1994-95 So Near Yet So Far

I still remember this year where United were so close to winning the double again. How fustrating to see on the last day of the season, United need a win over West Ham to win the title. United draw that game 1-1, which handled the title to Blackburn.

The Premiership season is full of wonderful battles, United fought well, but defeats at Everton (a), Ipswich Town (a) and Liverpool (a) proved to be the difference in winning and losing. United in this season also registered their best win of 9-0 thumping against Ipswich Town at home.

This season also remember the darkest day of Alex Ferguson reign as Coach. Eric Cantona, the inspirational United forward was sent off at Crystal Palace following an off the ball shoving of Palace Defender Richard Shaw. A Palace fan shouted some racist taunts at him and Cantona broke away from the escot by the United staff and aim a kick at that foul mouth supporter. Eric Cantona was banned by the FA till Oct 1. With Cantona out, Blackburn took pole position and held out.

Manchester United's FA Cup run is excellent especially in the semi-final game against Crystal Palace where United fought out an epic 2-2 draw coming twice from behind. Two more goals in the replay won the game for United. Everton proved to be United's borgy team where they won 1-0 in the final at Wembly, with a lucky goal from Stuart.
