Paula Goodwyn vs. Transam Lottaporn
Lottaporn batters Goodwyn to KO in Round 7
British brawler Pretty Paula Goodwyn was the first WEBA boxer to challenge
"Typhoon" Transam Lottaporn for the Fighting Tigers championship.
Nobody expected an exhibition of boxing skills, as Goodwyn is a
ferocious infighter while Lottaporn had been touted as Thailand's dirtiest
female fighter!
Transam soon showed she could hurt Paula with her body
banging style but the gritty Brit stood up to her well in the early
going. Paula started to back the Thai champion up in the second and
decked her with a perfect hook to the jaw. Lottaporn went to the canvas
heavily but beat the count and survived until the bell. Lottaporn tried
to turn the fight around early in the third but was nailed by a
great combination that sent her to the canvas again. This second
knockdown did turn the fight, but not in Goodwyn's favor! When the Thai
boxer got up from it, she began vicious in-fighting using her full
arsenal of dirty tricks .. drawing Goodwyn into clinches, holding and
hitting, low blows, head butts, kidney punching. Pretty Paula usually
loves to mix it up and held her own for a while, but she was taking
ferocious punishment to her body. Goodwyn went to her corner furious at
Lottaporn's new tactics,
and came out trying to box her in the fourth. This worked until Transam
began a series of Muay Thai style knee strikes into the British
girl's boxing trunks during the clinches. Lottaporn was fighting like a
Thai kickboxer, grabbing Paula behind her neck and using knees, elbows
and everything she could find to throw, while Goodwyn was still working
from the Marquis of Queensbury rule book! After several rounds of this
battering, Goodwyn was still hanging tough
but the punishment she had taken was seriously sapping her energy. She
came out flat-footed to start the seventh and began to pay the price as
the apparently indestructible Transam teed off on her mercilessly. A vicious
pounding to the body ended in a right uppercut to the jaw that sent
Paula to the canvas for a six count. She took another pounding at close
quarters before a hook to the body dropped her to her knees, this time
for a seven count. Transam Lottaporn threw her whole arsenal of dirty
tricks into a brutal body attack that ended the fight with Goodwyn on
her knees, unable to continue. Lottaporn showed the WEBA what she is all
about in this fight ... hard hitting and tough as nails, she does
whatever it takes to break her opponent's will to fight on! She
would be thrown out of any regular WEBA match, but at Wu's she could
be hard to take down!
Elysha Armstrong vs. Jennifer O'Casey
O'Casey wins bloody brawl in Round 9
Two B-leaguers, Elysha Armstrong and Jennifer O'Casey hammered each
other ferociously throughout a bloody battle that would also have been
stopped at any other venue but Wu's. "Irish
Jen" O'Casey is the hottest newcomer to the B League in ages, but
Armstrong had dealt Jen her only loss so far. O'Casey went to
Armstrong's body hard in the opening round. Elysha, who had always
looked fragile but clearly knows how to box, had gained weight
since their first fight, and appeared to be a little slower on
her feet. A punishing hook to the body dropped Armstrong for a short
count just before the bell. She fought back hard in the second but went
to her corner with blood running from a busted lip. The third round was
a war as both did their share of holding, mauling and body banging.
Jennifer backed Elysha up early in the fourth and Armstrong appeared to
be tiring. O'Casey started to dominate in the fifth, and an overhand
right sent Armstrong to her knees. Elysha took a long count and the
round ended with her resting groggily against the ropes, cut around
both eyes. Irish Jen looked cocky and ready to put the fight away, but
it wouldn't be that easy! Armstrong fought back hard in the sixth and
bloodied O'Casey's nose, then kept up the pressure in the
seventh. She decked Jennifer with a huge left, and O'Casey got up
wobbly and bloody. Armstrong kept pounding away ... but a ferocious
left out of nowhere suddenly collapsed her on the canvas. Elysha got to
her feet looking shaky and both fighters went to their corners in sorry
shape at the bell. Armstrong was covered in blood from her badly
cut mouth, O'Casey's left eye was closing and there was blood streaming
from her nose. Anywhere but Wu's, this fight would have been
stopped and both sent to the infirmary. But there's no mercy in the
Fighting Tigers club and the two warriors went out to face each other for
more. Neither had any reserves left,
but they both landed heavily to the other's head and returned to their
corners even bloodier. WEBA Prez EricVT was seen at
ringside berating Mr. Wu about the condition of the two fighters
and asking for the fight to be stopped. But it continued. The ninth
started on even terms but O'Casey got the upper hand, pounding
Armstrong's mouth mercilessly. When an enormous left sent Elysha to
the canvas, some ringsiders hoped she would stay down and save
herself from further punishment, but she struggled up and fought on ...
only to be decked again moments later. This time it was over. O'Casey
had got her revenge ... but at a price. Irish Jen was so battered that
she must also sit out a medical suspension before returning to B League
action.
The Lumbee Princess vs. The Massunutten Princess
Lumbee warrior Cyan Locklear wins it in Round 5!
Two Indian princesses stepped into the ring in Thailand to settle a
long-standing war of words! Massunutten Princess Pocoquina, a.k.a. Faye
Anders looked confident coming off a successful tournament that had sent her back to the
A League. She faced a dangerous rival in the Lumbee Princess ... Cyan Locklear.
Anders quickly drew blood from over Locklear's right eye, but the Lumbee
Princess struck back quickly, knocking the Massunutten warrior to the
canvas with a superb straight right. Anders was up quickly, but
Locklear tore into her ferociously against the ropes and decked her
again. Faye got up wobbly, and was soon eating more leather and
bleeding from her mouth. The Lumbee Princess began to fight dirty and
the Massunutten fighter was clearly angry. Anders began the second well
but some tremendous body shots that knocked the stuffing out of her.
Locklear was soon ripping shots into Anders while she tried to cover up.
The Massunutten Princess was dazed and wobbly at the bell, with the
Lumbee Princess looking confident. Faye absorbed a tremendous barrage
in a corner at the start of the third but eventually broke free and went
toe to toe with her rival. Both ate serious leather in a round that
left them bruised, bloody, and panting with effort. The fourth began
well for Anders as she decked Locklear for a short count with a sharp
left uppercut. But Cyan got up ready for more and Faye was soon in full
retreat taking heavy punishment. Anders tried to tie Locklear up, but
was sent to her knees by an overhand left. She got up slowly at the
"five" count but was nailed by the series of shots to the head that
ended the fight with the Lumbee Princess standing triumphantly over her
fallen Massunutten rival!
Carolyn Smith vs. Elena Litovka
Smith bludgeons Litovka to TKO in Round 6
Carolyn Smith bounced back from an unsuccessful shot at entering the A
League to take on speedy Russian featherweight Elena Litovka. It looked
like the blonde B leaguer had bitten off more than she could chew in the
opening round as Litovka used her fast hands and
footwork to dominate the action. Elena peppered Carolyn's face with
punches then dropped her for two counts with savage body punching.
The round ended with Smith looking stunned,
bleeding from her mouth and with her left eye already swelling up.
Litovka was out of breath from effort but looked superbly confident as
Smith got a serious talking-to from her trainer. Litovka kept up the
barrage in the second, but Smith stood her ground and traded with her.
The fight turned around when Carolyn trapped Elena in a corner and
parked her on the canvas with a well-placed straight left. Elena got up
quickly, but was pummelled against the corner pads and dropped for a
longer count by a fired-up Smith. Litovka struggled to her feet, and
Carolyn Smith threw the book at her ... low blows, an elbow, holding
and hitting, pure intimidation that sent the Russian back to her
corner dazed and shaken up, bleeding from her nose. The third round was
a war as they both unloaded on each other. Carolyn got the better of it
at first but was dropped for a short count by a one-two to the body.
Elena ripped through Carolyn's defense after this and put her on the
canvas again, this time for an eight count, but the bell saved Smith
from disaster. The start of the fourth was all Litovka as Smith went
into a shell, but Carolyn scored with a good left to Elena's nose midway
through the round and controlled the late going. Neither boxer appeared
to want to fight in the fifth, a round that saw very little action and
made the crowd restive. It was a different story in the sixth, as
Carolyn tagged Elena with a swinging left early in the round, roughed
her up in the clinches that followed, then hammered her to the canvas.
Litovka got up bloodied and wobbly, and was a sitting duck for
everything that Smith threw for the rest of the round. She stayed on
her feet somehow, but went to her corner bleeding heavily from her nose
and mouth and with both eyes closing up. Even at Wu's, fights have to
be stopped if a boxer can't see properly, so this one ended by TKO.
This wasn't an impressive win for Smith, who had been badly outboxed by
Litovka until she threw in enough dirty tricks to injure the Russian,
who was still standing defiantly when it was stopped!
Lori Glick vs. Chi-Chi Venezia
Glick gets revenge with win in Round 4
An old B-League score was settled as the Doctor of Clobber, Lori Glick,
climbed into the ring to take on Chi-Chi "No Mercy" Venezia. Venezia
had handed Glick one of her worst losses before the Atlanta chiropractor
made it into the A League. Chi-Chi was smarting from a disastrous end
to the last A-B tourney, where she started with back-to-back
knockout wins but ended with a disappointing showing and a DQ loss to
Krissy Roberts that left her in the B-League. The staredown between
these two was ferocious and they soon went at it hammer and tongs
in a hard-charging opening round. Both ate full-force shots that left
them groggy against the ropes but recovered and went to their corners
fired up and ready for more. Chi-Chi set the pace at the start of the
second, but Lori got her backing up and battered her in a corner.
Chi-Chi was nicked under her left eye, and Lori opened the cut wide with
her elbow! Chi-Chi was distracted by the injury and continued to take
punishment. Lori decked her with a huge left to the jaw, and Chi-Chi
took a long count before getting back to her feet. The round ended with
Glick firmly in charge and Venezia spattered with blood streaming from
an ugly gash under her left eye. Chi-Chi was in big trouble, as the cut
was deep and distracting her, and was also a tempting target for Glick,
who continued to work on it mercilessly. Lori was getting cocky,
taunting Chi-Chi with her gloves down, and acting like the fight was
already over!
Venezia thought differently, and managed a good rally that had Glick
in trouble. Several booming shots to the face shook Lori up
and Venezia followed with an elbow smash of her own. Glick went
to her corner bleeding heavily from her mouth but still looking confident
as Venezia was now a mess with one eye closing and covered in her own
blood. Chi-Chi was in no mood to quit, though, and started the fourth
with a huge effort that backed Lori into a corner. A couple of
vicious body shots sent Lori to her knees for a nine count, and gave
Venezia a chance to finish her off. Lori tied Chi-Chi up, then
erupted with a tremendous barrage, including a backfist to the mouth
that sent blood flying as Chi-Chi was spun around! They continued to
go toe-to-toe, and one big punch by either might have ended it .... but
Lori was the one who found the mark. A huge hook to Chi-Chi's chin
flattened her again, and this time Venezia could not get her legs to
do her bidding when she tried to struggle back to her feet. Glick
had avenged her earlier loss in dramatic style!
Rose Mora vs. Claire Freeman
Mora wins barn-burner in Round 6
Two big women with a strong dislike for each other met in Pattaya as the
fiery Italian, Lady Rose Mora, faced Crazy Claire Freeman from
Connecticut. Rose was coming off a strong showing in the A-B tournament
in which she had punched her way out of any danger of a trip to the B
League. Claire was looking for someone to punch out after suffering a
disastrous loss to "Hellcat" Heather Corrigan. Rose looked hungrier
from the start and took the fight to Claire, mixing her punches well.
Freeman was driven into the ropes, and beaten to her knees by a blizzard
of leather from the "Assassin". Claire got up angry, took a backfist in
the face, thumbed Rose in her right eye ... and the war was on! Claire
hammered Rose in a corner mid-way through a hard-fought second round but
the Italian was firing back well at the bell. Rose's right eye was
closing and she was bleeding from the mouth. Both landed some solid
punches in the third but neither got the upper hand for long until the
fourth, when Claire had Rose in big trouble against the ropes and whaled
away with everything she had. Rose took a thorough pounding before a
ferocious uppercut sent her down for an eight count. She got up
fighting mad, went right at Claire ... and decked her with a one-two to
the head! Claire took an eight count, and held on until the bell. This
was anybody's fight, and they went right back at it in the fifth.
Claire backed Rose into the ropes again and decked her with a right to
the jaw. Rose got up wobbly and was hammered for the rest of the round
but stayed on her feet. Claire looked to repeat the trick in the sixth
but instead was tagged by an uppercut that put her down for eight. Rose
made no mistake when the action resumed, and quickly finished it off
with a flurry of punches to Claire's head. This was a fight that could
have gone either way as both girls clearly have enough dynamite in their
fists to end a fight in a hurry when the chance comes their way.
Angie Page vs. Ricki Evans
Evans retires Page with sixth-round KO
Angie Page has struggled since she entered the WEBA, showing
flashes of boxing skill and great determination, but somehow
rarely able to put a whole fight together. Coming back for more
week after week, moving from manager to manager, Angie was finally
about to call it quits when she challenged Ricki Evans to this fight
at Wu's. We never quite figured out why Angie did this, as it
looked a lead pipe cinch to boost Ricki's record. Evans has been
steadily improving, a capable, aggressive fighter with some KO power,
pretty clearly out of Angie's league. Maybe Angie just wanted a
trip to Thailand? In any case, she was in trouble from the opening
bell and ended the first round looking shaky, with a nasty cut over her
right eye. Angie put a good round together in the second, catching
Ricki with a solid uppercut early on and keeping good pressure on the
rest of the way. Ricki re-established herself with some solid shots
to Angie's head early in the third, and threw in a thumb to Angie's
injured eye just to show she meant business. Angie made a charge at
the start of the fourth but couldn't keep the pace up for the whole
round. Evans continued working on Angie's right eye which was
closing up by the end of the round. It was downhill from there as
Ricki worked from Angie's blind side and seemed determined to punish
her before finishing the fight off. Page was tired and battered
while Evans still looked fresh and cocky. Angie made another run
at her tormentor at the start of the sixth but walked into a one-two
to the face followed by an enormous right to the jaw that put her
out for the count. The only question left when it was all over was
"why"? (Angie has now retired from boxing and WEBA wishes her well.)
