Barnaby Expects a Cool Reception
Barnaby Expects a Cool Reception

Fans in every NHL rink despise Penguins winger Matthew Barnaby. But nobody hates him like Flyers fans.

"This is going to be a treat," Barnaby said of the game tonight. "This is probably the place where I'm hated the most, even more than in Buffalo. I've had beer thrown on me in the penalty box. I've had death threats there ... "

Wait a second, death threats?

"You know, you get the odd death threat on your voice mail that they're going to shoot you from the top row," Barnaby said matter-of-factly from the Penguins dressing room Wednesday.

And how does he feel about that?

"To me, I like it, because I think it represents that you're doing your job, and you're getting them (ticked) off," he said. "And if you're getting fans (ticked) off, hopefully you're getting the other team (ticked) off.

"I think you take a little warning to it, but it's part of the game."

Did Barnaby ever think of checking into the team hotel under an assumed name?

"No. As long as you have the `do not disturb' on your phone, you're OK," he said.
