25th June, 2000 Time for Aussies to break drought IT has been 13 years since an Australian won Wimbledon, but we have a strong chance over the next fortnight of breaking through. Anyone who saw Lleyton Hewitt beat Pete Sampras at Queen's Club will appreciate what a fantastic player Hewitt has become. On a roll, he is definitely a threat. 1was amazed at the way he returned against Sampras, who served pretty we 1 1. The court was quick so for Hewitt to return the way he did he must have really had his eye in. Mark Philippoussis has the game to win Wimbledon. We all know it is only a matter of time before "Flip" breaks through. He has a qualifier to start off with and he could play somebody like Tim Henman or Goran lvanisevic in the fourth round. If he is inform, it will not matter who he runs into. 1am feeling positive about my game and it is a good feeling to go back to a place where 1 was a semi-finalist last year. The big thing for me is movement and that is the one aspect that has held me back. 1play Jamie Delgado, one of the British wildcards in the first round, so 1 have to he careful. Wayne Arthurs is another guy we can look to do well if he can get through a couple of rounds. Potentially, he can do really well, as he showed last year. He has a great serve and grass is his best surface. Throw in Jason Stoitenberg, Andrew llie, Richard Fromberg, Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde and we have a strong presence. Sampras is obviously the man to beat. He has won six of the past seven titles and he is always going to be tough to beat on Wimbledon grass.
