ARIES

Bio

Born February 20, 1974 in Athens, Greece. Began his career in Greece at the age of 16. Aries then got hired by Mike Marvellous (Mr.Marvellous) at the age of 24 to be a Bodyguard in the CWA (Canadian Wrestling Association). Aries went on to get his Canadian citizenship and began training with Mike Marvellous' dad, John Marvellous. Aries turned professional in 1998 in the HWA where he went on to win his first professional title (HWA Intercontinental). Aries then signed on in the month of May with the MMP where he went on to be universal champion and 2 time world champion. In the summer of '98, Aries signed with the GWF (Global Wrestling Federation). He won the hardcore title before the federation's tragic end.

MMP Career History

Aries initially came to the MMP in May 1998 as one of a select few wrestlers from the Hardcore Wrestling Alliance who began participating in a series of inter-promotional matches on Saturday Night Slams. Teaming with Mr. Marvellous in a series of matches against members of the Genocide Xpress, Aries impressed the scouts enough in these first few appearances that he was quickly offered a full-time position in the MMP. Aries recorded his first win in the MMP on June 13, 1998, dominating fellow seven-footers Orion and 187 in the first-ever Giant Rules Match, earning a spot in the tournament to fill the vacant world championship at the upcoming Championship Fever pay-per-view event. Aries easily moved past Machine Head in the first round before being ousted in the semi-finals by Diamond King under controversial circumstances. Aries' first title shot came on June 27 when he faced Darkson for the universal championship. The leader of Fate's Warning and his associates would prove too much for Aries that night, but the "Beast from Greece" gave Darkson his toughest test to date and established himself as a legitimate contender to every MMP title with his performance that night. The loss seemed to light a fire in the big man, as the next few weeks would show. He dominated The Ironman (otherwise known as Ace Manley) on July 4 and led Team High Society (along with Al'Rashid and The Cosmic Connection) to a convincing victory over Dragon's Maw (Ryu "The Dragon" Akira, Dion Larynx, Darkson, and Mack) at the BattleGround PPV from Philadelphia on July 22. After defeating Orion on July 25, Aries was rewarded with a shot at Blitzkrieg's world championship a week later, an opportunity he wouldn't let slip away as he defeated the leader of Disposable Heroes to capture the title. He captured the universal title from Darkson in a title vs. title match on August 15 only to lie down and hand the belt over to fellow High Society member Jeremy Grieve moments after the match. The win made Aries the only man in MMP history to simultaneously hold both the world and universal titles. After a series of succesful defenses of the world title against the likes of Blitzkrieg, Virus Richards, Brick Stevens, and Diamond King, Aries was starting to look unbeatable. He held the belt until October 24, 1998 when a set of mysterious circumstances made him unable to appear for a mandatory title defense against "Massacre" Mark Allyn. Allyn was awarded the title by a forfeit, but after defeating Wolverine in a Steel Cage Match on November 7, Aries regained the belt on November 14, succesfully defending it at the MMP/GWF Best of the Best PPV against Allyn and West Law in a triple threat match. In a surprise move, Aries laid down and allowed Mr. Marvellous to pin him for the title on December 19 in a triple threat Giant Rules Match that saw the two members of High Society humiliate Masochrist before going through with the controversial title change. Now out of the world title picture, Aries ventured into the world of tag team wrestling, teaming with Mr. Universe in an attempt to win the tag titles from new champions Captain Patrick O'Conner & Gralen at Season's Slayings on December 30. Their attempt would be thwarted by the champions in a match that saw Mr. Universe's leg broken by O'Conner and Gralen. After beating Dr. No Limit in his first match of 1999, Aries took a leave of absence from the MMP during which time he fought only once, losing a very short match to Diamond King on January 16. He made his full time return to the ring at Hardcore Saturday Night on February 20, teaming with Dr. No Limit to eliminate Beholder & Goliath in the first round of the tag team championship tournament. The duo would eventually lose in the second round against O'Conner and The Ryno. He participated in the ten-man tag team main event at Main Event Madness on February 24 for the vacant world title, but was not a factor in the winning fall. Lost to Clay Moore, but rebounded on April 3 when he defeated former friend Odin in a Loser Leaves the MMP Match. Hit a snag in the spring of 1999, losing key matches against the likes of Switch-Blade (Scott Worth), Dr. No Limit, and Death. Aries took another leave of absence in late April, but surprised everyone by making his return during the Parade of Champions and costing Death a shot at the Survivor's Cup. After beating Death in a Casket Match, Aries answered an impromptu challenge from Disco Pete at the Chaos on the Coast PPV, and pinned him to win the Extreme Championship. With a championship in his possession once again, Aries quickly became the target of a man who had always considered himself one of the most hardcore men in the MMP, Aries' former tag team partner, Dr. No Limit. After defeating The Destroyer in his first title defense, the Aries/DNL feud climaxed with a match at BattleGround 2 where Aries, with a little outside help from The Regulator, retained the title after a Godly Drop. He eventually dropped the title at Apocalypse in New York in a Warehouse Match against Psychotic Sam. Aries sustained a serious leg injury during that match when Sam ran over his legs with a car. He then made a comeback in September '99, a couple of weeks after firing Mr. Marvellous as his manager. His return bout saw him fail in an attempt to capture the midwestern title, but he would rebound the following week to upset universal champion Daark and qualify for the Hall of Fame tournament. He didn't progress far in the tournament, losing to The Destroyer in the first round. Aries saw his feud with Dr. No Limit rekindled after a November 6 match saw Aries paralyze DNL's longtime friend Perry Sanders with a Godly Drop, thus ending Sanders' career. During an SNS ladder match an alliance was revealed between Virus Richards and Aries as Aries, along with Malice who would leave the federation shortly after, helped Virus claim sole possession of the tag team championship. Aries occassionally defended the championship along with Virus, defeating the team of DNL and Achica on an SNS broadcast. After Virus had been stripped of the championship, the two faced Benjamin Childs (DNL, who began wrestling under his real name after losing his doctorate to Daark) and George Achica in a best-of-three series with the number-one seed in the upcoming tag team championship tournament on the line at Season's Slayings. Aries lost to Childs in a singles match, and then teamed with Virus, who had defeated Achica earlier in the night, to lose the deciding match. Aries attacked Virus during the match, and the two appeared to have split. The split was later revealed to be a ruse, as the two men reunited after the O'Conner/Daark world title main event. Along with The Bootlegger, "Stunning" Steve Simon, and Inferno, the two assaulted Daark, who had just captured the world title. The group became known as The Cartel, and made it's presence felt early in 2000, perpetrating a backstage attack on universal champion Hassan Abu Saada that saw Hassan be tossed down the garbage chute at the MMP Coliseum. Aries didn't stay in The Cartel for long, though, turning on the group during a match on January 15 and alligning himself with The Joker's Child. After dropping a loser must bow match to The Cult Master at Daark Ages Aries took several weeks away from the MMP, and when he returned he not only had Mr. Marvellous back by his side but also his brother Hades, who had recently signed an MMP contract. Marvellous wasn't around for long but Hades was, and the brothers were eventually joined by Baital and his valet Nashira. In their quest to see Aries become the first wrestler to capture every MMP championship the group not only targetted midwestern champ "Amazing" Andrew Peters, Aries and Hades also became involved in the tag team division, chasing the titles held by Harbinger & The Destroyer. The two brothers did win the title, but before long Aries gave his half of the title to Baital in an attempt to force him to get along with Hades. The plan worked, and Hades and Baital went on to form a successful team. Aries refocused on singles action, targetting the two titles he had never held...the midwestern and TV titles. He wasn't able to defeat either champion (Peters or Twisted Steel), though he did hold the extreme championship briefly after defeating Benjamin Childs. At Final Judgment Aries finally captured the TV title from champion Adam Kogler in a bizarre triple threat match that also involved Mr. Beumont, and he remained champion as the MMP closed it's doors.

They Said It...

"What can I say about this two time World Champion? Those of us who have been involved in the MMP for a while can only marvel at his overall consistency. The Beast from Greece will always be remembered as a tough competitor with a deadly finisher. Not too man here can say that they ever walked away from a Godly Drop." -- Captain Patrick O'Conner

"The most impressive thing about Aries is that he has accomplished so much while dragging Marvellous around with him everywhere he goes. As someone who once had that unenviable responsibility, I know it's not easy to look good with Marvellous around, but Aries did it. Sure, I managed to take this big lumbering imbecile down a few times, but he did hold two world titles. There's something to be said for that. They weren't as impressive as my title reigns, but hey, whose were?" -- Diamond King

"The Commish asked us if we would comment on the Hall of Fame inductees. Aries. Not much to say about this guy. The Lard faced him in many Battle Royals in which it usually went down to the two of them. Lets just say that if you had to compare the two, The Lard would be a Big Mac and Aries would be a regular cheeseburgar. Not that being a cheeseburgar is bad (unless your in The Lard's hands). The cheeseburgar is a step down from the Big Mac but the cheeseburgar has been around forever and continues to be a rather hot commodity. So since The Big Mac ain't in it this year, our vote goes to Aries." -- Irwin Hinkle

"For the Hall of Fame, we would have like to pick ourselves. But,... our little time in the Russian prison has casted us out of the voting pool. So out of all the worthless schmucks nominated, we pick Aries. We have seen Aries in the ranks of wrestling since our first tour in the HWA. We, ourselves never tangoed with Aries, unless you count that time Ace Manley hired us to whack him, but other than that, Aries and Regulator never faced in a one on one match. But back to the subject, why Aries. He is the only one that been in this business through thick and thin. He wrestles who ever challenges him, and under any rules. The Beast from Greece is nowhere near being a coward, and that is why we chose him." -- The Regulator
