Corina Ungureanu's Biography

Corina Georgiana Ungureanu was born in Ploiesti on August 29, 1980. She
began gymnastics at Petrolul Ploiesti with her coach Leana Sima, who
still coached her in Deva after she joined the national team there. Corina
was also coached in Deva by Octavian Belu, Mariana Bitang & Benone
Pereteanu. Corina was a member of the national team from 1993-1999.
She was a member of 2 Worlds teams, in 1997 & 1999. Shortly after
the Romanian team returned to Deva from the 1999 Worlds, Corina
quietly packed her bags & left. She announced her retirement, stating that
she was tired of Octavian Belu putting her down. She was 19. Not long
after retiring, Corina followed in the footsteps of former Romanian star
Aurelia Dobre & Russia's Svetlana Khorkina by posing for Playboy. This
was criticized heavily by Octavian Belu & The Romanian Gymnastics
Federation, but Corina didn't care. She even publicly spoke out against
Belu & his comments. In March 2000, Corina & her boyfriend Mihai
Suciu were involved in a car accident...however both were ok. In 1998
she competed for the Italian club of Pro Novara.
