Stevens, the New Bedford center forward, suspended early in the season for the remainder of the playing schedule but reinstated several weeks ago, was the scoring ace for New Bedford. Both goals came as the result of this efforts. T he defeat was the first league setback experience by Bethlehem since December 19 when Indiana Flooring registered a victory.
New Bedford scored one goal to each half, but both were registered by Stevens on centers from Best. The home team, recently strengthened by the acquisition of Perry at right halfback, Paterson at inside right and Hampton at goal, played brilliantly.
Edwards played a magnificent game in goal for Bethlehem, having seventeen stops to contend with, compared with eleven leveled at Hampton. Following a clearance by Edwards, Best obtained possession of the ball and centered the ball to Stevens, who with a quick turn deflected it past the goaltender for the opening goal at the end of thirty-six minutes.
Fifteen minutes after the teams had crossed over, Best received from Maxwell. The outside left dribbled down the touch line and centered to Stevens, who headed past Edwards for the second and final goal.
