A threatened disappointment was converted into an afternoon of pleasant entertainment, humorous, exciting and clever, on Elizabeth Avenue on Saturday afternoon when two teams of picked players from the ranks of the Bethlehem Steel soccer team waged a battle before several hundred fans. The "Blues" beat the "Reds" 3 to 2.
Manager Easton did service in goal and as a custodian he performed with such ability as to evoke the envy of many of the goalies in the circuit. Another veteran was the congenial Bob Terris who gave as nifty a display as some of the younger blood.
Brown and Gerlach, products of the local lots, were hustled into a uniform and working with the champions, gave promise of developing into great players.
Incidentally it was the Blues that emerged victorious and while the engagement was regarded as an exclusively friendly affair, there were times when the two games seemed quite hostile. Also times when the respective individuals gave their best to outshine their fellow players. Hugh Reid and Andy Rankin were the only Reds to shove the ball past Easton for counters and while Jimmy missed these he stopped plenty. For the Blue's Archie Stark, Tommy Gillespie and Malcolm Goldie each notched a counter.
