Although the Bethlehem soccer team remained idle over the weekend, forced to by the unplayable condition of the field while every other club in the circuit engaged, the league leaders strengthened rather than impaired their standing at the top of the circuit. Bethlehem was scheduled to meet New Bedford, a club now third in the league standing.
In spite of the labor resorted to, together with the modern implements to combat the conditions, nature defied these efforts and late Friday afternoon the contest was postponed. While idle last weekend Bethlehem will have two hard games on Saturday and Sunday of this week. On the first date the league leaders will have J & P Coats in Bethlehem for a game and on Sunday will meet the Brooklyn Wanderers in Brooklyn.
With Bethlehem idle the league saw some unexpected reverses. Most drastic in the line of upsets was Newark’s 1 to 0 victory over Boston, the contending club for the league lead. Fall River took another drop and by virtue of the defeat at the hands of Providence, New Bedford advanced into third position. The standing of the league, including the games to date and the games forfeited and automatically credited as wins by the withdrawal of the Springfield club:
