Rookie RB John Avery out of the University of Mississippi rushed for two second-half touchdowns, lifting the Dolphins over the 49ers by one. The 49ers took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Steve Young found Terrel Owens for a 72-yard TD. The Dolphins tied it up in the second when Dan Marino hit Charles Jordan in stride for a 37-yard TD on 3rd and ten. Young and Owen connected again to cap an eighty yard drive.
Believe it or not Young and Owens connected again for a 26 yard TD. The extra point was no good which would kill the 49ers later on. John Avery ran a two yarder to end the third quarter. Miami took its first lead of the game when Avery broke out for a 71-yard TD run. The 49ers couldn't even get into the Dolphins territory in their last five possesions.
