Hawthorne Field, Brooklyn, New York, where many soccer classics have been waged, will be the scene of the semi-final round of the National Cup in the Metropolitan bracket on Sunday afternoon, when Bethlehem Steel, successful defending champion in the preliminary rounds, will meet Newark, conqueror of the Steelmen in the American League Cup. The winner will advance to the final round for the Eastern championship.

Probably earlier in the season Bethlehem followers would be little concerned over the outcome of Sunday's game on Hawthorne Field but the sensational rally of the Jerseymen in recent weeks when they curbed the cup ambitions of the strongest teams in the league, is enough to refute any foregone conclusions.

Bethlehem is meeting a dangerous opponent in Newark and one that in the second cup meeting with the Steelmen will be inspired to do their best by virtue of their brilliant success in eliminating Bethlehem in the American Cup competition. This victory could hardly be accepted as a flash of exceptional good form for after putting out Bethlehem the Jerseymen, in turn eliminated, directed their attention to the National Cup and to advance to the final round had to and did dispose of such contenders as Brooklyn and Indiana Flooring.

The forward line will be strengthened with the return of Archie Stark at inside right but presents a problem of choice for the management between Johnny Granger, Johnny Rollo and George Forrest for the inside left position. The outside wings with Jaap and Goldie, and the center forward perch with Gillespie, will remain intact.

The veteran forward line of McGregor, Carnihan and McDonald will also be intact. Carnihan enjoyed a brief respite last weekend but the big captain will be back at center half on Sunday. McDonald will relieve Reid, at right half, while McGregor who played a dashing game at center half against Trenton will be back at his familiar post at left half.

It is certain that Allan, right fullback, who occupied that position in the cup classics for Bethlehem last year, will not be able for Sunday's game. In fact, the knee injury sustained by Allan in the opening round of the cup against Philadelphia has developed to be more serious than at first thought and it is doubtful if he will don a uniform again this season. While the absence of Allan is regretted nevertheless Eadie, a big strapping back, displayed enough defensive soccer against Trenton to assure the management that the position will be capably covered. At the fullback position Eadie will pair off with Barrie and the defensive barrier completed with Edwards in goal. With the exception of choice for inside left on the front line, the tam as mentioned will more than likely be the one to face Newark on Sunday:
