Simon has praise for newest Cats
It's not exactly a stop-the-presses bulletin, but it seems the University of Arizona men's basketball team has a bright future.
And that's according to insider Miles Simon, who has been part of Arizona's informal pickup games the past couple of weeks. Simon said he likes what he's seen in McKale Center and the UA Recreation Center.
"Ruben Douglas, Richard Jefferson and Michael Wright stand out the most," Simon said of the freshman. "(Transfer) Loren Woods stands out but can't play (because of transfer rules). The future is so bright because of what they have and will have. And Michael Wright is almost unstoppable inside."
The immediate future may be the biggest question. Already, publications have UA as an afterthought because of its youth. What the publications don't know is that Arizona's style won't change that much from previous years. The big question is the youth.
"It's going to depend on how quickly the young guys will learn," said Simon, who knows a little about the subject, having started as a freshman. "Obviously, they will have to produce and perform because they're going to play. There won't be a time when (some) will redshirt. They will be in there from the start."
Simon said he's already had discussions about this season - and the venues Arizona will be in - so the team can prepare for what's ahead.
