Magnificent Seven

In the 1996 Summer Olympics the Americans won the gold. This wonderful team was made up of a team captain which was Amanda Borden , the youngest gymnast on the team which was Dominique Moceanu, the two oldest on the team were Dominique Dawes, and Shannon Miller. Amy Chow and Jaycie Phelps performed beautifully on their routines. Last, but not least, probably the most important for winning the gold is Kerri Strug.

Amanda Borden

Amanda Borden was born on May 10, 1977. She now weighs about 108 pounds and at the height of 5 feet, 3 inches. She lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has a 25 year old brother named Bryan. Her parents names are Doug and Patti. She goes to the Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy were she is coached by Mary Lee Tracy. Amanda was the team captain in the 1996 Olympics. She kept the team going when they were down. She cheered the team up when they were sad. Amanda always listened for what her teammates' had to say, not just listened to herself.

Dominique MoceanuS

Dominique Moceanu was born on September 30, 1981. She weighs about 92 pounds and at the height of 5 feet.. She lives in Houston, Texas. She now has a new coach. She left Bela and Marta to open her own gym. The proud parents of Dominique are Dimitry and Camellia. Dominique has one 11 year old sister named Christina who admires Dominique not only for being a gymnast, but for being her older
sister.
Dominique Dawes

Dominique Dawes was born on November 20, 1976. She weighs about 110 pounds and is at the height of 5 foot 2 inches. She lives in Silver Spring/ Tacoma Park, Maryland. Her Parents are Don and Loretta. She has a 16 brother named Don, and a 27 year old sister named Danielle. Dominique trains at Hill's Gymnastics. She is coached by Kelli Hill. Dominique began gymnastics in 1983 till she found herself at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

Shannon Miller

Shannon Miller was born on March 10, 1977. She now weighs about 110 pounds and is at the height of 5 foot 2 inches. Shannon lives in Edmund, Oklahoma. She goes to train at Dynamo Gymnastics. Her coaches are Steve Nunno and Peggy Liddick. Her proud parents are Ron and Claudia. Shannon has a 18 year old brother named Troy and a sister who is 24 and named Tessa. Shannon has competed in many competitions since see was little. She has won some and loss some. When Shannon wins it is usually the gold. When she loses Shannon knows not to be offended by it, but to go out and try it again.

Amy Chow

Amy Chow was born on May 15, 1978. She weighs about 105 pounds and is at the height of about 5 foot, 3 inches. Amy lives in San Jose, California. Her parents are Nelson and Susan. She has one 16 year old brother named Kevin. Amy trains at the West Valley Gymnastics School. Her coaches are Mark Young and Diane Amos. Amy took a bad fall on the balance beam during the Olympic trials in Boston. She got right back up and continued right through. Her coach, Mark Young, was surprised Amy fell on one of her strongest events. She made the Olympic team, but had a wide scratch and a black eye for about 3 weeks. Amy was proud that she made the Olympic team.

Jaycie Phelps

Jaycie Phelps was born on September 26, 1979. She weighs about 114 pounds and is at the height of about 5 feet 3 inches. Jaycie lives in Greenfeild, Indiana. Her parents are Jack and Cheryl. Jaycie has one 23 year old brother named Dennis. She goes to train at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy with Amanda Borden. Her coaches name is Mary Lee Tracy. Jaycie's performances on the floor and balance beam got the Americans one step further of winning the gold.

Kerri Strug

Kerri Strug was born on November 19, 1977. She weighs about 116 pounds and is at the height of about 5 foot, 3 inches. Kerri lives in Tucson, Arizona. Her parents names are Burt and Melanie. She has a 26 year old brother named Kevin and a 30 year old sister named Lisa. Kerri trains at Karolyi's Gymnastics with Dominique Moceanu. Her coaches are Bela and Marta Karolyi. During the 1996 Olympics Kerri was the last member on the Americans to vault. She had sat down on her first vault. She knew she had hurt her leg. Kerri also knew the team needed a good score so she continued. On Kerri's second vault she had landed it with both feet. After she saluted the judges Kerri then collapsed in pain. The medics and her coaches ran over to her. Bela Karolyi had carried her off the floor. She had won the gold for the team, but couldn't have won it without the teams effort.
