2000 PLAYOFF FORMAT

Wednesday, March 8th, 2000

Twelve teams will qualify for the Colonial Cup Playoffs. The three division winners will be the top three seeds based on points. The remaining nine teams will be seeded four through twelve based on points. The three division winners and the team with the highest point total among non-division winners will receive a first round bye. The first round is best-of-three and all other rounds are best-of-seven. The winners of the Preliminary Round series will be reseeded based on regular season points. Teams will again be reseeded following the Quarter-Final and Semi-Final Rounds.

Following is the pairings for the first three rounds:



Preliminary Round - best-of-three
Seed 1 - Bye (division winner with most points)
Seed 2 - Bye (division winner with second most points)
Seed 3 - Bye (division winner with third most points)
Seed 4 - Bye (non-division winner with most points)
Seed 5 vs. Seed 12
Seed 6 vs. Seed 11
Seed 7 vs. Seed 10
Seed 8 vs. Seed 9
Quarter-Final Round - best-of-seven
Seed 1 vs. Team advancing from Preliminary Round with fewest regular season points
Seed 2 vs. Team advancing from Preliminary Round with second fewest regular season points
Seed 3 vs. Team advancing from Preliminary Round with second most regular season points
Seed 4 vs. Team advancing from Preliminary Round with most regular season points
Semi-Final Round - best-of-seven
Remaining team with most regular season points vs. Remaining team with fewest regular season points
Remaining team with second most regular season points vs. Remaining team with second fewest regular season points
