DESCRIPTION
|
Handicap |
Two wrestlers take on one other wrestler. |
Tag Team |
Two teams of two wrestlers compete with one wrestler from each team
in the ring at a time. A wrestler may trade places with his partner
by slapping his partner's hand. |
Steel Cage |
A steel fence structure is erected on the ring apron. One wins
the match either by climbing out of the cage or by scoring a fall. |
First Blood |
In this match, the person who draws blood on their opponent first wins. |
Last Man Standing |
A no disqualification match with no falls. When one of the competitors
cannot make it to their feet before the referee reaches a count of ten. |
I Quit |
A no disqualification match in which there are no falls. |
Triangle |
Three wrestlers compete against each other at the same time.
The first person to score a fall wins. |
6 Man Tag |
A tag match with three wrestlers on each team instead of two, with
the same rules as a normal Tag Team match. |
Hell In A Cell |
A variation of a Steel Cage Match in which a cage is constructed around
the ring from floor area, creating a space between the ring and the cage.
Also, there is a roof on the cage. The point of the match is to score
a fall. |
Lumberjack |
Other wrestlers surround the outside of the ring and throw the competitors
back into the ring if they are thrown out of it. |
4 Corners |
A match in which four wrestlers fight each other, similar to a tag
match except any wrestler can tag any of their opponents. |
4 Corners Tag Match |
Four Tag Teams compete, one team in each corner, with a total of two
wrestlers in the ring at a time. Either of the legal men came tag
any of the wrestlers on the outside regardless of their team, making it
possible for two partners to be tagged in against each other. The
first team to score a fall wins. The WWF has made a rule that you
cannot pin your own partner. |
Dog Collar |
Two wrestlers compete against each other in a normal match with the
exception that the are attached at the neck by a chain and can use the
chain however they like. |
Hardcore Rules |
The name of this match is a little deceiving because this is essentially
a match without rules. There are no disqualification, no count outs
and falls count anywhere. |
Luchadore (spl?) |
A 6 Man Tag match made famous by Latino wrestlers. This match
has normal rules except there are no countouts and when a wrestler is thrown
out of the ring or jumps out, they may be replaced in the ring by a teammate
without requiring a tag. |
Caribbean Strap |
Each competitor has a leather strap which the can beat their opponent
with. The winner is the person who touches all four of the turnbuckles
consecutively while dragging their opponent with the strap. |
Mixed Tag |
A Tag Team match with the exception that each team must consist of
one male and one female. |
Lion's Den |
A no holds barred match in a octagon cage like structure. The
winner must defeat their opponent by submission. |
Dumpster |
A no disqualification match in which the winner must place his opponent
in a dumpster at ringside and close the lid. |
Casket |
The same concept as the Dumpster Match except a casket is used instead
on a dumpster. |
Inferno |
Fire surrounds the wrestling ring and the winner is the person who
sets his opponent on fire. |
Crimson Rain |
An extremely brutal cage match in which barbed wire is lower from the
roof of the cage at certain time intervals. This match is banned
in every state except California and New Mexico. |
Ladder |
A no disqualification match in which an item, usually a title, is hung
above the ring. The winner uses a ladder to get that item down. |
Falls Count Anywhere |
Most commonly a no disqualification match. There are no countouts
and a competitor is allowed to score a pinfall or submission anywhere. |
_________ On A Poll |
Similar to a ladder match, however, in this match, an item is placed
on a pole over a turnbuckle. |
Flag Match |
Two competitors from different countries have their country's flag
placed on a pole over opposite turnbuckles. The winner is the person
who gets their country's flag off of the pole. |
Tuxedo |
Two male competitors fight in tuxedos. The winner is the person
who strips his opponent down to his underwear. |
Evening Gown |
Two female competitors fight in evening gowns. The winner is
the person who strips her opponent down to her underwear. |
Buried Alive |
A no disqualification match in which the winner must bury his or her
opponent in a six foot deep grave which is dug before the match. |
Battle Royal |
A match in which many participants battle against each other.
Usually, two competitors start and another competitor joins them every
minute until all competitors have been eliminated. A participant
may be eliminated by pinfall, submission, or by throwing your opponent
over the top rope and both feet hit the floor. |
Tornado |
A two-on-two match in which all participants are in the ring at the
same time. The winning team is the team which has at least one of
its members remaining. A participant may be eliminated by pinfall
and submission. When one person is eliminated, it becomes a two-on-one
for the other team. |
Best 2 out of 3 Falls |
The winner is the person who scores 2 falls before their opponent scores
two. Falls may be scored by pin or submission. |
Brawl For All |
A match introduced by the WWF in 1998. It is a 3 round boxing
style match with only punching and tackling allowed. Points are scored
for knockdowns, take downs and for landing the most punches in one round.
The winner is the person with the most points at the end of the third round
or the person who knocks out their opponent. |
Mask vs. Mask |
A match in which two participants whose wrestling attire includes a
mask fight each other with the stipulation that the loser must remove their
mask and is not permitted to wear another mask. |
Hair vs. Hair |
The same ideas as the Mask vs. Mask match, however, the loser of this
match must allow their opponent to shave their head after the match. |
Boiler Room Brawl |
This match is known as Mankind (Mick Foley)'s match. The two
combatants battle in an arena boiler room with no disqualifications and
no ring. There are two possible ways to win this match which is explained
prior to the match. One participant must either score a pinfall or
get out of the boiler room. |
Kendo Stick |
A match in which the two participants are given a wooden stick.
The point of this match is to knock your opponent off his/her feet suing
the Kendo stick. |
Iron Man |
A 60 minute match in which the competitors battle for the full 60 minutes.
Whomever scores the most falls (pinfall or submission) in this time period
wins the match. If there is a tie, a sudden death overtime period
begins and whomever scores the first fall wins the match. |
Blindfold Match |
A match in which atlas one of the competitors is blindfolded.
The same rules of a regular match apply. |
Cast |
A no disqualification match in which one or both of the competitors
are placed in casts. The winner is the first to score a fall. |
Straight Jacket |
A match in which one or both of the competitors are put in a straight
jacket. The rules of a regular match apply. |
Tag Team Tables |
No countouts, no disqualification tag team match. There are to
different variations. The winning team must either put both of their
opponents through tables before both of them are put through tables, or
they must put both opponents through tables consecutively. Also,
in some variations, once you are put through a table, you are eliminated. |
Double Tables |
The winner must put his opponent through two tables, stacked on top
of each other. |
Flaming Tables |
The winner must put his opponent through a table which is set on fire. |
Gorilla Press Slam |
The winner must Gorilla Press Slam his opponent (Lift opponent overhead
in a bench press motion). |
Iron Circle |
Two opponents battle in an "anything goes" fight encircled by cars.
The winner is the first person who can successfully leave the circle. |
Bloodbath |
A bucket of preverbial "blood" is placed in a bucket, outside the ring.
The winner must pour the liquid on his opponent. |
Good Housekeeping |
A regular "No Holds Barred" type matchup with the exception being that
regular household objects may be used as weapons. First known occurance:
Jeff Jarrett vs. Chyna at WWF's 1999 No Mercy PPV. |
Gauntlet |
A series of one-on-one matches in which one
wrestler must face several opponents right after each other. This
match usually has normal rules, except once you pin you opponent or defeat
him by submission, another opponent comes out until all participants on
the opposing team have been defeated or until the wrestler facing the team
is defeated. |
Scaffold |
A match on a platform suspended above the ring. To win you must
knock your opponent off the platform. |
Barbed Wire |
An anything goes match in which the ring ropes are replaced with barbed
wire. |
Kennel From Hell |
Hell in a Cell (larger sized Cage with roof) is paced over a normal
Steel Cage. Dogs run between the two cages. The winner is the
first person to get out of both cages. |
Human Torch |
No holds barred, the winner must set his opponent on fire. |
_______ First |
First person to execute a certain move (set before the match) wins. |
Double Jeopardy |
Match consisting initially of four competitors. Two 1-on-1 singles
matches take place in the same ring at the same time. The winners
of each of the singles matches then face off against eachother. |
