Simon leaving. Orlando Magic draftee Miles Simon says he will stop
working out at McKale Center next week, but not because of his lawsuit
against the UA and the Kansas City Star over the publication of his
academic records.
Simon is leaving primarily because he can't work out with the Wildcats
once practices begin tomorrow under NCAA rules.
That will shrink the ex-Wildcat core at McKale to just the Rockets'
Michael Dickerson, who has enrolled in classes this semester.
"Me and Mike D can work out together, but there's only so much we
can do," Simon said. "I need to go one-on-one with guys like (Laker)
Sean Rooks and (Suns rookie) Pat Garrity."
Simon said he is able to play with a core of NBA players and prospects,
including ex-UCLA stars Toby Bailey and J.R. Henderson, near his
Laguna Niguel, Calif., home. Frequently, they use a gym at the
headquarters for Oakley Sunglasses, where former Wildcat Bruce Fraser
works.
Add Simon. Although Simon said he couldn't comment on the lawsuit
yesterday, he said he didn't want to cause distractions by filing it during
his senior year. He said he knew soon after the stories ran that he wanted
to sue, however.
"It had to be done," he said.
UA officials have declined comment.
