MMP Saturday Night Slams is on the air! More than 15, 000 fans are
jammed into the MMP Coliseum for tonight's big event. Commentators Jerry Wood and
Ray Brewer are at ringside.
Wood: Welcome, everyone, to MMP Saturday Night Slams! I'm
Jerry Wood alongside Ray Brewer, just a little over three weeks away from WrestleFest
2000, which gets underway on May 30 in Seattle, Washington. Early this morning the
lineup for the huge two year anniversary card was announced, and we learned that The
Bootlegger will have to survive challenges from Psychotic Sam, Virus Richards, and The
Cult Master in order to walk out of that event with the world championship, and tonight
the rivalry between those four men should really start to heat up as Bootlegger and Virus
will do battle in a tag team match, with each man bringing a mystery partner to the ring
tonight. Speculation has been running wild about who these partners will be but so far
nothing has been confirmed, so I guess we will just have to wait and see what these two
men have in store for us here tonight.
Brewer: It's going to be a big night for rematches here tonight as well, with two of our
scheduled bouts being return matches from last weekend's card. The Cloaked Shroud,
who was beaten quickly and easily by Wolverine last week, looks for avenge that defeat as
he does battle with the Michigan Outlaw once again, while newcomer Guru is out to
prove that his loss last week against Controversy was nothing but a fluke as those two
men will do battle once again.
Wood: The midwestern championship will be at stake as "Amazing" Andrew Peters, who
has challengers Controversy, Aries, and The Cloaked Shroud lined up for him at
WrestleFest, defends the belt against Harbinger, who we have learned will face The
Destroyer for MMP TV title at WrestleFest, provided The Destroyer can survive with the
title until then and get past his May 30 opponent, who will be decided in our opening bout
here tonight. Ever since arriving in the MMP, "Atomic Thunder" Wade Grayson has
made it clear that his first goal in the MMP is to win the television title that Destroyer
currently holds while his opponent tonight, Jo Roberts, is a man that some felt should have
been offered a title shot initially when booking for WrestleFest was conducted. Tonight
both men have the chance to earn their way onto the big event, as a win here will propel
them into the television championship series and a May 30 title shot. Let's go to the ring
for our opening bout!
MMP Television Championship Series - Qualifying
Match "ATOMIC THUNDER" WADE GRAYSON vs. JO
ROBERTS
With Grayson already waiting in the ring, Jo Roberts (formerly known
as Izz Amazing) made his way down to the ring with his sidekick Chedda Cheese.
Roberts, obviously feeling that he deserved the WrestleFest title shot, took the fight right
to Grayson, immediately running in and nailing him with a knee to the midsection while
the referee was going over last minute instructions. The ref quickly called for the bell, and
the match was underway. Roberts stayed on top of Grayson early, pounding the rookie
with right hands and backing him into the ropes. He whipped the man off the far side and
went for a lariat as Grayson bounced back, but the newcomer ducked out of the way and
quickly countered with a hard forearm to the back of Roberts. This slowed Roberts down
and allowed Grayson to get the upper hand, pounding Roberts back into the ropes with a
series of right hands. This time it was Grayson whipping his opponent off the far side, and
as Roberts came back Grayson picked him up and drove him down across the knee with a
devastating backbreaker. He then tried to apply a surfboard submission hold but Roberts
managed to escape under the bottom rope and out to the floor before Grayson could get it
applied fully. After taking a couple of minutes to regroup on the outside Roberts slid back
in, and Chedda Cheese jumped up on the apron. Chedda shouted at Grayson to draw the
man's attention away from Roberts, who took advantage of the distraction and nailed
Grayson with a clothesline to the back of the head. When he saw Chedda up on the ropes,
though, Roberts was less than pleased. He stopped for a moment and ordered Chedda to
the floor, yelling at him to stay out of the match. Roberts then turned his focus back to
Grayson, whom he pulled up to his feet and whipped across the ring into the far corner,
following up with a big splash against the buckle. Grayson staggered out and was met
with a hard kick to the midsection from Roberts, who then took him over with a snap
suplex. As the action in the ring continued, someone could be seen making their way
towards the ring. When the man came into camera range he was identified as Lexus,
another man who had been left off the WrestleFest card. Lexus was carrying a lead pipe,
and he stood quietly on the outside while Roberts continued to work on Grayson. Roberts
started pulling Grayson up again, but again Chedda Cheese jumped up on the ring apron,
distracting Roberts while pointing over at and yelling towards Lexus on the other side.
Again Roberts yelled at Chedda to get down from the apron, and this time the official
stepped in to order the man to the floor. Once the ref was involved Roberts turned back
to the match. He ran off the far side ropes to get some momentum behind his next move,
but before he could deliver a shot to Grayson, Lexus reached up and smashed Roberts
across the back with his pipe!! Roberts went down hard and Lexus, not wanting to be
seen by the referee after Roberts had been taken out, hurried back to the dressing room.
On the other side of the ring Grayson was pulling himself to his feet, and when he saw
Roberts lying face down on the canvas he took full advantage of his opportunity. He
grabbed Robertsm, delivered his spinning powerbomb finisher, and made a quick cover to
score the three count and the victory. Grayson rolled out to the floor and headed to the
dressing room grabbing his back in agony while Chedda got in the ring, presumably to
help Roberts. Once Roberts was up, though, Chedda knocked him right back down with a
superkick to the jaw!! Chedda then walked out, leaving Roberts laid out in the middle of
the ring.
Wood: Looks like it will be "Atomic Thunder" Wade Grayson going
on to WrestleFest to challenge for the TV title, which should prove to be a big test for the
rookie. The Destroyer has been a dominant champion since capturing the belt several
weeks ago, and he's not showing any signs of slowing down. We should get a good idea
of Grayson's ability very soon as he gets a shot at one of the big stars right away.
Brewer: It's a rare opportunity that Grayson has landed here. Newcomers don't usually
get a title shot in the MMP until they've got a couple of months of active duty under their
belts, but now with one win in his debut match Grayson has earned himself a break that
many wrestlers never see, and that's a chance to wrestle for a championship on a pay per
view event. If he can capture the belt on May 30, he will make a huge name for himself
almost overnight. It'll be interesting to see how the rookie handles the pressure.
Wood: And let's not forget the involvement of Lexus here tonight. I wonder if he'll be
looking for some compensation from Grayson, who some might say only earned this title
shot because of Lexus' interference. I know Roberts will be after Lexus for costing him
this opportunity here tonight, so Lexus had better be watching his back as he comes to the
ring for our next match, ready to go one-on-one with Mr. Beumont.
MR. BEUMONT vs. LEXUS
Lexus came to the ring first, but his entrance was abruptly cut short as
The Imperial March began to play over the loudspeaker. Mr. Beumont then made his way
to the ring with Bad Odour Bodeur, with Beumont still wearing his Regulator battle mask
and carrying Loui Slugger. Beumont walked right over to Lexus and told him to "stop
copying me, schmuck", to which Lexus responded by delivering a hard uppercut that
nearly knocked Beumont out. Lexus then pulled Beumont up and delivered a powerbomb
before making the cover for the three count to take the match after only
seconds.
Wood: Another stellar performance from Mr. Beumont, lasting
several seconds in the ring this week against Lexus. Lexus picks up his first victory in the
MMP, although his first legitimate win over a real opponent has yet to come about. There
wasn't even enough time for Jo Roberts to come out even if he had wanted to. Well, as
we put this travesty of a match behind us we go to our one title match that we have here
tonight, with the midwestern championship to be decided. "Amazing" Andrew Peters
puts the belt on the line against Harbinger next.
MMP Midwestern Championship Match "AMAZING"
ANDREW PETERS (C) vs. HARBINGER
The challenger came to the ring first, proudly carrying his MMP tag
team championship belt over his shoulder. His tag team partner, The Destroyer, was also
at his side, on hand to guard against any outside interference. Peters then made his way
down, accompanied as always by Amanda. The champion slowly disrobed and removed
his championship belt in the middle of the ring, but Harbinger wasn't about to wait for the
opening bell. He attacked Peters right away, nailing the champion with hard right hands
that backed the champion into the corner. Once against the buckle, though, Harbinger let
up immediately, backing out to the center of the ring and inviting Peters to lock up.
Peters looked somewhat confused by Harbinger's approach, and moved in cautiously to
engage his opponent. When he went to lock up with Harbinger, though, the challenger
ducked out of the way, refusing to engage the man. On the second attempt the two men
finally came into contact, but they only grappled for position for a few seconds before
Peters released and jabbed Harbinger in the eye with his thumb. A series of chops to the
chest backed Harbinger into the corner, where Peters then delivered a hard European
uppercut. He snap-mared Harbinger out and dropped a knee across the forehead before
applying a rear chinlock to try and wear the challenger down. After a few moments
Harbinger managed to work his way over to the ropes, grabbing the middle strand in order
to force the break. Peters, not wanting to risk disqualification, quickly released the hold,
but he stomped Harbinger repeatedly across the back as the challenger tried to pull himself
up. The ref managed to back Peters away momentarily, allowing Harbinger to use the
ropes to get back to his feet. Once Harbinger was up Peters scooped him up in a fireman's
carry, but Harbinger managed to float over and land on his feet behind the man, taking
Peters down with a drop toehold in the process and applying an ankle lock submission
hold. Peters struggled desperately for the ropes, and the fans began to cheer as it looked
like Harbinger, who's difficult transformation to a more civilized person had earned him
the compassion of many fans, might be on the verge of a title win. After a few moments,
though, Peters managed to reach out and grab the bottom rope, forcing Harbinger to
relinquish the hold. As Peters pulled himself up Harbinger bounced off the far ropes and
came at Peters with a flying forearm, but Peters ducked low and Harbinger flew over top,
bouncing all the way out of the ring and down to the floor. Peters followed the man out
when suddenly Virus Richards started making his way towards the ring, much to the
displeasure of the sold out crowd. The Destroyer quickly stepped in his path, warning
Virus not to come any closer to the ring. Virus insisted that he was there to help "Brother
Harbinger", but Destroyer quickly lost his patience with the extreme champion and floored
him with a hard forearm to the jaw. Virus got up and nailed Destroyer with a low blow,
and the two men started brawling back towards the dressing room, where a group of
referees came out and tried to separate them. Back at the ring Peters had taken over
control of the match once again, slamming Harbinger into the steel steps before rolling him
back into the ring where he set Harbinger on the top rope for a superplex. Peters fell
backwards, but Harbinger grabbed on tightly to the top rope, holding his position as
Peters dropped to the canvas. After a couple moments the challenger pulled himself
together and stood up on the top rope, waiting for Peters to get to his feet. Once Peters
was up Harbinger dove off the top with The Omen, but the champion had been playing
possum and saw Harbinger coming in, and he brushed the man off as he came in, causing
Harbinger to fall hard to the canvas. From there Peters wasted little time and quickly
applied the Antagonizer. The champion wrestled his challenger to the canvas in the
middle of the ring, leaving Harbinger little opportunity to get to the ropes. He eventually
had to give it up, allowing Peters to hold onto the title. Peters' celebration was short
lived, though, as just as the final bell rang Aries, Hades, Baital, and Nashira emerged from
the crowd and were attacking Peters and Amanda. Aries took Peters down with a boot to
the back of the head while Nashira went for Amanda. Amanda was ready, though,
reaching into her blouse and tossing a handful of powder into Nashira's face! She then
sprayed Nashira in the eyes with a bottle of perfume, sending Baital's valet to the floor
writhing in pain. The three-on-one attack continued in the ring, but before long two large
men wearing black masks, both looking to be around 300 pounds, came running down
with steel chairs in hand. They slid into the ring and nailed Hades and Baital with their
chairs, and then teamed up to take out Aries, sending him over the top rope with a double
chair shot to the head. The two masked men then helped Peters to the dressing room,
leaving Aries and his cohorts in and about the ring.
Wood: Andrew Peters is still the MMP midwestern champion, but I
think Harbinger put up more of a fight than Peters was expecting he would. We nearly
had a new champion on more than one occasion tonight.
Brewer: Harbinger came close, I'll give him that, but there are a lot of guys who have
come close to winning a championship. Coming close is easy. The longest yard is making
the jump from close to champion, and Harbinger couldn't make it tonight. It will be
interesting to see what happens when he faces The Destroyer in a few weeks at
WrestleFest, though. Harbinger looks like he could be on the doorstep, and he probably
knows The Destroyer better than anyone in the MMP while Destroyer has to be limited in
what he knows of his recently transformed tag team partner. Harbinger might be a more
formidable opponent for Destroyer than anyone realizes.
Wood: That could very well be, Ray. We saw at Homicidal Tendencies that members of
The Cult don't hold back even when pitted against one another, and I'm sure WrestleFest
will be no different. Coming up next we have the first of our two return matches from last
week's SNS card as Controversy, a man who I'm sure was watching the Peters/Harbinger
match with great interest as a result of his upcoming midwestern title shot, takes on a man
left out in the cold in terms of the championship series' in Guru. Let's go back to the
ring.
CONTROVERSY vs. GURU
Guru came to the ring first and, as promised, he had back up with him
in the form of his new bodyguard, a huge man by the name of Ghost Rida. When
Controversy's music came on, though, the bizarre painted man was nowhere to be found.
Moments later Controversy appeared on the giant video screen, challenging Guru to come
back and meet him at the concession stand in the lobby. Guru looked over at Ghost Rida
and, much to the delight of the fans, took off up the aisle to accept Controversy's
challenge. The camera followed him through the backstage area out into the lobby of the
building, down the corridor to the stand where hundreds of fans had gathered to watch the
fight. Guru hopped over the counter at the stand, but Controversy was nowhere to be
found. Suddenly, out from around the corner came Controversy, who had been hiding as
he waited. He reached over the counter and nailed Guru in the back of the head with a
frying pan before joining the man in the kitchen area. Controversy didn't waste any time,
slamming Guru into the popcorn machine before sticking the man head first into an oven!!
Luckily for Guru security arrived before Controversy could turn the oven on, and a bunch
of referees came out to check on Guru. "that's what u get 4 wasting my time" shouted
Controversy as he was being taken away. The match, which never officially got
underway, was ruled a no contest.
Wood: Not quite the match we were expecting between Controversy
and Guru, but Controversy certainly made his point. It doesn't look like he's interested in
facing Guru again, and is willing to let last week's match stand as the only decisive
outcome between the two.
Brewer: And if you ask me, that's the right approach to take. Controversy has defeated
Guru. Beating him again would prove nothing. I can see why Guru wants another shot at
Controversy, but there's nothing in it for Controversy to grant that opportunity. He has a
midwestern title shot to prepare for at WrestleFest. If I were him, that's where my focus
would be.
Wood: Of course there's something in it for Controversy. He has a chance to prove that
he is the better man once and for all, and an opponent of Guru's calibre would be a good
warmup for the PPV where Controversy would have to go through three men in three
days in order to leave as a champion. Let's hope our next return match has a little more
action to it, as Wolverine and The Cloaked Shroud prepare to meet for the second week in
a row.
WOLVERINE vs. THE CLOAKED
SHROUD
Wolverine was already in the ring as The Cloaked Shroud,
accompanied by Lady Enigma, made his way down the aisle. His mask covered his facial
expression, but Shroud's walk showed that he was very determined to make ammends for
last week's defeat. Once in the ring he went right to work on Wolverine with chops to the
chest, but his bigger opponent countered, nailing Shroud with some hard right hands that
backed the masked man to the ropes. Wolverine whipped Shroud off the far side and
caught him coming back with a back elbow, dropping Shroud to the canvas. The opening
moments of the match were taking the form of the previous week's match, with Wolverine
dominating his adversary. Wolverine dropped to the canvas and grabbed Shroud by the
head, slamming the back of the man's skull repeatedly off the mat before pulling him back
to his feet. Once up, though, Shroud quickly got in a low knee on Wolverine, backing the
bigger man away and giving Shroud some room to manuever. Shroud ran the near ropes
and nailed Wolverine with a spinning heel kick, and then pulled him to his feet to deliver a
sidewalk slam. Again Shroud pulled Wolverine up, this time sending him to the corner
where he again started in with chops, slapping Wolverine repeatedly across the chest until
Wolverine's chest was bright red. He then hoisted Wolverine up to the top rope where he
delivered a superplex before pulling the man out towards the center of the ring and
applying a Texas cloverleaf to try and where the big man's legs and back down. Before
Shroud could get the hold fully applied, though, Wolverine kicked out, sending the
masked man hard back into the corner. Shroud bounced back towards his opponent, who
delivered a hard knee to the gut before driving Shroud face first to the canvas with a
rocker dropper. Wolverine then pulled Shroud up and set him on top for a superplex of
his own, but Shroud blocked it and shoved Wolverine off the top, inadvertantly knocking
him into the referee! The ref went down hard and Shroud jumped down to the canvas.
After momentarily checking on the official Shroud pulled Wolverine up and attempted a
fisherman suplex, but Wolverine countered by rolling Shroud into a small package.
Shroud kicked out quickly, but Wolverine was clearly frustrated that there was no referee
to even attempt the count. Wolverine tried to help the ref up when suddenly Masked Man
X came running out from the dressing room. He slid into the ring and hit Wolverine
across the back of the head with a forearm, while Shroud climbed to the top rope. MMX
hooked Wolverine and took him over in the X-Plex, and Shroud jumped off and nailed
Wolverine with a diving headbutt to the ribcage! MMX and Shroud looked at one
another, and while Shroud made the cover MMX woke up the referee, who slumped over
and made the three count. After the match, Shroud called for a mic:
The Cloaked Shroud: Let it be known that on this day the first blow against evil was
struck. The self-proclaimed "Michigan Outlaw" has paid a heavy price but he will not be
the last to feel the blade of liberty. I'm putting the fringe groups of the MMP on notice. I'm
speaking of dispicable CULT, the unspeakable CONGREGATION and the
demented SYNDICATE 2000. Masked Man X and The Cloaked Shroud have
formed THE FRONT LINE. THE FRONT LINE against evil. THE FRONT LINE against
oppression. THE FRONT LINE that will gaurentee that JUSTICE IS
SERVED.
MMX: That's right ladies and gents. THE FRONT LINE against evil has now been
established. WOLVERINE was the first to see the forces of good at work. Now you may
wonder, "Why Wolverine? Isn't he one of the good guys?". Well, we thought he was a
good guy, too. Well... he is not. I played along the whole ally bit just to get as close as
possible to him. Believe me.. it is not I that is pretending to be the hero... it is him. If you
all only knew the stuff I do. But now that he is dealt with it is time to move on to the rest
of the evil and corrupt populus of the MMP.
MMX tossed the mic aside and The Front Line walked out.
Wood: I'm not quite sure to make of this, Ray. Is that the way that
true "heroes" do business? I can't help but question the way in which The Cloaked Shroud
has evened the score with Wolverine. And Masked Man X...what can I say? I don't think
this feud between him and Wolverine will ever fully die down.
Brewer: It's hard to tell where those two guys are coming from. Sometimes it seems that
MMX and Wolverine don't know if they're coming or going relative to one another.
Either way I'm sure that we'll be seeing them in the ring together in the very near
future.
Wood: And now I can only assume that The Cloaked Shroud could be Masked Man X's
tag team partner for WrestleFest, as we know that on June 1 the tag team champions will
have to face MMX and an unannounced partner. And speaking of unannounced partners,
Virus Richards and The Bootlegger each have mystery partners for our upcoming main
event tag team match. No titles on the line here, just two men trying to out manuever the
other and get the upper hand heading into WrestleFest. We take you back to the ring for
our main event!
THE BOOTLEGGER & ??? vs. VIRUS RICHARDS &
???
The world champion Bootlegger came to the ring first, arriving at the
ring with Passion as well as The Black Cross. Bootlegger was without a tag team partner,
though it was assumed that his ally would be coming out shortly. Before Bootlegger
could introduce a partner, Virus Richards emerged from the crowd, wielding a taser...the
same taser he stole from Bootlegger during the dangerous game match at Homicidal
Tendencies. He slid into the ring behind Bootlegger and jammed the taser into the back of
Bootlegger's neck, dropping the world champ to the canvas in horrible agony. With no
tag team partner for either man around the ring and only a one on one match to go with,
the ref called for the bell and started the fight, even though Bootlegger was down and all
but out right from the start. Virus pulled Bootlegger to his feet and whipped him off the
ropes, nailing him with a leg lariat. As the fight continued Crimson's music played over
the loudspeaker and the man who had offered to be Virus' tag team partner came down
the aisle. Before he got very far, though, Psychotic Sam and The Family ran out from the
dressing room and ambushed Crimson, hammering the Cult member down by the entrance
way and keeping him away from the ring. Back in the ring Virus nailed Bootlegger with a
tombstone piledriver before going to the top rope and nailing the frog splash, making the
cover for the 1..2...3. Virus got to his feet and began berating Bootlegger, meaning that
he never saw the arrival of Daark, who came out from the crowd and stood behind Virus
in the ring. When the extreme champ turned around Daark nailed him with a series of
right hands, knocking him to the outside of the ring. The two brawled on the floor, and
were soon joined by The Front Line. Shroud pulled Bootlegger out of the ring and
slammed him into the ring post while MMX went after Virus. MMX grabbed Virus'
extreme title belt and swung for the face of the champion, but Virus ducked out of the
way and the belt connected squarely with the face of Daark. Virus nailed MMX with a
low blow while he was startled, grabbed the belt, and took off out of the arena as the
screen fades to black.
