Buffalo's first pick, fifth overall, in the 1983 entry draft...Acquired by Pittsburgh from Buffalo with a third round draft pick (used to select Joe Dziedzic) for Doug Bodger and Darrin Shannon on Bovember 12th, 1988...won both Vezina (as best goalie) and Calder (as best rookie) trophies in his freshman season...maintains 3.32 career goals against average...a career best 2.07 goals against in 1997-98, after missing 77 games the year before, made him a nominee for the Masterton Trophy as Comeback Player of the Year.
PLAYING STYLE
Barrasso may be the best goaltender in the league at getting back in position to make a save after a firs shot...rarely flops to the ice, mainly just drops to his knees...excellent puck handler, like a 3rd defenseman...gets his team on the counter-attack quickly...uses the glass well, and will become physical with players in or near his crease...freezes the puck frequently...does give up a lot of long rebounds and is weak low on the glove side.
