October 22, 2002 Update

Oh, my... where to begin? Of course a lot has happened over the past year. Perhaps not quite as many life-changing events as we've gone through over the previous couple of years, but we certainly have been busy, as any parent of an infant can sympathize with I'm sure. Now, Theresa's gone through this before of course, with Claire, but this is my (Jamie) first time. And while I've felt overwhelmed at times (and... I've let myself fall horribly out of shape), this past year has just been a wonder. Watching Leanne develop, and seeing her discover things for the first time has filled me with nothing less than awe. And you know, I really shouldn't complain about being busy over the past year, because Leanne has just been wonderful. She is such a happy baby, and except for one time when she got sores on the inside of her throat, she really hasn't been sick much at all.
She is still a very big baby for her age (100th percentile in all categories at her last check-up). But as you can see from the photos, she is still very much in proportion. She started walking right around her 1st birthday, moving fairly quickly from taking tentative steps between the outstretched arms of parents to using walking as her main mode of transportation. Her eyes are darkening... they're not quite the brown of her mother's, but they've certainly moved away from the hazel of her father's. OH! And the biggest news? The debate about who she looks like is over, and with an exclamation mark. An old picture was dug up recently, and except for some minor differences (Leanne's eyes are bigger... different colour hair, etc) she looks *exactly* like.... her Grandmother Helene, Jamie's Mom. I hope to scan that photo in soon, to let you judge for yourselves, but there really is little doubt.
Leanne's biggest event of the year was probably the trip she and her Dad made back up to Ottawa. Unfortunately, her Great-Grandmother Frances passed away, and we went for the funeral. While this was a sad occasion, it did serve to let her meet for the first time a lot of people from her Dad's side of the family, including her Grandfather David.

Claire, on the other hand, went through what has to be the biggest 'life-changing' event of the family: She graduated from the only school she has known, and has entered junior high! While we were a little worried how she would handle this huge change, we really shouldn't have. Claire seems to have taken to it with no problem at all. She is using the fact that this school is much larger than her old one to make a lot of new friends, while keeping very close to her old ones. Now, if we can just get her involved in some of the extra-curricular activities :).

Jamie really hasn't been up to much. About the only new thing is that I have taken up Badminton again, after a haitus of about 13 years. I manage to sneak out of the house once or twice a week to play. Although, it'll be SO much easier to play once I get rid of this extra weight I'm carrying around.

Theresa has had a pretty good year(if I can speak for her :) ). A nice promotion at work... and a number of options on the horizon. But, it seems like she's finally gotten her wind back from all of the life changing events she went through before... because she's started herself on a new one. And then, of course, one of the ultimate life-changing events will be happening to someone... I mean, is there anything more life-changing than being born? Yes, Theresa is pregnant again! She's due sometime around the beginning of June, and that's about all we know so far. She hasn't even had her first pre-natal appointment yet! She has decided to go a slightly different way this time around, and instead of an OB-GYN, she will be going to a midwife. This was someone that we met when Theresa was pregnant with Leanne, and we really liked her a lot, so we decided to go with her straight off this time.

I think that's about all I'll write for now, but don't worry, I will fill in more details in the near future, as well as talking about new events.
