Knights Fall To Crystal City Stars - Ithaca High School - 4/30/00 - The Lady Knights faced the other undefeated team in their pool, the Crystal City Stars, and found the going difficult. With good size and speed, the Knights had a tough time in both their inside game and running the break. They had to rely on their outside shooting, which was off. Tough defense by the Stars made the Hudson Valley offense work hard for good looks and the Knights could not capitalize on the opportunities. Despite shooting 6-29 (20%) from the floor and missing 6 free throws in the first half, the Knights kept the game in reach, trailing by 9 at the half. Shooting woes continued in the second half as the Hudson Valley squad managed only 5 field goals in route to scoring 14 points in the second half. The scoring was balanced but not nearly enough to stay with the Stars. Allie Sullivan and Lisa Pritzlaff led the scoring with 7 and 5 points respectively. Christina Buso, Maureen VanVorst, and Lauren Martinez each added 4 points. Kristin Vilardi and Jill Slesinski each netted 3, Kim Boone added 2, while Casey Krajeski and Inara Coleman connected on a free throw to round out the scoring. A Vilardi trey and a 7-0 run by the Belles closed the half, and the Knights found themselves down 38-34. Despite giving up size, some early foul difficulties, and converting only 8 of 18 free throws, the Knights played hard and well. Vilardi opened the second half with a trey and an offensive putback. Casey Krajeski (3 points) drove down the lane and dished to Allie Sullivan to keep the Knights close. The Belles went back to the inside game and after posting a 15-0 run, opened up a 61-42 lead. Pritzlaff, Martinez Pace Offense,
As Knights Are Eliminated By Quest - Ursuline School - 5/10/00 -
In a 3rd round matchup against the defending champs (the Quest) the Hudson
Valley offense continually looked to find their chemistry. Maybe it was
the Quest defense, but the Lady Knights frequently found the shot clock
winding down and needing someone to make a play. Lauren Martinez hit a
jumper to break the ice, then Lisa Pritzlaff scored 6 points to give the
Knights an 8-2 lead. After a small run by the Quest, a jumper from Jill
Slesinski and a Martinez lay up gave the Knights a 12- 6 margin. After
another Quest rally, the Knights trailed by 2. A trey by Dianna Ravinsky
and a nice fast break dish from Martinez to Kim Boone put them back on
top. The Knights increased their lead by taking it to the hoop. Pritzlaff
used a spin move from the baseline, Christina Buso had a strong take down
the lane, Casey Krajeski scored from the low post, and Allie Sullivan closed
the run with a drive down the right block. In this back and forth game,
the Knights lead was once again cut to 3. As the Quest continued to score,
the Lady Knights needed a Martinez jumper and a trey to keep their lead
at 4. After Pritzlaff used an offensive rebound to convert a 3 point play,
Martinez found Buso (4 points) on a nice cut to the basket for a score.
The Knights had built a 5 point lead, but the Knights would stall to close
the half. The Quest used a turn over near the buzzer to finish a 7-0 run
and take a 37-35 lead over the Knights. The Knights continued to play well
through the second half and managed to tie the game a few times but never
regained the lead. A Slesinski jumper as the shot clock buzzer went off
tied the game at 40. Stepping behind the arc, Slesinski (7 points) then
hit a trey. Krajeski (4 points) took a loose ball and went end to end for
2. After Maureen VanVorst converted on the trailing end of a fast break,
and connected on a free throw, the Knights had once again tied the game
at 50. After the Quest took a 60-50 lead, the Lady Knights once again looked
for a spark. Martinez scored 6 points to cut into the deficit, and a Sullivan
( 5 points) jumper put the Knights within 6 points. As the clock approached
1 minute remaining, Pritzlaff connected on a trey to creep within 3. The
Knights would get no closer and lose the game by a final score of 68-63.
Pritzlaff (18 points) and Martinez (17 points) paced the offense with a
take it to the hoop game. On the glass, VanVorst and Pritzlaff each grabbed
7 rebounds. HV Lady Knights 63 - NW Quest 68

Knights Fall Prey To Eagles
- Yale University - 5/20/00 - The Hudson Valley Knights squared
off against the American Eagles, a national team from the Albany area.
The Knights were out manned, out sized, and out quicked. Some of the stats
were ugly.
-
Going the first 6 minutes without a score, while committing 7 turn overs
-
Scoring only 10 points in the first half
-
Shooting 27% from the floor with no treys
-
In the physical game the Knights went to the line only 11 times
-
31 Turn overs in the game
-
Only 9 offensive rebounds
Despite all these "statistical" problems, the
Knights found a way to hang in there, and with a late run, made it a 4
point game. With no good looks at the basket from the outside, the Lady
Knights were forced to work hard executing their offense. A Kristin Keller
(8 points) cut to the basket and a couple of free throws by Lisa
Pritzlaff (8 points), put the Knights on the board. A nice give and go
by Keller and Lauren Martinez (2 assists, 2 points) was followed by a nifty
reverse layup from Christina Buso (4 points). Kristin Vilardi (4 points)
closed the first half scoring with a layup on a feed from Buso. The Hudson
Valley squad had troubles against the press in the second half and fell
behind by 13 points. Near the end, the Knights went on a run and made a
valiant effort to get back in the game. Inara Coleman scored on an inbounds
play and Pritzlaff knocked down a couple of free throws. After a
transition basket and a nice lob from Martinez to Keller, the Knights had
closed within 4 with 12 seconds remaining. Jill Slesinski scored
2 points in the game and added 4 assists. Maureen VanVorst also posted
2 points and pulled in 6 rebounds. The Lady Knights held the Eagles to
36 points but only managed to score 32. It was a very physical and hard
fought game, in which the Knights came up a little short. HV Lady Knights

Ravinsky, Sullivan, Buso Spark Offense To Rob Bandits - Yale University - 5/21/00 - The game started slow with the Knights taking a strong defensive stand. The Hudson Valley squad played on the defensive end for the first 1:30 of the game and the Bandits came away empty. After a putback by Lisa Pritzlaff (8 points) and a pair of free throws by Kristin Keller, it was Christina Buso that sparked the offense. She scored 4 points on the inside, giving the Knights an 8-4 lead halfway through the period. The solid Knights defense made some mistakes and the offense stalled. After falling behind by 5 points, it was jumpers by Allie Sullivan and then Dianna Ravinsky that brought the Hudson Valley squad within 3 at the half (12-15). The sluggish offense needed a boost, and they found it with a 9-0 run to start the second half. They regained the lead on 2 assists by Buso. She found Ravinsky for a jump shot and then Lauren Martinez on a back door cut. A Martinez drive for a 3 point play and another Ravinsky jumper gave the Knights a 19-15 lead they would never relinquish. The Knights shot 62% from the floor in the second half to break out of their shooting woes. Ravinsky scored 10 of her game high 12 points in the half, while Sullivan (8 points) added 6 to pace the second half outburst. The Knights defense stayed strong as they went on to win 41-26. Martinez, Ravinsky Hit Key Shots As Knights Skate By Canadian Team - Yale University - 5/21/00 - In the final game of the tournament, the Lady Knights took on the Atlantic Select team, hailing from the Nova Scotia, New Brunswick area. It may not have been the best game they played, but it was the most exciting. The Hudson Valley squad fell behind early and constantly battled to keep the game close. Over the first several minutes the only offense the Knights could muster was a putback by Allie Sullivan and a Kim Boone score off an inbounds play. The Knights were trailing 8-4 when Inara Coleman and Christina Buso went to work on the inside. Coleman drove to the basket twice and converted one field goal and a pair of free throws. Buso's drive also resulted in 2 free throws and tied the game at 10. Atlantic hit a few outside shots to once again take the lead. After a dish from Ravinsky to Buso found its way into the hands of Lauren Martinez, the Knights closed the deficit to 2. The Hudson Valley squad went into the half trailing 19-15. To start the second half Lisa Pritzlaff hit a turn around jumper in the lane. The Knights used some defense to create opportunities. A Kristin Keller block was picked up by Jill Slesinski who found Pritzlaff ahead of the break for 2. Next trip down court, Slesinski stole a pass at the point and went in for an easy basket. Hudson Valley had crept within 2 at the 12 minute mark. Select went on a 6-0 run with the help of some long shots that went off the glass. With luck seemingly going against them, the Knights seemed to be playing a little frustrated. Offensive putbacks by Martinez and Keller broke the run with 7:30 left to play. Sullivan connected on pair of free throws and Slesinski hit Maureen VanVorst with a long pass on the break. Kim Boone scored on a cut to the basket to tie the game at 31. Working their offensive set, Pritzlaff found a lane, penetrated, and kicked it out to Dianna Ravinsky in the corner. She drained the deuce, putting the Knights back on top. Boone added a fast break basket at the buzzer to ice the game, a 40-36 victory. The Hudson Valley squad showed their balance as each player made key contributions during the game. VanVorst, Buso, Sullivan, Power Inside Game As Knights Hang On To Win - St. Anselms College - 5/28/00 - As the story goes, we did not shoot well, we were sloppy against the press, and we got in early foul trouble, other than that we played a pretty good game. Boone, Ravinsky Pace Knights As Late Rally Grounds Lightning - St. Anselms College - 5/28/00 - If you thought the last game was an ugly win ........ The Knights seemed to have the intensity dial way down in this game. On a scale of 1 (tenderness) to 10 (aggressiveness) they started the game at a 3. The offense only generated 18 points in the first half and relied on a strong defensive effort by Kim Boone to maintain a lead at the half. She had 4 steals in the period to help hold the Massachusetts Lightning to 16. Dianna Ravinsky opened the scoring from the outside and then found Christina Buso on the inside for another 2. After many practices "INVERT" finally worked. Running through the offensive options, Buso rolled off a high pick away from the ball and received a lob from Lisa Pritzlaff. Allie Sullivan (4 points) hit a reverse layup, and a Pritzlaff (7 points) trey put the Knights ahead 11-10. Hudson Valley needed a Buso (6 points) take to the basket and an offensive put back by Boone to finish the half with 18 points, holding a 2 point lead. After Boone scored on a fast break to open the second half, the Lightning went on a run. They hit from the outside, hit from the inside, scoring 9 unanswered points, holding the Knights scoreless for 6 minutes. Despite a bad shooting game, the Knights hit 6 outside shots during the late run (VanVorst -2, Ravinsky-2, Pritzlaff, Sullivan). Although the narrow court was a problem for the Knights early, they used it to their advantage during the rally. Picking up their defensive intensity, they pushed the Lightning offense away from the basket forcing 4 turn overs as they received passes out of bounds. It was far from pretty, but it goes up as a W. Knights Strong At Future Stars
The Lady Knights gathered for a
September tournament. Shaking off some rust and perhaps a little out of

shooting was a little off, the intensity was high and they played together.
Winning 2 of 3 games against solid teams was a great way to finish the
a season that saw the Hudson Valley Lady Knights post 27 wins against
17 losses.
