WEST UHL ALL-STARS DEFEAT EAST UHL ALL-STARS, 7-3

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO . . . The West UHL All-Stars jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they defeated the East UHL All-Stars 7-3 on Wednesday night in front of 4,350 fans at L.C. Walker Arena in Muskegon, MI in the Third Annual UHL All-Star Game.

The West All-Stars scored three times in a :37 span early in the first period on goals from Quad City’s Glenn Stewart (4:48), Missouri’s Jeremy Rebek (5:12) and Fort Wayne’s Frederic Bouchard (5:27). The West took a 5-0 after two periods on goals from Quad City’s Garry Gulash (5:58) and Madison’s Jim Duhart (6:43). Gulash’s goal was his first of two, marking the first time in the three year history of the UHL All-Star Classic that a player has had a multi-goal game. For his efforts, which included an assist on Stewart’s first period goal, Gulash was named the Primary Network West Most Valuable Player.

Flint’s Ross Wilson got the East All-Stars on the board with a goal at the 2:28 mark of the third period. Asheville’s Brent Gretzky scored the team’s second goal (5:24) and Flint’s Nick Stajduhar rounded out the scoring in the game and for the East team at the 18:06 mark. For his efforts, Gretzky was named the SES East Most Valuable Player.

Gulash scored at 10:56 of the third period and Rockford’s Jason Firth rounded out the West’s scoring at 12:23. 

Missouri’s Brian Regan (West) and Flint’s Mark Richards (East) started in goal, both playing 30:13. Regan stopped all 21 shots he faced and Richards stopped 14 of 19 shots. Muskegon’s Joe Dimaline stopped 24 of 27 shots and Mohawk Valley’s Patrick Charbonneau stopped 13 of 15 shots in relief of Regan and Richards, respectively.

In the All-Star Skills Competition, held prior to the Game, the East team defeated the West, 9-8. The East All-Stars earned two points in the Hardest Shot Competition, one point in the Accuracy Shooting Competition and six points in the Breakaway Relay. The West team earned two points in the Accuracy Shooting Competition and six points in the Breakaway Relay.

B.C.’s Chris Grenville won the individual Hardest Shot Competition with a 91 MPH shot. The East also won the team part of that competition (85.8 MPH average).

East All-Stars Jay Neal (Port Huron) and Lindsay Vallis (Asheville) along with the West All-Star Kelly Hurd hit three targets in eight shots in the Accuracy Shooting, giving both team’s one point. The West hit seven targets on 23 shots giving them the team point.

In the Breakaway relay, the East All-Stars both scored five goals, all of which count in the team score. Muskegon goaltender Joe Dimaline and Mohawk Valley’s Patrick Charbonneau both made four saves to earn another point for both teams.
