Campoli named Blasters Captain

YONKERS, N.Y. -- JAM founder Mike Campoli has been named captain of the Ghettoblasters for the 2001 JAM.

Campoli, 25, replaces Chris Crowley, who had led the Boom Boxers/Blasters franchise to five JAM Cup victories in its eight years. Crowley was forced to give up his captaincy last June 24 as the Patches defeated the Blasters 10-9 in J2K, a "loser loses his franchise" event.

"It's time for us to start making some changes," Campoli said. "We've got to change the way we eat, change the way we sleep and change the way we treat one another. You see, the old way wasn't working, so we've got to find a new way to survive."

Campoli founded the JAM in 1993 and has led its growth from a small gathering of friends to a highly anticipated annual celebration of softball. He has won the JAM Cup five times as a Boom Boxer and a Ghettoblaster, and he won the MVJ Trophy in 1993 and 1995.

Crowley will remain with the Blasters as an assistant captain.

This year's JAM, entitled "2001: A JAM Odyssey," will be played June 23 at Cook Field.
