that, is the reason this
fight segment is here.
plenty of injustices in this world, who can address them all? who can fight them all? racial discrimination. hunger. genital mutiliation. religious wars. utopia is a mere concept to fantasize about, our reality is far from that.
i choose to endorse the GLBT (Gay Lesbian Bisexual Transgender) issues partly because of an inspirational trip I made to Minneapolis, Minnesota in Spring 2000. Where I met vibrant GLBT members who introduced to me their pain - to be deserted by their loved ones, their religion, and in some cases, even themselves.
that Minneapolis trip, i also helped out at a AIDS "day care" resource center, where i also met some heart-wrenchingly endearing AIDS patients. true, the earliest AIDS victims were gays, during the 1980s. but AIDS isn't just about the supposed "unnatural sex" anymore. i met a guy who got infected by some guy who attacked him one day in the streets, for no good reason, with an knife stained with infected blood. and another guy who got it from his wife who has already died from the infection from a cosmetic surgery. random people. random bad luck.
did you watch Boys Don't Cry? did you read about Matthew Shephard? how about the memorial quilt? all these is but the tip of the iceberg. they are symbols, designed to appeal to the common people, hoping to attract enough of your attention to let you know the millions more stories behind them. the millions more individuals, each with their own story to tell.
sometimes, a cause remains just a politically correct thing to pursue, and eventually give up, until you meet the victims and actually see and feel the pain. If a year after you see those tears and you still dream of them, you know you have to do something about it. which is why i'm doing this now.
GLBT issues are inevitably related to religion, yet another sensitive issue i'm already too tired to go into. i am a free thinker. the only argument i have for all those overly zealous religious people is : are you saying you can decide for God? Is He as simple as that? That mere little mortal you can speak for him? Get a grip, dude.
i've not decided which [GLBT or AIDS] issue i want to specialise in, i know i eventually have to choose, cos both areas are just too much to handle at the same time. but until i make up my mind, this is more or less just a combination resource page for both. i am not as ambitious as to try to persuade the haters into supporters. i don't write or argue as well as i wish i can. but at least i want to show that i'm a supporter.
because that's what i believe the meaning of utopia truly is - mutual support, and love. we'll never get there, but we can try with the strength, time, and power of our lives.
