Araque Leads Offense, Krajeski Leads Defense As Knights Win Championship Game - Ithaca High School - The good news is the Lady Knights won the Central New York Classic. The bad news is that the championship game was a struggle. Maybe it was the fact that they had already clinched first place. Maybe it was overconfidence, having cruised through the first three games with dominance. Maybe fatigue was setting in after the long weekend. Maybe it was the fact that the Upstate Ladies wanted to avenge a 35 point loss the day before in their home town. Whatever the reason, the result was a victory, but not a typical game for the Hudson Valley squad. Although there were moments that the Knights looked sharp, the intensity was not present for the entire game. - Southern Connecticut State College -
Once a few minutes
of the game elapsed, the Hudson Valley Lady Knights kicked into high gear.
They pressed, they executed on offense, and took advantage of mistakes.
Eight minutes into the game the result was not in doubt as their first
game of the season was a run away victory. The Lady Knights passed very
well and consistently had great looks at the basket. On the receiving end
was the trio of leading scorers. Maureen VanVorst and Inara Coleman each
scored 12 points, while Ally Araque put in 11, including one trey. The

as every player scored. The guards did their damage from the outside as
Jessica Pastre had 7 points, Kelly Gillen added 5, and Casey Krajeski
contributed 4 to the attack. On the boards, Christina Buso (3 points) led
the team with 8 rebounds, while VanVorst and Lisa Pritzlaff (4 points)

Fall On Last Second Shot - Araque, Gillen, Krajeski Lead Knights'
Defense - Fairfield University - The
Lady Knights squared off against the Connecticut Starters 16 year old silver
team and showed the depth and versatility that will likely be their trademark
this season. In an exciting game that saw the Hudson Valley squad erase
an 11 point deficit in the first half and overcome a 6 point margin in
the second half. The Lady Knights held a 2 point lead with 11 seconds remaining
in the game, but a trey and a foul shot with less than 1 second to go,
left the Knights with their first loss of the season. The Hudson Valley
squad was cold in the first half as they fell behind 21-10. The defense
broke down, allowing several fast break points. The offense passed well,
but did not finish on some nice inside feeds. The Lady Knights went on
an 8-0 run to start the second half with solid execution of inbounds plays
and hard work on the offensive boards. Maureen VanVorst (6 points) and
Casey Krajeski ( 2 points, 4 steals) lead a strong rebounding effort, combining
for 17 rebounds including 10 on the offensive end. Ally Araque and Kelly
Gillen each scored 9 points and led the defense by getting 6 steals and
12 rebounds. Inara Coleman scored 6 points, while Lisa Pritzlaff and Christina
Buso each added 3. Dianna Ravinsky, Heather Lynch, and Jill Slesinski each
added a basket to round out the scoring. Although the Lady Knights shot
only 26% from the floor, they hung in their with a competitive 16 year
old team. A positive sign for the rest of the season.

Battle National Team - Slesinski, Pritzlaff, Buso Spark Offense
- Fairfield University - In
their last game of the weekend, the Hudson Valley Lady knights faced the
Connecticut Starters 15 gold team. This team placed 5th in the Nationals
last year. The Lady Knights battled for 32 minutes and when the game was
over, the Lady Knights were 2 points short. This was an impressive showing
for a team playing only their 4th game together, against this high caliber
opponent. Although the Knights were outsized, Christina Buso scored 8 points
and grabbed 6 rebounds, while Maureen VanVorst added 4 points and 7 boards.
The Lady Knights had some troubles against the full court press, but always
managed to keep the game within 10 points. Lisa Pritzlaff (8 points) and
Casey Krajeski (4 points) each had 2 steals and 4 rebounds, and helped
pace the offense combining for 7 assists. Drives to the basket and excellent
execution on inbounds plays, they often found Jill Slesinski for an open
shot. Slesinski ended the game with 13 points. Kelly Gillen and Inara Coleman
combined to score all of their 9 points in the second half. Heather Lynch
and Ally Araque each added 2. The Lady Knights kept it close to the very
end, and although Pritzlaff's 3 pointer at the buzzer was dramatic, the
Lady Knights were still 2 points short. HV Knights 50 - Connecticut
