Iguanas Win 30-27; Keep Hold On First Place In Cheatem

This game was a battle of the kickers in the early going. Jason Hanson had 13 points by halftime for the Revenge while Mike Hollis had 6 points for the Iguanas. The two teams traded touchdown passes and Eddie George topped the 100 yard mark for the Iguanas to make the score 17-12 Revenge. Jason Hanson kicked his 4th and 5th FG and Neil O'Donnell added a TD pass to offset a James Stewart TD and four more points from Mike Hollis. That made the score 27-22 Revenge. Revenge K Jason Hanson totaled 19 points in all while Iguanas K Mike Hollis add 10 points of his own. Late in the 4th quarter, Olandis Gary not only scored the go ahead touchdown, but passed 100 yards on 33 carries giving the Iguanas a last second lead that they were able to hold onto, winning 30-27 over a distraught Coach Unger. A look at the final boxscore shows that the Revenge only got production from the QB and K positions this week. Everyone else was shut out. Olandis Gary made the difference for the Iguanas, making his signing a week ago a good one. It's uncertain what will happen to Gary when Derek Loville returns from his injury but the Iguanas weren't worrying about that right now. At 5-1, they maintain their lead in the Cheatem division heading into next week's showdown with the struggling Grande To The Party. They improve to 1-1 lifetime against the Revenge. Montezuma's Revenge slips to 2-4 on the year, staying one game behind the NFC Norris, who also lost in Week 6. The Revenge play the Bearded Clams next week.

Emmitt Leads Clams Into 1st Place With Late TD Run

A late Emmitt Smith TD run on MNF gave the Bearded Clams a slim 27-24 victory over Grande To The Party. Marshall Faulk chose Week 6 to go off. By the half, he had 100 yards on the ground and a TD in his pocket for a quick 8-0 Bearded Clams lead. A Cris Carter TD catch for the Party brought the score to 8-6 but came at a price for the Party. Randall Cunningham was benched by the Vikings. The TD came from Jeff George instead. The Clams came back with a Kyle Bradey TD catch. Brady also caught the 2 point conversion after the TD to make the score 16-6 in favor of the Clams. After a field goal by Ryan Longwell from 50 yards out put the Clams ahead 20-6, the Party came back with 2 Ed McCaffrey TD catches, including a highlight film grab for a 78 yard touchdown. McCaffrey's 2nd TD brought the Party to within 21-20. A Richie Cunningham FG Monday night gave the Party a narrow 23-21 lead. However, the Clams moved down the field in the final two minutes of the game, capping the drive with a short Emmitt Smith TD run for a come from behind 27-24 victory over the Party. The Party scored an apparent game winning TD on the game's final play when the Cowboys special teams returned a kickoff for a touchdown. However, the TD was called back due to an illegal forward pass by Deion Sanders on the return. The win gives the surprising Clams sole possession of 1st place in the Dewey division at 3-2-1 while the Party falls to 3-3 and two games behind in the Cheatem division going into next week's division showdown against the Greenback Iguanas. The Clams play the King of Dogs next week.

Highways Roll To Easy 30-5 Win; Still One Game Back

The Highways took an early lead and had no difficulty keeping it as the Norris, coming off a Week 5 performance that saw them score the league high for the week, scored only 5 points and lost by the decisive score of 30-5. The Highways wasted no time bolting to a lead this time, striking with an Antowain Smith 52 yard touchdown run and a 4 yard Isaac Bruce TD catch for a 12-0 lead. Two Gary Anderson PATs made the score 12-2 Highways. Gary Anderson kicked a FG for the Norris to offset Curtis Martin's 100 yards for the Straners, making the score 14-5. Sunday night, a Brad Johnson TD pass and 6 kicking points from Brett Conway gave the Highways a comfortable 24-5 lead and the Giants defense extended the lead to 30-5 on a Tiki Barber punt return for a TD. That's how the game ended. With the loss, the NFC Norris lost its hold on 1st place in the Dewey division and must play Montezuma's Revenge next week in a divisional matchup. The Highways improve to 4-2 for the year and 4-2 lifetime versus Coach Nerz. They will meet the Stanley Steamers next week in a Howe division game.

Late Alexander TD Catch Gives Steamers Slim Win

The Stanley Steamers have not gotten the publicity of the other three teams in the Howe division but they continue to be a factor in the race as they improved to 3-3 after a 27-21 victory over the King of Dogs in Week 6 action. The Stanley Steamers struck quickly on a 1 yard Jerome Bettis TD plunge. After a 69 yard touchdown catch by Tony Martin briefly put the King of Dogs in front, Bettis scored his 2nd touchdown of the day to put the Steamers on top 13-8. Tony Martin finished with 100 yards receiving and K Kris Brown added a FG for the Dogs while Steve Christie kicked a FG for the Steamers and Jerome Bettis had a 100 yard game. One hundred yards from newly acquired TE Byron Chamberlain coupled with Jerry Rice's last second TD for the Dogs gave them a 21-16 edge going into SNF. During the Sunday night game, TE Stephen Alexander scored a late TD giving the Steamers a slim 22-21 lead that held up for the victory. The Steamers go to 2-0 lifetime versus the Dogs. At 3-3, the Steamers will play the Strange Highways next week while the King of Dogs, still looking for their 1st victory, will try to win a game against the NFC Norris.

Mystics Rebound 34-27 Behind Wheatley's 14 Points

The Natural Mystics led from start to finish to beat the Palace of Swords 34-27. Tyrone Wheatley got the scoring started early with a 3 yard score for the Mystics. A field goal and 3 PATs by Adam Vinatieri put the Mystics up 12-0. Jeff Wilkins toed four PATs by halftime for the Swords before Peyton Manning countered with his 1st TD toss of the day. With the score 16-4 in favor of the Mystics, Jeff Wilkins kicked a pair of field goals to make the score 16-10 Mystics. But Tyrone Wheatley scored his 2nd TD while Adam Vinatieri kicked his 2nd FG of the game to make the score 25-16 Natural Mystics. Vinatieri's 3rd FG made it 28-16. A Wesley Walls TD catch put the Mystics ahead 34-17 before Dorsey Levens scored on a 1 yard sweep to pull the Swords back to within 34-23. A late Jeff Garcia TD pass closed the Swords to within five but they were unable to get closer. The win gives them a 5-2 career edge over Coach Pedersen in head to head competition and allowed the Msytics to retain their one game lead in the Howe division ahead of the Strange Highways. Next week, the Mystics will meet up with the streaking Retreads while the Swords play PMS.

Streaking Retreads Win 31-15 With Balanced Attack

The only early scoring came from a Kurt Warner TD pass for the Retreads, giving them a 4-0 lead. After Randy Moss caught a TD and passed 100 yards to give PMS a short lead, Eric Moulds caught a TD to put the Retreads back on top 10-8. The Retreads made it 18-8 on a Robert Holcombe TD and Edgerrin James' 100 yard game. A Jason Elam FG made the score 19-11. Mushin Muhammad scored a TD for the Retreads to make it 25-11 and two Elam PATs made it 25-13. A pair of Jason Elam PATs were neutralized by two John Carney FGs for the Retreads bringing the final score to 31-17. The Retreads improve to 2-0 lifetime against PMS.
