Contour Map Features: Know these features

-Closely spaced contour lines indicate channge in elevation is rapid and slope is steep

-Lines almost touching indicate a very steeep slope or cliff.

-Lines in V-shaped indicate a valley. V-shaaped with a stream or river- V points in direction from which water flows. Always flows from higher to lower elevation.

-Closed loops indicate a hilltop or depression. Short straight lines or Hachures indicate a depression.
