Sunday.
N. Y. Giants 7, Providence 2.
Fall River 3, Newark 0.
Brooklyn 4, Boston 2.
Monday
Bethlehem Steel 4, Newark 1.
New Bedford 4, Coats 2.
N. Y. Giants 1, Fall River 1.
Winning the two games over the weekend while Boston shared with Brooklyn, the Bethlehem Steel soccer club, American League champions, took undisputed possession of first place in the league race. The two pints dropped by Boston give the Steelmen the lead by that margin.
Bethlehem defeated Providence in Bethlehem on Saturday afternoon and on Monday avenged their defeat at the hands of Newark here several weeks ago by trimming the Jerseymen on the latter's grounds in a holiday matinee on Monday in a decisive manner.
New Bedford, also a contender for the league honors, was set back by Coats, the latter holding the Whalers to a one goal draw. With Bethlehem at the top of the league standing and only three more games to be played to conclude the first half of the schedule, hopes are running high that the Steelmen will be successful in defending their league lead in the few remaining games. However, all of the remaining games are to be played away from home. Following is the league standing to date:
