Becca Heartman vs. Amber Taltos
Taltos bloodied but pulls out a win in Round Eleven!
Amber Taltos and Becca Heartman went at it in a ding-dong battle that took
eleven rounds to settle with both
boxers taking and dishing out heavy duty leather. Becca got the early
upper hand and decked Amber for a four count near the end of the
opening round, but Amber came back with ferocious body punching in
the second round. The third began with Amber taking it to Becca, who
was sent sprawling by a looping right, but got back up quickly and stood
her ground well. Both girls took advantage of the lax rules at Wu's and
were doing plenty of dirty work at close quarters.
Becca bloodied Amber's mouth in the fourth and kept the pressure on
early in the fifth. Amber was knocked
down by a huge right to her mouth early in the fifth round, but recovered
quickly to dish out some major payback. The infighting
got ugly in the sixth with Becca getting the upper hand again.
No part of their opponent's body appeared to be off limits to these two,
but Amber was decked by a very clean hook-to-belly, cross-to-jaw combination
midway through the stanza! Amber got up slowly at the five count and fought
back hard, but was stunned by a low blow later in the round. Amber ended
this round shaken up and bleeding badly from her mouth as well as
from a cut under her left eye. Becca pushed the pace to start the seventh and
kept Amber backing up until midway through the round, when Amber maneuvered
Becca into a corner ... and landed a huge uppercut to her jaw!
Becca collapsed on the canvas and Amber's corner may have thought it was over ...
but Becca was back on her feet at the count of four! This round ended ugly,
as they wrestled and fouled until the bell.
Amber came out firing in the eighth, but took a string of power shots to her
badly bloodied mouth ... this fight would have been stopped
in the regular WEBA as Becca worked the injury mercilessly. The ninth
was a big one for Becca as she pounded Amber around the ring.
"Midnight" again looked shaken up at the bell, but she battled on.
Becca mixed her attack to the head and body in the tenth but she
could not put Amber away. The eleventh round began with Becca
pounding on Amber, but Amber turned it around with a two-fisted
counterattack to Becca's body that had the Texan hurt ... then she uncorked a huge right to the
jaw and an uppercut that dropped Becca to the canvas!
Becca was back on her feet at the seven count, but was soon knocked
down again by a roundhouse left. She got up at the six count, shaking her
head to clear the cobwebs, but walked right into a murderous four-punch
combination that put her down for the third and final time.
Amber Taltos ended this fight battered and
bloody, but it was her glove that was raised in victory by Mister Wu as
Becca sat on the canvas looking stunned at one that had got away!
Cyan Locklear vs. Carolyn Smith
Locklear wins by spectacular KO in Round Five!
Carolyn "Cat" Smith came out boxing, but Lumbee Princess
Cyan Locklear wasn't looking
to waste any time and went right at her with a ferocious head
and body attack! Carolyn ate leather for a while, then erupted
with an explosive counterattack that had Cyan reeling against the
ropes. Cyan was driven into a corner, where Carolyn dropped her
to her knees with a brutal one-two to the body. The Lumbee
Princess struggled to beat the count ... then walked into a
blizzard of leather that her reeling before another body shot
sent her to one knee, hurt and winded. Cyan beat the count again and
the bell saved her from further punishment. Cyan recovered quickly
and came out aggressively for the second ... including a knee to
Carolyn's trunks. The Cat was obviously hurt and in major trouble
when a booming right sent her mouthpiece flying! Cyan couldn't
keep this pressure up and Carolyn got her defense in gear for most
of the rest of the round, but looked wobbly when it was over.
They traded power shots (and fouls) through the third with neither
gaining the advantage for long. Cyan began to apply more pressure
in the fifth and dumped Carolyn on the seat of her trunks after
a big flurry against the ropes late in the round. Carolyn got up
at the eight count, but fell to her knees in obvious pain after
a ferocious body shot just before the bell. Cyan gradually took
control in the fifth. Carolyn couldn't find ways to slow her down
and was knocked off her feet by a well-timed right with plenty of
time left in the round. Carolyn got up at the seven count, but was
now an open target for Cyan, who systematically picked her apart
before uncorking a roundhouse right that sent the Cat's mouthpiece
flying ... and dumped her on the canvas for the ten count!
This was a another solid performance by Locklear once she past
her big first-round scare.
Claire Freeman vs. Rose Mora
Freeman the winner in Round Eight!
"Crazy" Claire Freeman and Rose Mora battled for the right to face Transam
Lottaporn. Both landed hard shots in an evenly fought first three
rounds with relatively little rough stuff and some actual boxing!
Rose began to dictate the action in the fourth as her
hand speed and movement became the main difference in the
fight. Rose continued to land heavily and moved Claire around the ring
in the fifth, but the sixth was a different story as Claire began
to set down on her power punches and to bloody Rose's face. Rose
was in trouble as Claire's haymakers began to find their mark ...
a huge straight left sat the "Assassin" on the canvas for a short count,
and Claire kept pressing forward for the rest of the round, throwing
heavy leather with both fists. Rose was taking major damage around her
left eye ... bleeding heavily from under it, and cut above both
eyes. She suddenly had no answer for Claire's onslaught and a big
left hook decked her for a seven count just before the bell. it
began to look like Claire Freeman's fight as she continued to
pound away on Rose in the seventh. Rose mounted some
resistance but she ended the round in bad shape with both eyes
rapidly closing. It was desperation time for the "Assassin" so
she threw all she had into a big flurry to start the eighth. Claire
was backed into a corner ... and then dropped to her knees by a hook
to her body! Claire got up again quickly and Rose pressed the attack,
but Claire fought her way off the ropes and suddenly returned the
favor with a power hook to Rose's ribs ... dropping Rose to her knees
in obvious pain. Rose also got up quickly, but Claire was on top of her
again, mercilessly pounding on her already-battered left eye! Rose took
a huge series of murderous shots to the head,
any of which might have ended the fight ... then was finally decked
by a ferocious left to the jaw. Rose crumpled to the canvas, but
somehow wobbled back to her feet in time to beat the count! Rose
now needed a miracle to survive the round ... but there wasn't one
in the cards. Claire let rip a three-punch combination to Rose's head
that put her down for the final time!
Crazy Claire will fight Transam Lottaporn on the next card at Wu's,
while Rose returns to Italy to recover from a tough schedule that
matched her back-to-back with former champion Freeman and current
champion Corrigan!
Jeanette DeCarlo vs. Devon Ling
Ling wins a bloody battle in Round Nine!
Every recent battle between Jeanette DeCarlo and Devon Ling has been
a war! DeCarlo clings to the WEBA Lightweight belt that Ling
desperately wants to reclaim, and this grudge match came hard on the
heels of a razor-close split decision for DeCarlo over Ling. It was
Devon who wanted the grudge rematch at Wu's, but it was Jeanette who
came out looking to end it all quickly and pounded Devon around
the ring before decking her for a short count. Devon got up quickly
but was overwhelmed by the hard-charging Jeanette. A huge right
dumped Devon on the canvas again, and she needed help from the ring
ropes to pull herself up in time to beat the count! With just seconds
left in the round, Devon was reeling against the ropes and was sent to
her knees by a straight left ... but she beat the count again!
Jeanette took a swing at Devon after the bell out of sheer frustration,
but Wu's girl was able to stumble to her corner and fight on.
Jeanette started the second round aggressively, hoping to finish
Devon off, but Devon used her ring movement to make her miss
and work her onto the ropes. In a stunning comeback, Devon began to
take charge and decked Jeanette for a three count with
a right to the head. Jeanette was reeling for the rest of the round,
which was now the exact reverse of the first! An overhand right sent
Jeanette to her knees for a nine count but she survived until the bell.
DeCarlo also bounced back between rounds and began to get the upper hand
in toe to toe action in the third. Devon was winded by a
hook to her body late in the round and dropped to her knees for a
short count. Both fighters were now bloodied but the momentum
had shifted back to Jeanette, who mounted a furious attack in the
fourth, again trying to close the fight out. Devon was bleeding
heavily from her nose as Jeanette trapped her ina corner and
worked her over. Devon took a brutal pounding and
finally slid down the padding to the canvas, looking like a
beaten fighter ... but her warrior instinct kicked in and
she was back on her feet at the "five" count! Jeanette went full tilt
and continued to dish out punishment with Devon on the ropes, but
Devon survived the onslaught somehow. Jeanette sat quietly in her corner
getting her neck massaged as Ling's team worked on their battered fighter.
Jeanette apparently tried a "rope-a-dope" strategy in the fifth as
she let Devon come after her then suddenly exploded with a two-fisted
flurry that put Devon on the ropes ... and decked her with a
huge left to the head! Devon got up with blood streaming from
her nose ... then went toe to toe with Jeanette for the rest of
the round! The sixth round was even at first but Devon began
to land the heavier punches. She worked Jeanette's body hard, then went
upstairs to deck Jeanette with a straight left to the jaw. Both
fighters were now badly bloodied but it was Devon who kept the
pressure on in the seventh and Jeanette went to her corner looking shaky.
The eighth was a brutal affair as they both unloaded on
each other. A hook to Devon's bloody nose collapsed her on the
canvas near the end of the round. She got up after a short count but
was backed into to the ropes where Jeanette dropped her again,
this time for a seven count. The bell saved Devon from more
punishment, but she was now covered in the blood that was streaming from
her nose and this fight would have been stopped on the spot in the WEBA ...
but at Wu's Fighting Tigers, it was still up for grabs!
Jeanette was on her feet early, ready to finish Devon off, and
it didn't look like it would take much to do that. But as Jeanette
went on the attack again it soon became clear that Devon had plenty
of fight left in her. They were slugging it out
at close quarters when Devon ripped a hook to the body that jolted the
air out of Jeanette. Jeanette threw a flurry of leather back,
then was clocked by a left to the head that crumpled her on the
canvas for a seven count! Jeanette was in big trouble as she
climbed to her feet with blood streaming from her mouth
and tried to tie Devon up. Devon part
wrestled, part punched Jeanette onto the ropes, where she finally
began to pick her rival apart. It was a ferocious
ending as Devon took a now-de fenceless "Destroyer"
apart against the ropes before finally knocking her out with an
uppercut to the jaw.
Devon Ling was almost out on her feet as her glove was raised in victory.
Jeanette DeCarlo was still the official WEBA Lightweight champion, but
Ling had secured the bragging rights at the Fighting Tigers!
