Big Buddy had come running down to the ring, and was taking care of Ying and Yang on the outside. Y2K soon pulled himself together and joined Buddy in fighting off the Heroes. MMX started getting back to his feet, but while the referee was preoccupied by Mack's distraction, Buddy ran MMX from behind head first into the steel ring post. After Buddy rolled MMX back into the ring, Mack went up to the top rope and waited for MMX to get back to his feet. When MMX was back standing, Mack came flying off the top with the Stonecutter, but MMX saw him out of the corner of his eye and sidestepped the attack, sending Mack crashing to the mat. Seeing his chance, MMX grabbed Mack and nailed the X-Plex, locking his hands tight while the ref made the three count. After the Heroes had made their way to the back and Y2K had helped Mack to his feet, Mack called Big Buddy into the ring and offered him a handshake to thank him for his efforts, but before Buddy could accept or decline, Billy Joseph came running out from the back and called Buddy away. Buddy followed Billy, leaving The Upstarts and Starla in the ring to wonder what was going on.

Wood: Another win for Masked Man X here this week in what could end up being Mack's final appearance on Saturday Night Slams. The members of The Upstarts camp all seem to be on different pages heading into the big match at the PPV.

Brewer: I have to wonder why Masked Man X doesn't move on to higher up competition. He has held the TV title and holds a couple of wins over some top competition, yet he seems to have hit a snag in his career and hasn't been able to get back into the title picture. There were some rumors going around about a week ago that he might get a shot at DNL's midwestern title, but that never came to fruition. With Wolverine's injury on top of that, thinks have been on a downward slide of late for The Legion of Heroes.

Wood: Up next we have something of a mismatch when The Regulator goes one on one with Mute. The Regulator, as you know, is one of the top ranked contenders in the MMP and has held the world title for a brief period in the past, whereas Mute is still looking for that one big win to put him over the top and into possible contention for the midwestern or television championships. Add to all this the fact that Mute and Hot Crimson were involved in one heckuva battle out behing the arena earlier this evening, and things would certainly seem to be in Onyx Cooper's favor going into this match. Will overconfidence on Cooper's part play into this match? Can Mute overcome the odds and pull the upset? Let's go to the ring and find out.

THE REGULATOR vs. MUTE

As Mute's Nirvana entrance theme hit, the lights in the arena went out. When they came back up Mute was waiting in the corner, although tonight he was standing in the corner with his arms crossed waiting on his opponent rather than being perched on the top turnbuckle as usual. The lights then went out again as The Imperial March played and a green laser show lead the way down the aisle for The Regulator, who was accompanied by The Bootlegger and The Bootleggerettes. Upon arriving at ringside, The Bootlegger shook hands with Ray Brewer before sitting down to join him and Wood for color commentary. The two men locked up in the ring, and Regulator took control right away. Locking Mute in an armwringer, Reg quickly took his opponent down with an armdrag before catching him with a dropkick to the midsection. With Mute doubled over, Reg grabbed his opponent from behind and nailed a gutbuster. He then backed to the ropes and waited for Mute to get back to his feet, almost toying with the man who was clearly outmatched in the early going. When Mute regained his vertical base, Reg caught him with a jumping heel kick to the face and tossed him hard into the corner where he nailed Mute with a series of well placed shoulder shots to the midsection. Showing uncharacteristic cockiness, Reg gave a clean break, allowing Mute to regain his composure in the corner before moving in again. This proved to be a mistake however, as Mute seized the opportunity and took Reg down with a double leg pickup and dropping an elbow hard across Reg's knee. Dragging Reg out towards the middle of the ring, Mute delivered another elbowdrop before applying a simple leg submission hold to wear Reg down further. The Syndicate member looked frustrated as he was unable to reach the ropes, so he had to rely on his treacherous tactics, poking Mute in the eyes to break the hold. Reg slowly started to pull himself up, but Mute did the same a little bit quicker. Reg turned around limping, and Mute hit him with a crossbody press, but Reg caught him in mid air and executed a fallaway slam that sent Mute out under the bottom rope. Shaking his leg to show the injury was a ruse, Reg glanced out at Bootlegger before turning to the referee and criticizing the job he had done so far in officiating the match. With the ref distracted, Bootlegger got up from the announce table and gave Mute a shot to the head before draping him across the broadcast location. Reg then pushed away from the referee and went to the top rope, nailing Mute with a flying elbow that sent him crashing through the table to the arena floor. Both men lay prone on the floor for a few moments, but Reg was the first man to his feet. Grabbing Mute, he tossed him back into the ring where he nailed the Break before applying the Pinch. Mute had taken a lot of punishment during the match, and wasn't able to hold on long in the painful hold that parallels The Joker's Child's "Last Laugh". He quickly tapped out, and Reg was declared the winner. Once the bell sounded, Bootlegger quickly slid into the ring and the two Club Twilight members celebrated as if the win was the biggest either man had ever been a part of. When the two men calmed down, Reg demanded a mic:

REGULATOR: This will be an example to all you schmucks out there. We will not tolorate putzes like Mute any more. We are going to start to clean up the MMP. First we will teach the refs how to do a good job, then we will teach the mooks in the back how to do a good JOB.

Dropping the mic, the Syndicate members left the ring area together while the ref helped Mute out to the floor. As the area cleared, a large procession started making it's way to ringside.

Segment
THE CULT

Daark, Cult Master, Harbinger, Destroyer and "Sinister" Steve Fermaldihyde made their way to the ring, followed by a number of anonymous Cult minions. They entered the ring as even more cloaked Cult members brought some very large objects covered by a black sheet out into the entrance way.

DaarK: As the Cult grows greater in number and in power, we must accept the responsibility that comes with wielding such power. We must present light on the daarkened path. It is our duty to clease the defilers... the purify the heathens. At the Apocolypse pay-per-view, a number of infidels CRAWL before us, indirectly asking to be born again. One of these creatures is "Corrupt" John Korso. The name says it all. CORRUPT morally. CORRUPT spiritually. And after Wednesday night, he will be CORRUPT physically. In just four days, we will see where the true power lies, John. The Syndicate is nothing but rotting corpse... I will make that evident at Apocolypse. And I will not be the only Cult member carrying out our crusade. No... Harbinger and The Destroyer will also display the TRUE power of the Cult against their two opponents and my Master... my Master will recieve a sacrifice from our newest member... yesss... Formaldihyde's undying devotion will be ever so apparent as "Sinister" Steve Fermaldihyde lies down and allows himself to be pinned by the Cult Master... giving himself to the one, true GOD... Now I must demand complete silence from all of you sinners as my Master begins to speak..."

The Cult Master grabs the microphone and begins to speak in an almost mocking tone of voice. He peers through strands of his long, stark-white hair as he addresses the audience...

Cult Master: As many of you mortals know, another soul has come looking for guidance in the arms of my Holy Truth. He seeks enlightenment, and enlightenment he shall indeed receive! Before he entered my Righteous Arms, he was known as "Stupendous" Steve Fermosa, a brash, arrogant youth. Now, however, he is on the path to my Holy Light! Tonight is a wonderful night for The Cult, so let us continue with the ceremony!

"Sinister" snatched the mic away. He clutched the mic with both hands and spoke eagerly.

Sinister: "I have spoken for days of how tonight the true allegiance of "Sinister" Steve Fermaldihyde will be shown to his master and his companions. Tonight it will be revealed just how much The Cult means to me. My match against the Master at Apocalypse will be unlike any thing ever seen in the MMP. It will be a testament to the power of The Cult and to my own feelings toward this assemblage. But now, let me show you and the entire world just how much the Cult has changed my life, how important the Cult is to me, and how much devotion, love, and respect I have for The Cult.

Steve Fermaldihyde yells to the Cult members down the aisle.

Sinister: "Uncover my token of appreciation to the Master! Show the world who it is that I worship!"

The Cult members pull the cloth from the object, then gasp in horror, for under the cover was a large golden idol, an idol of "Stupendous" Steve Fermosa! The brilliant sculpture includes generously enhanced muscles, shining sapphire eyes, and a huge devilish grin. In the ring, Fermaldihyde throws off his cloak to reveal his usual Fermosa garb, including his custom golden boots and periwinkle trunks. He laughs loudly and raises his arms in the air triumphantly, but his celebration is short-lived as he is quickly seized by Daark, who slams him brutally into the mat. All of the Cult members mercilessly attack the traitor, then the clan exits the ring, leaving Fermosa lying unconscious for the paramedics.

Wood: It looks like that brash attitude of the newcomer Steve Fermosa has finally caught up to him. The Cult did not look pleased that this brash rookie would try to show them up on national television, and now it looks like Fermosa's match with The Cult Master could be in jeopardy as the EMTs are left to try and help him back to the dressing room.

Brewer: Well, Wood, Fermosa brought this upon himself. He was the one who wanted to run with the big dogs right from the start. Now it looks like his plan may have backfired. There have been many wrestlers who have come through the MMP and made the mistake of shooting too high too soon. Guys like The Cult have been around and know what it takes when it comes to crunch time. I've never been a fan of The Cult Master's ridiculous preachings, but I've also never had much of an affinity for hot-headed rookies who want to win the world title overnight. I'm sure The Cult Master will be able to put this kid in his place at the PPV.

Wood: Our first of three title matches is up next with the midwestern title to be decided here tonight. New champion Dr. No Limit begins his second reign as champion by putting the title on the line here this evening against the up and coming star named Tao Te Ching. Tao has looked impressive in his first couple of matches in the MMP, and may have an outside shot of pulling off an upset here against DNL. Let's go to the ring.

MMP Midwestern Championship Match
DR. NO LIMIT (C) vs. TAO TE CHING

DNL came to the ring accompanied by Zane and Charles, but it wasn't long before the many wrestlers wanting a shot at his title made their intentions known. Just as the trio came through the entrance way, a shout from backstage caused DNL to turn around...and get caught right in the midsection with a spear from Masked Man X. The former TV champion started hammering on DNL, but Zane and Charles were quick to pull the leader of The Legion of Heroes off of their associate. The distraction worked out well for Tao, who came running out from the back with Hot Crimson and Cup and attacked DNL's party in the runway. Crimson and Cup kept Zane and Charles back while Tao worked over DNL. After nailing DNL with a leg sweep on the floor, Tao delivered a pair of kicks to the body before slamming DNL head first into the safety rail. Cup then went down to ringside and grabbed a steel chair as Tao nailed DNL with an uppercut below the belt. Tao then grabbed the chair from Cup and nailed DNL across the forehead, knocking him nearly unconscious. The referee had seen enough, and threw the match out before it even got started. Both men's backup continued the fight on the outside while Tao pulled DNL down towards ringside. Going to the top rope, Tao nailed the Essential Flash on the floor before leaving the ring with no title, but having sent a message to it's holder.

Wood: So it looks like Dr. No Limit will be the man to face Izz Amazing for the midwestern title at Apocalypse, but Tao Te Ching made his presence felt in this division tonight by administering quite an assault on the reigning champion.

Brewer: Ya know, Wood, the reason I never liked rookies was because they were rarely able to back up their words. Tao did just that tonight. I don't remember the last time anyone left DNL laying like that. This kid could very well pose a threat to that title later on down the road. It also looks like Masked Man X was serious about getting that title shot after all. He left his calling card here tonight as well by getting a few shots in on the champion.

Wood: Yes, it certainly looks like the midwestern title is becoming the most hotly contested championships in the MMP once again. After a few months of stagnation with The Joker's Child, the title has suddenly generated a lot of interest again, reminiscent of a few months ago when top stars would come knocking for their shot at the gold on a regular basis. Ladies and gentlemen, we are being joined once again by "Corrupt" John Korso out here for commentary on our upcoming match, featuring the reigning world tag team champions Virus Richards and The Joker's Child against Hyoga and his mystery partner. George Achica is out here with him. Welcome, gentlemen.

KORSO: It your pleasure to have me here, isn't it Jerry? I'm here to get a first hand look at the tag team champions. I take great pride in the fact that I brought VIRUS back from the brink of oblivion, invited him to join THE SYNDICATE and gave him another shot at glory...and look at him. He's made us ALL so proud by winning one-half of the tag team championship. The partner he selected, on the other hand, DISGUSTS me. The JOKER'S CHILD is a poor excuse of a pile of donkey snot who was lucky enough to latch onto THE SYNDICATE EXPRESS. Well Jerry, I guess I'm here to say: The ride is over. There's a new tag team representing the SYNDICATE. GEORGE ACHICA and myself are forming a team that will provide the best combination of speed, skill and power. GEORGE and I will collectively known as THE DEADLY SYNS...

GEORGE: That's right, KORSO... and VIRUS, you've done nothing but poor mouth me since I joined up. You want to see what I'm made of? You want to me to prove my "worth"? You and that John Gacy wannabe meet THE DEADLY SYNS in the ring for a "friendly" match and I'll show you the stuff that I'm made of!

Wood: Let's go to the ring for tag team championship action!
