1998 Week 7 Newsletter

  • This week’s high scoring team: Palace of Swords, with 50, capture high points for the week.

This week’s stooge: The Retreads prove that they are, in fact, human after all as they scored only 11 points for the week. They are still #2 in league scoring for the season however.

    Letter from the Commish:

The Commish is finally back at league headquarters for more than a coffee break. Now if only he can get his other constituents off his back, perhaps things will settle back to normal. Let me be brief. Coach Will has moved several times since draft day but has now settled into his current location at 571-6805 (we think). He continues to call mid week to see how many points his team scored. This always strikes the Commish as odd given that we think it’s Coach Will’s voice on the machine giving his starting lineup every Sunday. Coach Widtfeldt is away scouting next year’s rookies in Paris until November 2, arriving back in the heartland in time to cast his vote against Bill Clinton in the ’98 Congressional elections. Coach Young has been quiet as a mice on Christmas eve while suffering the pain of a 2-4-1 start. Coach Wassem’s team continues to be in most every game but doesn’t have the horses to win any of them. His losing streak has reached five. Coach Pedersen is collecting running backs in ’98 whereas it was receivers he collected in ’97. But he’s winning, having just taken over 1st place in the Howe division. Coach Nerz has started to build a head of steam but suffers from being in the Howe division, otherwise known as the heavyweight class. Coach Stamer’s squad has been an enigma, scoring only 28, 25, 22, 22, and 12 points over the past five games after scoring 41 opening week. Coach Rady’s team has scored only 24 points each of the last two weeks but is 2-0. Coach Detwiler’s Retreads finally fell to earth with only 11 points in Week 7 but must still be considered a championship caliber team. Coach Unger’s team has scored between 20-31 points each week for the past five. The Iguanas have been up and down but have played well the past two games and, at 5-2, look like they’ll come out unscathed in the Dewey division. PMS, like the Mystics, are having trouble scoring points most weeks.

    Go deep, I’ll throw it!

Swords Take Howe Lead In Win Over Highways

The Palace of Swords took sole possession of 1st place in the Howe division by virtue (?) of their 50-33 defeat over long time rival Strange Highways. The Highways, coming off a shutout performance last week, got off to a good start as Brett Favre accounted for 10 points Thursday night. The Swords countered with Freeman’s 2 TD catches the same night then stormed back in the Sunday noon games behind Del Greco’s 14 and 8 each from Tony Martin and Randall Cunningham. The Swords are 5-1-1 while the Highways (4-3) have dropped three in a row.

Grande Has Party At Bone Club Expense 37-15

The Bone Club continued its slow slide from its 1995 FFL championship squad, dropping to 2-4-1 with a 37-15 loss to Grande To The Party. Party’s win places it in a 2nd place tie at 5-2 with the Retreads in the Howe division. While the Party racks up wins, it continues to rely heavily on Steve Young. Young’s 23 points put him on the list of all time single game scoring marks for a QB. For the Party’s sake, Young better not get hurt.
