Dale J, Nathan S Continue Ride at Top
On this page:
NASCAR and NASDRO returned to one of our favorite tracks last Saturday for one of the year's most exciting races: the Pepsi 400. I said Gordon would win, and boy did he not win. I think he finished in 21st place or something. That's how it is in restrictor plate racing; no matter how good you and your car are, there's always a chance you'll get in the wrong line and get shuffled out of contention.
Not only did the race lack the girly presence of Gordon, but it also lacked the usual theatrics of the wrecking crew. There was only one wreck, and it came with less than five laps to go in the race. That wreck saved Jarrett's butt, because if he'd had to go the distance at full speed he would've run out of gas. He also had a rearview mirror full of the nauseator, who had taken on fresh tires and was ready for some rubbin'. Just imagine if there had been no caution. DJ would've run out of gas and dropped to about 35th place, and Texas Thunder would've gotten a fourth- or third-place finish. Bobby could just about have taken the points lead away from Jarrett.
For the last six years, the man who led the points at the halfway point, which we've reached, was the man who won the championship. But remember, folks, three of those years Gordon was the season champ. I don't think it mattered where he was at the halfway point. He was going to win those cups. Jarrett has a significant lead of over 160 points, but that could all go away with one DNF.
Our Points Race: Hotter Than the Weather
Speaking of leading at the halfway point, Nathan "I’m already in line for the next Star Wars movie" S. continues to pull away from Sean "moustache" F. Sean seems to be way off the pace, recording his first DNF of the season at Daytona. Is this the end of a dynasty? But all is not peachy for Nathan. Tim "La Vida Loca" S. leapfrogged two positions this week, and his two-week points total was higher than anyone else's. Kevin K is also coming on strong. Is there enough time for these handsome devils to catch Nathan?
Once again, y'all's comments were stellar. Rather than trying to pick and choose the best ones, click here to get the whole deal. The bonus points went to William "Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos" P for his idea that NASCAR put some roadkill on those road courses to make them more like real country roads.
Kevin won the week, but Nathan was the real winner thanks to a big fat DNF by Sean. Kevin and Will both had great comments. I continue to spiral out of control. After winning the points last week with 70 big ones, my dad has assumed his usual position in the lower third of the field.
