Archie Stark, crack center forward of the Bethlehem Steel soccer team, will probably have little or no opportunity of ascending to the top for the honors of individual goal scoring in the American League tilts over the weekend. He is now training A. Stevens of New Bedford by two goals, although the latter with a record of 40 goals has played nine more games than the Bethlehem center.
With the Ben Miller game on tap in the National Challenge Cup final next Sunday, there is doubt whether the management will play Stark in the game scheduled for this weekend at Providence. He will probably take part in the Boston game but as a precaution against injury will be withdrawn from the Providence tilt, together with several other regulars who are already selected for the lineup in the grand final.
In the event Stark will have little opportunity to overhaul Stevens, but opportunity will come in the games after the cup final, in which Bethlehem has quite a few to play to catch up to the other clubs. Even though the Steelmen may sacrifice the chance of gaining points in the league race, the club has an excellent chance to finish in at least second place. The individual scoring of the leading ten scorers to date, together with the number of games played by their clubs, follows:
