INFORMATIONAL REPORT on my FINAL PROJECT:
Boy was this ever a challenge!
Preloader:
Line and radiating circle tweens placed into graphics were used as well as a shpae tween on the word"loading". This was set to loop by code in the main scene's timeline.
All images were place in a frame labelled "images" The Preloader's second last frame on the main timeline had the action to check if "images" had loaded. If so it was to goto the frame labelled "Intro2" which was the intro animation. If "Images was not loaded, it was told to go to the frame labelled "Preload" which was the first frame of Preloader.
Intro Animation:
Here's where I fell into some major set backs.
I had started off creating the intro in another movie. Well, it ended up become complicated, as i used guidelines and such for the colored bals to move along, and brought in movie clips for the background (lines and radiating circles and text with effects, and so on), and so there were many layers, and I decided to make one big movie clip, so, layer by layer I transfered everything into one movie clip called intro. I wanted to insert it into my main scene in one single frame and then use telltargetting to play it. I placed an action in the last frame of the introduction movie clip, telling it to stop, and got to the frame labelled "start" in the main scene.
for some reason this didn't work. I added a "skip intro" button in order to do the same thing. This refused to work either.
After trying various ways, and various scripts, and hitting a dead end for a few hours, I decided to move my entire working area on the main scene 187 frames over. And then I extended the "Introduction"movie clip out 187 frames (which was how many frames was in it) and that way I didn't need any "stop" or "play" or "goto" scripts inside it, and the skip intro button worked. *deep sigh*
Main Part:
Sound: The sound from the intro continues until its finished. i didn't want to chop it off. It sounded bad, so I left it.
Buttons: i decided to only put sound on the main buttons. I changed it from sound when you roll over them, to only sound when you press them, because they were getting annoying. They also interfered with the sound from the flash section, since some of the movies had sound.
MENUS:
I decided to replace my pop up menus with scrolling ones. They were more space efficient in this case.
Photoshop, Illustrator, 3D Modelling: These 3 I did similar, though I only used one piece for Illustrator. Photoshop and 3D Modeeling, both had a SCROLLING strip with pictures and 2 buttons here.(Thanks for teaching me that!)When you roll over the picture a description appears in the "descr" variable in the floating window.
When you click on a picture, the browser opens a new window with a bigger version of that picture. I tried making javascript pop-up windows. But after hours of battling with them, I finally decided they could go jump in a lake! :)
Flash section: Also did a scrolling pictures movie clip here. But when you click on them, the little movies are loaded into a container on the screen. They're pretty shorct clips, so I didn't put stop start buttons. i didn't feel they were necessary. I enjoyed this part, because, although it was a bit hard, trying to figure out why it didn't work at first, at least it did work in the end, and it didn't take "forever"!
Options section: Is here if you want to "restart" to see the intro again, and so on,...."quit"......or recall that funky little drag window, that you may have closed.
Windor (DRAG window): has a variable in it, so that the descriptions of the pictures can be displayed. Theyre is a X button on the top right hand corner to close it, and a + button on the top left to minimize it. I did this because it kin of gets in the way. I also added some "START DRAG AND STOP DRAG script to it, depending on whether the mouse was pressing and dragging it or not!
LABELS and SET VARIABLE:
The different sections for each subject were labelled. Variables were used in the titles, so when you roll over the button the variable changes to the name of the subject for that button.
SET PROPERTY:
I used this for the drag window. Whne you close it, it is actually the "visibility" property being set to "false" and when you go the the "Options" section and press on the "recall popup window" it set the visibility property for the drag window to true.
TELLTARGETTING - is used in the scrolling menus and intro, and LOAD MOVIE is used in the flash section.
INVISIBLE HIT ARES:
see the "information" section. The email and URL have invisible hit areas!
There are frome and button actions all over the place.
Thank you very much for being such a great instructor! I really enjoyed the class, and appreciated you helpfulness!
