Comments from the Commissioner

12/16

I will spare most of the bragging for my winning the JFL championship. The fact that I won is proof that luck, more than having the best team is the only way to win a championship. The game was unfortunately not very close, but Grandma's Picks should be commended for getting as far as they did.

I hope everyone had a fun season. I think this year's teams were more balanced than ever which was good. Thanks to Dan, for getting the web page up and working, and for providing the extra touches, like this week's pictures.

Here is the JFL AllStar Team. Players were picked based on overall average score, appearances in the "JFL Bests" lists, and consistency.

QB: Bret Favre. 3711 Passing, 33 Ptd, 188 rush, Td: 18.1 ppg.
I picked Favre over the higher scoring Kordell Stewart because he was more consistent, and made a league high four appearances in the "bests" list. If Kordell had been on the active roster of the Revenge for more than half the games, I might have changed my mind.

RB1: Barry Sanders. 1869 rush, 295 rec, 13 Td: 19.5 ppg.
Simply amazing. Barry had two bad games at the beginning of the season, but had turned in a 100 yard game every time since.

RB2: Terrell Davis. 1722 rush, 287 rec, 14 Td: 18.9 ppg.
Slightly less consistent than Barry, but having an amazing season. I thought he would finish with the possibly the single greatest statistical season ever at the midway point, but the recent Bronco slump has forced more passing, reducing Davis' playtime.

WR1: Rob Moore. 1493 rec, 7 Td: 12.7 ppg.
Rob came out of nowhere in the second half to finish as the top scoring receiver. No doubt this can be attributed to the emergence of Jake Plummer in Arizona. Moore was the fuel to Grandma's awesome run at the end of the season, and he deserves to make this team.

WR2: Antonio Freeman. 1180 rec, 14 rush, 11 Td: 12.3 ppg.
Freeman was consistently good all season, and isn't it easy to be when you are Bret Favre's favorite target?

TE: Ben Coates. 709 rec, 8 Td: 7.9 ppg.
Tight end had a bunch of guys who were in the 7 points per game range, but Coates topped the list. He is another guy who enjoys the "favorite target" status with a top-notch quarterback.

K: Jacksonville (Mike Hollis). 8.4 ppg.
Not much to say here. I was surprised he beat out Dallas' Richie Cunningham, managing one more point on the season.

D/SPC: San Francisco. ???? ppg.
I have a hard time with defenses because it is hard to find all the touchdowns scored. I mostly went with a team that was always pretty good, and the Niners fit the bill. Just about everyone here is a Niner's fan, so I don't think you'll argue.

MVP: Barry Sanders.
I have been debating with myself, trying to pick which of the running backs should be MVP. Davis was on a playoff team, while Sanders was on the struggling Champs. I guess that is why I picked Sanders: on Jason's great team, even the spectacular Davis had a hard time making as big an individual impact. Barry Sanders was the heart and soul of Gramp's Champs, and had he ran well in the first two games, the Champs might not have started 0 and 2, and made the playoffs, who knows? Barry is the most fun to watch too, so congratulations to him.
