Running Convertor

[Your browser is not Java-enabled]

Here is a java applet which enables you to calculate your running pace and projected time over a specified distance. Imperial and metric units are supported.

The top four entries indicate speed. You may enter your speed in any one of the four boxes and the other three will be automatically updated. For example if you enter your speed as 8 mph the equivalent time per mile, kph and time per kilometer entries will appear.

The next two items allow you to either lock the speed or recalculate it from the next four items.

If "Lock Speed" is selected and you enter a running distance, the time required for that distance at that speed will appear. If you enter a time, the distance you will cover at that speed will appear.

For example, let us say that you want to know how long it will take to run 10K at 7 minute mile pace. Select "Lock speed" and input 7:00 as your mile time. Then enter 10 as Running distance (kilometres). The value 43:29.76 appears in the Running time.

If "Recalculate Speed" is selected the bottom four entries allow you to enter a running distance and a running time and from this your speed will be calculated and displayed in the upper four boxes.

For example, let us say you want to run a marathon (26 miles 385 yards) in three and a half hours. Select "Recalculate speed" and input your running distance as 26:385 in the miles & yards box and input your running time as 3:30:00. You will see that the required average speed is 7.491 mph which corresponds to 8:00.57 per mile. This can alternatively be expressed as 12.056 kph or 4:58.61 per kilometre.
