Okay, not to be outdone by HELLION (though he get's credit for posting the first CUSTOM PLAY on the board!), here is a Custom Play I've come up with. Great for when the "D" is thinking RUN. It involves PLAY-ACTION between the QB and the HB to get the defense to freeze for a second. Your Main target is the SLOT on the WEAK side, but if he's covered, hit the HB down the middle for a big gain. Let me know what you guy's think. Later.

Renenagade: Singleback/4WR

QB: PA-HB

FADE

Singleback - Normal

QB - DROP 5

WR #2 - INSIDE FADE

WR #1 - FADE

HB - FLAT L

WR #3 - QUICK OUT 3

TE - FLARE OUT

O-LINE - PASS BLOCK

The main read is the #2 WR as he moves towards the middle of the field. If you don't like what you see there, the #1 WR is the next option as he fades out. If you don't like either of those two options, then you can dump it off to the TE or the HB. The #3 WRs route is pretty pointless, actually. I guess you might be able to use it for short yardage or something, but the #1 and #2 WRs are your best bets.

This is sort of the same play that I created for NCAA 2000, now only for Madden. It is a flood route that will stretch a zone vertically. You have three receivers (SE, Slot, HB) in the weak zone so somebody should be open. Vs a zone, this play works best with a three step drop and a bullet to the slot guy or split end. You should lead the ball so that the pass is outside and behind the receiver. Vs man, you have to wait about an extra second or two then throw a pass that is a little overthrow and outside of the receiver, so that the corner and saftey can't get to it. It works great if your slot is a big, physical guy who can screen out the defender. If both of those guys get bottled up, your HB should be open for a quick couple of yards.

Works Great if you have two good route running receivers on the outsides and two speedsters in the slots.
Watch either slot first, then your outside receivers. If no one is open hit the HB.

Bunch by FlaG8er

Well, Madden2k-PC finally made it to Gainesville and as a bonus Best Buy put it on sale for $30. I ignored all the complaints I'd read about it on the Madden Central board and got it last night and so far I've noticed two things: 1) This game is awesome! This is actually several things, but I won't bother listing them all. 2) I suc-didly-uck at passing the ball. I knew my performance would drop off with a new game, but I really wasn't prepared for Brunell to be the lowest-rated passer in the league by a wide margin after 2 games. I decided I had to come up with a play that I could complete at a high percentage which would help me consistently move the chains while I caught on to the rest of the passing game. This is it:

Bunch
Singleback Big
qb Drop3
wr Sprint L
wr Fade
hb Out L 5
te2 Step In
te1 Step Out
ol Pass Block

Note that on PC in the Jag's playbook, both TEs lineup on the strong side in the play editor. The play wouldn't be as effective with the TEs on opposite sides. In practice I threw the fade to Jimmy Smith against a lot of zone Ds and was able to find Freddie T. open with room to roam against some Ds. During my last two franchise games, I've run it like this: 1)Drop back while rolling to the strong side 2)Throw the ball to Kyle Brady. I did this 15 times last game for 13 completions, 1 drop, 1 tipped pass because I didn't drop/roll enough for a total of 126 yards. On every D I've seen other than goal line, he catches the ball 4-8 yards downfield almost every time and occasionally will regain his balance and trample some DBs (I love that). Needless to say, Kyle is leading the league in catches now. And yes, I do call it Bunch because I'm trying to get the ball to Brady. Those of you who are already very good with the passing game probably don't need this, but since it's the first play I've ever posted, I'd appreciate feedback from anyone who uses it.

ZZ Top - Singleback / Big (2TE Strong)

First off, your gonna need to check and see if the PLAYBOOK your using allows for you to design plays using the 2TE STRONG formation (on this formation, both TE's are lined up on the STRONG side). The two I know about are the JAGUARS and the BROWNS PLAYBOOKS, let me know if there are any other's. An take off on "FlaG8R's" BUNCH play. Look for TE#1 on the SLANT, at TEN yards he'll turn and look for the ball Vs. MAN. make sure to ZIP it to him! Your other options are the HB on the STREAK route and the SE running the FADE.

The Grid-Iron Ghost $F$

I named this play Slash 80 because in action it looks a lot like the play that Rice got a lot of his yards on. It's definitely a great addition to any "west coast offense" playbook. Give it a try, I think you'll like it.

Slash 80 - Singleback normal formation

QB Drop 3
WR Flare in
WR Curl 10
HB Curl R 5
SL WR Fade
TE Cut out
Line, pass block

The strong side WR will do the flare in, but before he makes the flare cut you want to dump it to him over the middle. He'll blast straight left and up underneath the tight end. The corner will usually get screened but can't stay with him even if he doesn't. Remember the play is most effective if you make the toss before he makes his reverse cut. If you're a good madden runner you'll break this one every once in awhile if you use it. The WRs on the weak side are both supposed to get downfield to cause havoc if you can avoid the tackles and get to that side. If not just duck it up underneath and take your 9-12 yards. This is my favorite created play I have. Let me know what you think.

Hellion

I was glad to see the Grid-Iron Ghost $F$ posted a play for this formation. It's become my favorite one to make plays for in M2K. It seems like having both te's on the same side is difficult for the computer to react to. I converted Denver's Spread play to that formation and it works well. A play I really like out of that formation is a version of Ovidian's "Train" play. It works surprisingly well, even on Madden level. It gets stuffed once in a while, but I still average more than 5 against Madden. I'll post my version, since it's a little different, but the original credit goes to Ovidian:

Both WR's:Crackback block

HB:Sweep right

Both TE's:Pull right

OL:Pull right screen

Don't use the speed burst until you get outside.

line will be in your face, so its more like a no-drop pass, but once away
its an easy 10+ gain on just about any defense, its been stopped but not
often and never consistantly, especially with a good juke move, but it does
make me laugh seeing robert smith trotting out to the flat with stuessie,
mcdaniel, christy, and dixon all in front of him, i feel like im raping the
game but oh well, a slash in the win column is a slash in the win column

ps, this is run just as well to either side, and maybe best of all, the ball
is thrown while the rb is behind the qb, so it goes down as run yards, a
nice way to boost some stats at the end of the game

I haven't thrown an interception with this play yet. My qb rating is over 140. It works the best on 3rd and short, and its a money play on the goaline if your playing the computer. Your reads are your SE & FL on the Fade routes going deep. If the "D" Dbl. covers your WR's, look to the the SLOT's. If all else fails, hit the HB over the middle. *NOTE: Also a pretty good running play to catch the "D" thinking pass. At the SNAP of the ball, quickly hit the PITCH (R2) Button and outrun the "D". Just pray there not BLITZING when you go for the run.

Your HB on the SHOOT route should be the first man open and he is your "HOT" Reciever in case of a BLITZ. If the Defense plays it "safe" and sticks to either a MAN or ZONE coverage then you'll have time to look down field. Vs. MAN, check the SE on the QUICK IN 6 then the FLANKER running the IN N OUT route. Vs. ZONE, your progression should be SE, Wk. SLOT, FLANKER.

GRID IRON GHOST $F$

AS THE NAME IMPLIES THIS PLAY IS A REWORKING OF A GOOD PLAY CALLED SKY PUT ON THE BOARD BY COACH.THE ONLY CHANGES ARE THAT THE OFFENSIVE LINE USES RUN BLOCKS INSTEAD OF PASS BLOCKS, MAKING IT A PASS/RUN OPTION PLAY. AT THE SNAP HIT THE LATTERAL BUTTON AND THE QB WILL HAND OFF TO THE HB FOR A RUN UP THE GUT, OR YOU CAN DROP BACK AND THROW A QUICK PASS TO EITHER ONE OF THE SLOTS, FOR A QUICK 5-10 YARDS. SOME OF THE MORE TRADITIONAL PLAYERS MAY NOT LIKE THE RUN BLOCKING ON A PASS PLAY, AS THERE DOSEN'T SEEM TO BE AN ILLEGAL MAN DOWNFEILD PENALTY IN THE GAME, BUT I THROW THE PASS SO QUICK THAT I DON'T REALLY THINK THATS A PROBLEM. SO TRY IT OUT, AND PLEASE POST ANY COMMENTS

Nobody asked, but I'm going to post these plays as an example of what I'm using right now. These are from the SINGLE-BACK 4 WIDE formation. I try to keep the same formation so my human opponents won't know exactly what play based on the formation (i.e. the top 3 custom plays are single-back 4-wide, and the bottom 3 custom might be all out of the strong-I). Train2k (single-back 4-wide)

WR1 crack back blk

WR2 run blk M

WR3 run blk R

WR4 run blk L

LT pull L screen

LG pull L

C pull L

RG Pull L screen

RT pull L screen

Of course, the inspiration here was Ovidian's TRAIN run from Madden 99 (hope he doesn't mind). I tried to recreate it with this formation with surprisingly good results. Just speed burst for the corner, after a moment of hesitation, to allow your line to pull and form a wall of bodies.

FATHOM (screen pass)

WR2 quick screen

HB screen R

WR3 flare in

WR4 run blk R

RG-RT pull R screen

With a good spin or Juke I can sometimes break a long run with the HB. The quick screen to the WR works well if the corner is playing way off. I found this to be my "money" play when it comes to 2pt conversions. Hence the name, Fathom (a measurement of depth equal to about 6 ft).

Finally, there are some good plays out there to round out the 3rd box. I will change the 3rd box every so often to keep things from getting too familiar to my friends.

LONGSHOT

QB Drop 5

WR1 Inside fade

WR2 Streak

HB corner L 5

WR3 Flare in

WR4 Flare out

OL pass blk

Here you can zip it quick to the WR on the flare out for an average 8-12 yd gain (to the long side of the field), or throw it long for the WR's on the fade or streak. The HB is also usually a good dump off as the WR's should clear out for him. NOTE: These plays may not reflect the views of my staff, management, or advertisers. No Madden players were harmed in the making of these plays. Honest.

Oregontrail

I have had this play for a while and after thinking about the SE Slant I made this play even better than originally created.

It's Shotgun 4WR

I numbered the WR's from left to right

WR1 - Fade

WR2 - Flare Out

LT - Pass Block M

LG - Pass Block M

C - Pass Block M

RG - Pass Block M

RT - Pass Block M

WR3 - Sprint L

WR4 - Sprint L

QB - 5 Step Drop

HB - Shoot R

Now I always threw the ball to my HB and he is usually open especially against man defenses. Now if he's not open then look at WR2 (who is actually your 3rd WR like SE Slant Man) he should be open. If you throw it to WR2 right from the snap then he will get a quick 3 almost automatically, and then if he is fast a good chance for TD. I also like To throw it to the fade man if they are keying in on the other aspects of the play. This a great 2 point conversion play against the computer, I use it every game. I hope you like it make any changes you want to it.
