Sergei's autograph
Sergei Samsonov's hands are the tools that give him the ability to carve miracles on the ice. His stickwork is amazing. The short, crisp movements of his stick controlling the puck make his movements efficient and graceful. All this done by the hands that signed this simple autograph.

Getting aquainted with Sergei
Sergei's short, solid body is very strong and powerful, allowing him to absorb crunching body checks and stinging blows. It also allows him to muscle through defensemen like an ancient Scandinavian berserker. His typical Russian face, broad, with slightly delicate lines and curves, is capable of showing intense emotions, and also capable of showing the cold, stony gaze of a Red Army officer.
Sergei's Equipment
Despite Sergei's broad shoulders and dense body, his feet are relitively small, keeping with and reminding us of his height. His equipment type changes often, but no matter what type of stick, helmet, or skates he has, Sergei's magic on the ice is not changed by the brand of equipment he uses.
Sergei's Favorites
Sergei Samsonov: the next Russian superstar. Don't forget that he is known by friends and teammates as Sammy, the nineteen year old rookie. He likes many of the things most of us do, including movies, playing golf, and listening to music. Don't forget that under those sometimes icy blue eyes, there is a young man who enjoys life.
Sergei's Comments
Sergei's voice, tinged with a heavy Russian accent, is quiet and gentle. He often pauses, no doubt searching his Russian brain for an English word equivalent. His English is very good; when he came to the U.S. in July of '96, he could barely say 'hello, how are you?' After the Turner Cup Championships in June of '97, Sergei could converse easily in English and in slang. (I think his favorite slang was 'see ya'!) But listen for that golden voice. Sergei often has important or interesting things to say. If not, he watches you. And you see the intelligence lurking behind his steady gaze.
