The Home(s) of the Bullets

The NEC Arena

The NEC Arena has been the home court of the Birmingham Bullets since midway through the 1997-98 season, when they moved from the slightly larger NIA, to the more glitzy NEC. The Bullets took to their new home like ducks to water by beating struggling Crystal Palace.

The National Exhibition Centre

The Bullets have a good record on this court, with one of the best (the best if you ask me) and loudest sets of supporters in the Budweiser League.

The NEC arena can hold 12,500 people, but Bullets games usually fill about (guessing) 2,500 people. See inside the arena

The NEC has it's own website, which contains information on the NEC group as a whole, including the NIA, ICC and the Symphony Hall. You can find it at www.NECgroup.co.uk.

Directions - Suggested Routes

BY CAR:

  • From South - Take the M40 or M5 North until you intersect with the M42. Take that North and get off at Junction 6.
  • From North - Take the M6 South and go round the North side of Birmingham until the M6 crosses the M42. Join the M42 and get off at Junction 6.

Once you reach there, it's pretty obvious. There are plenty of signposts. If you want a site map, go here.

    BY TRAIN:

  • Go to Birmingham New Street Station (the big one) and then you need to take another train to Birmingham International. There are two types:- a local train, or a Virgin train. Both get you there, the local one in about 20-25 mins, the Virgin one takes about 10 mins. The return fare costs £2.70 (adults).

Once there, follow the signs, it's about a ten minute walk. Here is a map.

    The Aston Villa Leisure Centre

When the NEC is over booked and can't fit the Bullets into it's busy schedule, the AVLC steps into the breach, and always puts on a good performance. The seating is made of rows of cushioned benches, but the fans don't mind because there is (arguably) a bit more atmosphere because it's mostly the dedicated fans that go to support the team. Tickets cost the same price as the NEC, and season ticket holders don't really get a great advantage with their seats.

We probably play at the AVLC about 5 or 6 times a season, so check the schedule before speeding off to the NEC!

    Directions - Suggested Routes

    BY CAR:

  • Either direction - Get onto the M6 and follow it until you get to Junction 6. This is the world famous Spaghetti Juction. Join the A38 (Aston Expressway) and turn left at the island. Turn left again at the next roundabout and another left onto Aston Hall Rd. If you miss it now, you need shooting.

    BY TRAIN:

  • From New Street, get a local service to either Aston or Witton Station. (They're on the same line) It's then a few minutes walk to the sports centre.
