Villarreal is my favorite team in the Spanish League. You probably wonder how I came to like a team in the 2nd Division. It is from a computer game I had, called PC Futbol 4.0. Some of you probably know this game. I really don't know much about the team, here in Israel you can't read about the Spanish 2nd division. You can imagine my delight when I read they were promoted. I looked on the Internet, but apparently they don't have a site. I was also on the Official Spanish Soccer Site but everything is in Spanish, and even though I understood a lot (because the similarity to English and PC Futbol 4.0), I couldn't find a links page or a page about the team. I would really appreciate it if someone could send me the address of their site or any other information about the team.
I know that Villarreal are heavy favorites to be relegated so I'm not very optimstic. Since they bought some good players like Craioveanu, Imanol and Moises, I hope they will be OK. I can't really do much more than the team schedule until I find out more about the team.
The win in the Nou Camp proved that VIllarreal won't go down without a fight. It also gave them some worldwide recognition. When I say my favorite team in Spain is Villarreal, nobody says "Who????"
I saw the game against Celta Vigo on TV. Israeli TV shows Celta a lot because of Haim Revivo. Villarreal went ahead 1-0, but Juan Sanchez scored just before half time to make it 1-1. In the 2nd half Juan Sanchis had a goal disallowed for a non-existant offside. I guess not only in Israel and the European Cups do the referees favor the big teams. Georghe Craioveanu missed against an empty net and Celta scored 3 times in the last 20 minutes. Villarreal didn't play that bad and I think that they will survive if they stay in form and don't collapse. After next week at home to Valencia, I think Villarreal can take at least 6 points from Salamanca, Espanyol and Real Sociedad.
