Willamette Ultimate Hat Trick

September 23, 2000   Corvallis, Oregon

Welcome to the Home Page for the inaugural Willamette Ultimate Hat Trick. We've just secured fields, so it's a Go! Mark Sept 23 on your calendar. It's a Saturday. And in Corvallis, we promise it will be sunny. (Everywhere else… rain!) We hope to attract players, rookies and veterans, from around town and around the valley.

Here's the vision. One day of spirited ultimate play and spirited service in the community. Three games in the morning. Eat lunch. Then, three ways to give: food, money, service. That's the Hat Trick theme. Give it up on the fields, then give it up off the fields. And have fun meeting, playing, and working with new people.

Start off with…

Play in the morning, Hat tourney style. Max four teams, full co-ed. Three hour-long games before lunch on the Peavy Fields (at OSU). We'd love to have Gender Balance numbers, with equal numbers of men and women on each team.

Eat lunch. We're working on providing a good meal for free.

Work in the afternoon - as in service projects. Likely, each team will break up into two work crews. We're working with United Way to get a number of kick-ass projects. Jennifer Hurd, of the Benton County office, will be around making sure everyone gets what he or she needs. Maybe we could even pull projects out of a hat…

Party in the evening. Low key. Drink some (root) beer. (Note: this event is very open to the under-21 crowd!) Have a slice of pizza. Kick back. Brag about injuries. Be happy you can sleep in on Sunday.

Registration form. We ask you that you pre-register, primarily so we can organize service projects (also for the free lunch!). Click on the link, print out the page, and mail it to me (address at the foot of this page). You can e-mail it to me, but it'd be difficult to send in the…

Registration fee: We're working on getting corporate sponsorship and local business support. If that works out, there will be no fee. We'd be able to feed everyone the standard field food, plus a real lunch.

We do ask for a donation, $5 - $15 - $other, which will go straight to Community Outreach. Actually, when you write the check, make it payable to them. Here's a link to this great local group: Community Outreach Web page. Also, we've got discs in the works, which is another way we can raise funds.

We also ask that you round up as much non-perishable food as you can find in your, and your neighbors', kitchens. The team that collects the most food will be awarded a special prize.

If you've got no food and no money, come and give your day. Note that the working is not optional--we all play together, we all work together.

More details will be posted, as the date draws nearer. I'm gone the week of Aug 21 - but either of us would love to hear from you, if you've got questions, ideas, or are interested in helping out. If you've got skills or resources that could really make a project go, let one of us know. And, spread the word… let's all make this happen.

We’re putting time into this because we believe it can work. Even if there are only ten people there, I'm sure we'll still have a great time. But with forty or fifty, man what a day! We're giving it a go, and hope you will too. Thanks, and look forward to hearing from you.
