Senior Chess Championship
The Southern California Senior Championship is organized and sponsored by the
Southern California
Chess Federation (SCCF). The tournament is open to any individual 50 years
of age or older. Membership in both the SCCF ($12/year) and the
United States Chess Federation is required;
entrants can join at the tournament. This is a state championship
qualifying event.
When: January 17-18, 1998
Where: Lakeview Senior Center, 20 Lake Road, Irvine, CA 92714
Entry Fee: $35 in advance, $40 at the site.
Conditions: 4 round swiss system, 30 moves/90minutes, sudden-death/60minutes
Guaranteed Prize Fund $750; trophies also with each prize
1st-3rd prizes - $150, $100, $75
Tied at 3½ - ½ each: NM Robert Richard (1st on tie-break),
NM Carl Wagner & NM Stephen Jones
Under 2100 prize - $100
Winner with 3-1: Michael Carr
Under 1900 prize - $100
Winners with 3-1: Werner Belke (1st on tie break), Robert Engler, and
Thurlo Mishler
Under 1700 prize - $100
A 6-way Tie! at 2-2: David Heller (1st on tie break), Alina Markowski, Tom Judd,
Arsenio Caccam, Melvin Madsen, and Robert Lark
Under 1500 prize - $75
Winner with 1-3: Richard Martin
Under 1300 & unrated prize - $50
Winner with 1-3: John Hiers
Registration: 9:30 - 10:30 AM on 1/17 at the Senior Center
Rounds: 11 AM & 5 PM on 1/17; 10 AM & 4 PM on 1/18
